Installation in a Rack
The rack rail needs to be attached to the rack and the controller enclosure or the drive enclosure needs to
be installed.

●A drive enclosure must be installed above a controller enclosure.
●The center of gravity must be taken into consideration to prevent a rack from toppling over.
The controller enclosure and the drive enclosure should generally be installed from bottom to top to
lower the center of gravity and to ensure the safe use of racks.
Adjust the rack rail size to t the rack.

Insert the M5 screws in the 1st and 3rd holes on the front and rear rack pillars above the base lines to
fasten the rack rails.

Various cables need to be connected to the rear of the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system.

●To help with cable management and prevent incorrect connection, attach labels to the cables and
make a note of connection origins and destinations.
●This step describes dual controller type as an example. Note that there is only controller 0 (CM#0) for
single controller type.
The cables should never be bent, twisted or pulled.

Basic Setup
Use ETERNUS Web GUI to perform a basic setup of the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system.
ETERNUS DX Disk Storage System and PC Terminal Connection
Connect a PC terminal to the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system.
Connect the PC terminal to the MNT port of Controller 0 (CM#0) on the controller enclosure directly with the
LAN cable (for operation management).

Initial Setup
Perform the settings that are required before operation of the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system on the
[Initial Setup] screen.
The [Initial Setup] screen appears by clicking the [Initial Setup] menu on the [Easy Setup] tab.
Perform the following settings according to the wizard
screen:

Set Date and Time

Set Storage System Name

Change Password

Set FC / iSCSI / SAS Port Parameters
●
Setup Network Environment
After the settings are complete, close the Web browser and then remove the LAN cable (for operation
management) from the PC terminal. Connect LAN cables (for operation management) to the customer
network from the MNT ports on both controller 0 and controller 1.
Then start the web browser from the PC terminal that is connected to the network and log on to ETERNUS
Web GUI again with the IP address that is set in "Set Network Environment".

Configuration Wizard
Perform the necessary settings to operate the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system using the Conguration
Wizard.
The [Conguration Wizard] screen appears by clicking the [Conguration Wizard] button on the [Easy Setup]
tab.
Perform the following settings according to the wizard
screen:

Register hot spares in case regular disks fail.
The [Assign Hot Spare] screen appears by clicking [Assign Hot Spare] under the [RAID Group Management]
menu on the [Volume Settings] tab.

Monitoring Setup
Perform the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system monitoring setup if required.

Notication of the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system problems as they occur is possible if the event
notication method and level have been set.
●
If remote support is required, the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system needs to be set to notify the remote
support center of failures.
Remote support allows prompt detection and resolution of trouble.

Perform the settings required to connect to the server and install the required drivers. Perform the settings
required for network devices connecting the server and the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system.
After the server connection setup, conrm that the volumes in the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system can
be recognized by the server.
All necessary settings are complete, and the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system is now ready for normal
operation.

Operation and Maintenance
Status check
The status of the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system should be regularly monitored by checking the LEDs and using
ETERNUS Web GUI.
Data backup
Important data should be regularly backed up to a tape drive or similar device as a precaution against system failures.
Maintenance support period
The standard maintenance support period for ETERNUS DX Disk storage system is ve years from the date of purchase,
or is dened in your service level agreement (SLA). Contact your sales representative for details if you prefer to extend
the period.
