Preparing the Wireless Keyboard for Use
To prepare your keyboard for use, you will need to install the two AAA batteries that came with your keyboard.
To Install the Batteries:
Turn your wireless keyboard over and release the battery compartment cover by compressing the tab. Remove the cover, and set it aside. Insert the batteries in the compartment, making sure that the “+” on the batteries corresponds with the “+” mark in the compartment. Replace the cover.

• The Fujitsu Wireless Keyboard uses a nonstandard transfer protocol. Under normal circumstances, only the computer with which the keyboard is oriented will recognize the infrared (IR) signal, but you should assign an Identification Code to the keyboard as a precaution. (See “Wireless Keyboard Identification Codes” on page 4.)
• Be careful when using any other IR devices—such as TV remote controls—in the vicinity of your system while using your wireless keyboard. Your system could have difficulty distinguishing the signals.
Range of Operation:
Your wireless keyboard communicates with the infrared (IR) port on the front of your system. The location of the IR port will vary, depending upon your system configuration. In order to communicate effectively with your computer, your
3
keyboard should be kept within the area in which the signals from the keyboard can be received by your computer. This area is within approximately 3 feet from the port. The effective distance will vary, and is subject to environment, type of use, and other factors.
Wireless Keyboard Identification Codes
Overview of Identification Codes
When multiple keyboards and computers are used in a small area, it may be necessary to assign an individual identification code to each keyboard/computer pair. Assigning identification codes prevents interference or “cross-talk” between closely situated keyboards and systems
The identification code is not designed as a security feature; it is strictly intended to pre-
vent interference between keyboards and computers in proximity to each other.
.
The identification code assigned to a keyboard/computer pair is temporary. The code is cancelled whenever the computer is turned off, suspended, or reset.
The system will recognize the code of the first keyboard with which it is used after it returns to an active state. Once a new code is recognized, only the coded keyboard will work with the computer, but multiple keyboards with the same identification code can be used with the same computer.
For example, if two keyboards (A and B) are within infrared range of the computer, either can be used when the system is initially reset or suspended. If the identification code for keyboard A is set to “1” and it is used with the computer
4
first, the computer will recognize “1” as the code. Keyboard B would be disabled unless you enter “1” as its code. If you assign keyboard A the identification code “1” and keyboard B the identification code “2”, then use keyboard B first, the computer will only recognize the keyboard B identification code “2”.
If you remove the batteries from the keyboard and install new batteries (or allow the keyboard capacitor to discharge for at least a minute before reinstalling the old batteries), the code for the keyboard will reset to the default of “7”. At that point, the computer will initially only respond if:
The computer was responding to code “7” before the batteries were removed, or,
The keyboard is reset to the code to which the computer was responding before the batteries were removed.
Entering an Identification Code
To enter an identification code for your keyboard, perform
the following step:
In the following step, press and hold down the keys in the same order as they appear, and leave them depressed until after the code is entered.
Press [Fn]+[Left Alt]+[Left Shift]+[ID Code]. Use a single number for the ID Code, between 0 and 7.
There is no on-screen indication that the code has been entered.
5
Changing an Identification Code
Once the code has been set, as detailed in “Entering an Identification Code” on page 5, it can be changed by following the same procedure and substituting a different ID code.
Adjusting the keyboard position
On the bottom of the keyboard, you will find two adjustable feet that raise the rear portion of the keyboard when they are swiveled open. This allows you to adjust the keyboard to a comfortable position.
To change the resting position of the keyboard, swivel the feet away from the bottom of the keyboard. (Figure 4)

Caring for your keyboard
Your wireless keyboard is a durable but sensitive electronic device.
If you accidentally spill liquid on your keyboard, position it so that the liquid can run out, then let it dry out for 24 hours, or longer, as required.
Failure to properly eliminate the liquid from the keyboard can result in internal short circuit and permanent damage to the keyboard.
Do not use your keyboard in a wet environment (near a bathtub, swimming pool).
Avoid exposure to sand, dust and other environmental hazards.
Do not put heavy or sharp objects on the keyboard.
Clean your keyboard with a damp lint-free cloth.
Storing your keyboard
If storing your keyboard for a month or longer, remove and store the batteries.
Store your keyboard and batteries separately. If you store your keyboard with batteries installed, the batteries will discharge, and battery life will be reduced. In addition, a faulty battery might damage your keyboard.
