2. INSTALLATI ON AND CONN EC TIONS
Please unpack the Scanner carefull y , and check the contents against the checklist. If any items are missing or damaged, please contact your authorized local dealer immediately.
Precautions
Keep the Scanner out of d i r e ct sunl i g ht. D irect exposure to the sun or ex cessive
heat may cause damage to the unit.
Do not install the Scanner in a humid or dusty place. Be sure to use the proper AC pow er sour ce . Place the Scanner securely on an even, flat surface. Tilted or uneven surfaces may
cause mechanical or paper-feeding problems.
Retain the Scanner box and packing materials for shipping purposes.
2.1 Shipping Bracket
The Scanner has a br a ck et that locks the carrie r mecha ni sm f or tr an sporta ti on purposes. Thi s b r ack et must b e put i nto the use position befor e using the Scanner.
If the power i s tur ne d on b efore the brack et ha s b ee n r emove d the PAPER JAM lig ht will turn on. Before proceeding, turn the power off, disconnect all cables and follow the instructions be l ow to r emove the shi pping bracke t.
2.1.1 Removing the Ship p i n g Bracket ( refer to figures 2-1 and 2- 2)

vii). Carefull y pl a ce the Scanne r back into its norm al position.
2.2 SCSI Int erfa ce D e v i ce ID
When you have several d evi ce s on a SCSI chai n, you may need to adj ust the SCSI ID selector se tti ng l ocate d on the back of the Scanner. This setting a ssi g ns a specific "device ID" to the Scanner. If the assignment conflicts with an existing SCSI device, please select a new I D. ( See Fi g ure 2- 3)
Note: The f actor y se tti ng f or Sca nner is ID 6. U sually, ID 0 is assig ne d to an i nte r na l
hard disk drive, and ID 7, to SCSI adapter or host. ID 8 and 9 are not in actual use.
Using a suita b l e tool , turn the sele ctor sw i tch unti l the arrow poi n ts to the desired I D number.

3. MAINTENANCE
3.1 Cleaning the ADF
Your Scanner is designed to be maintenance free. However, it still needs to be cleaned occasional l y to ensur e opti mum i mag e qual i ty and per f or mance.
From time to time the pad assembly and feeding rollers may become contaminated with ink, toner particles or paper dust. In this case the scanner may not feed documents smoothly or sever a l d ocuments ma y f ee d at once. If this occur s pl e ase f ol l ow the cl ea ni ng pr ocedures to return y our Scanner to its original state.
The cleaning procedures (Figure 3-1)
i). Moisten a cotton swab with isoprophy l al cohol (95%). (Cl eaner k i ts
are available from Fujitsu.)
ii). Open the ADF unit by de pre ssi ng the b utton c in front of the AD F
unit, carefully open the AD F to the left d. Wipe the feeding rollers by moving the swab f r om si de to side. Rota te the r ol lers forw ar d with your finger and repeat the above cleaning procedures until the rollers are clean. Be car ef ul not to snag or d amag e the pick springs.
iii). Wipe the pad in the d i r ection from top to bottom. B e ca r ef ul not to
hook the pick springs.
iv). Close the ADF unit. Your Scanner is now ready for use.
1) Documents do not feed smoothl y or ea si l y ;
2) Several documents feed at one time.

4. TROUBLESHOOTING
The Scanner will automatically perform a simple self-test each time it is turned on. This will help spot major system errors in the Scanner itself.
When the test is initiated, the READY LED is flashing. When the test is completed, if no error occur, the READY LED is steadily on.
If you have probl ems w i th the oper ati on of your Scanne r, please check the followi ng tr oub leshooting hints.
4.1 Question and Answer
Question: The LED indicates that the Scanner is ready, but the Scanner
does not respond to the scan comma nd f or m the host compute r .
Answer: a) Please check the signal cable is f i rml y seated ,
and invoke the scan command again. If there is still no response, please reset the Scanne r b y tur ni ng i t of f a nd the n on ag a i n, and reboot your host computer a s w ell.
b) Check if the driver is correctly installed. You can use the
DIAG.E XE f ile in “F uj itsu Driver Ki t” to check this out.
c) Try to select another por t memory .
Question: Paper becomes jammed during scanni ng . Answer: a) Open the ADF unit.
b) Pull out the jammed paper carefully.
c) Close the AD F unit.
Question: More than one sheet of paper were fed into the Scanne r. Answer: a) Open ADF unit.
b) Remove the multi-fed sheets of paper.
c) Close the AD F unit.
d) Flatten the cor ner s a nd e d g es; loosen the paper
before reloading it in the paper guide.
e) Check the feeding roller condition and do the cleaning if
necessary. (See Chapter 3)
4-1
Question: Paper becomes skewed in the Scanner. Answer: a) Check the feeding roller condition; do the cleaning if
necessary. (See Section 3.1)
b) Use the paper guide when feeding the paper.
Question: When I power on the Scanner, it makes noises and will not
stand ready.
Answer: There are two possibilities:
a) You forgot to remove the shipping retai ne r f r om the Sca nner .
Please remove the shipping r etai ner f i rst.
b) You did not place the Scanner on a flat desktop surface.
This may cause the Sca nner to f uncti on improperly .
Question: When I power on the Scanner, the l a mp d oes not light. Answer: The possibilities are as follows:
a) The la mp i s out of or der. In tha t case , conta ct y our
authorized l ocal dealer to chang e the lamp. The l i f e ti me of the
lamp is about 5000 hours.
b) The fuse on main board of the Scanner is burned. Check the
main board of the Scanner. If the fuse is burned, put in a new
fuse that is 250V/2A.
c) If the fuse burns again after the changing, it means the
invertor of the l a mp i s burned. Contac t your a uthor i z e d l oca l
dealer to replace the i nve r tor .
Question: Getting image from the Scanne r i s not a pr ob lem, but whe n
scanning, the Scanner or system will often crash.
Answer: Please check
a) If the cable is firmly seated;
b) Only tw o SCSI ter minators can be conne cted to your SCSI daisy
chain. One is at the end of the SCSI devi ce , a nother i s a l r e ad y i n
your host adapter.
Question: While scanning, the Scanner often make s noises, or i t scans
back and forth.
Answer: Please choose lower speed from the TWAIN user interface for
low speed PC.
4-2
Question: The scanned image a l w a ys comes out to b e too d a r k . Answer: a) Use your application to modify the Gamma setting to 2.2 and
1.8 for your pr inter and moni tor r espe cti vely.
b) Use Brightness setting f r om the TWAIN user i n ter f a ce to g et
a brighter image.
Question: The Scanner works well otherwise, but for the line art, the lines
of which seem much thi ck er tha n those of the or i g i na l .
Answer: Use the Brightness or T hr e shol d se tti ng to adjust the line ar t
image.
