Installation

Power So urces : This video product should be operated only from the type of power so urce indicated on the mar king label. If you are not sure of the ty pe of power supply to your home, consult your appliance dealer or local power company. For video produc ts intended to operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the oper ating instructions.

Grounding or Polarization: This video produc t is equipp ed with a po larized alternating-current line plug (a plug having one b lade wider than th e other). This plug will  t into the power out let only one way. This is a safet y feature. If you are unabl e to insert t he plug fully into the outl et, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to  t, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpos e of the polarized pl ug.

equipped with a 3-wire grounding-type plug, a plug h aving a third ( grounding) pin. This plug will only  t into a grounding-t ype powe r outlet. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug into the ou tlet, contact your el ectrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defea t the safety purp ose of the grounding-type plug.

Overloading: Do not overlo ad wall outlets and extension co rds as this can re sult in a risk of  re or elec tric shock.

Ventil ation: Sl ots and op enings in the cabinet are p rovided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the video pro duct and to protect i t from overheating, and these openin gs must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing t he video p roduct o n a bed, sofa, ru g, or other similar sur face. This vide o produc t should not be plac ed in a bui lt-in in stallat ion such as a bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation is provided or the manufacturer’s instruc tions have been adh ered to. This video product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register.

Power-Cord Protection: Power-Supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items place d upon or against them , paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience recept acles, an d the point where they exit from the appliance.

Accessories: D o not place th is video produc t on an unstable car t, stand , tripod, bracket, or table. The video product may fall, causing s erious injury to a child or adult, and ser ious damag e to the applia nce. Use only w ith a car t, stand, tripod, bracket, or table recommended by t he manufa cturer, or so ld with the vi deo produ ct. Any mo unting of the appliance should follow the manufac turer’s inst ructions , and should use a mounting accessory recommended by the manufacturer.

An appliance and cart combination should be moved with care. Q uick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the applia nce and car t combination to overturn.

Antennas

Outdo or Antenna Gro unding: If an o utside antenna or cab le system is connecte d to the video product, be sure the antenna or cable sys tem is grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Secti on 810 of the National Electr ical Code, ANSI/N FPA No. 70, provides

information with respect to proper grounding o f the mast an d suppor ting structure, grou nding of th e lead-in wire to an antennadischarge unit, size of groundin g conductors, loc ation of antenna-discharge un it, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for th e grounding elect rode.

Power Lin es: An outside a ntenna system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead p ower lines o r other ele ctric light or powe r circuits , or where it c an fall into such p ower lines o r circuits . When installing an outside antenna system, extreme care should be taken to keep from to uching such power l ines or circuits as contact wi th them might be fatal.

If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen i nto the video produc t. If the vide o produc t has been expose d to rain or water. If the video product has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged.

If the video product does not operate normally b e following the ope rating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the oper ating instructions as an improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will of ten require extensive work by a quali ed technician to res tore the video pro duct to its normal o peration. Do not use t he batter y except a s speci ed. Load the bat tery as aligned wi th the indicator.

Any of these ac tions can cause the b attery to burst or l eak and cause  re o r injury as a result.

Use only t he batte ry or AC powe r adapter s speci  ed for u se with th is camer a. Do not use v oltages oth er than the p ower supp ly volta ge shown.

If the bat tery leak s and  ui d gets in cont act with your e yes, skin or clo thing. Flus h the affecte d area with c lean water a nd seek medi cal atten tion or cal l an emerge ncy numb er right away.

Do not use t he charg er to charg e batter ies other t han those s peci ed h ere.

The Ni-M H batter y charger is de signed for Fuj i lm HR -AA Ni- MH batteri es. Using the charger to charge conventional batteries or other types of rechargeable batteries can ca use the battery to le ak  uid, over heat or burst.

When carrying the battery, install it in a digital camera or keep it in the hard case. When storin g the batter y, keep it in the ha rd case. When d iscardi ng, cover the bat tery term inals with insulation tape.

Contact wi th other meta llic objec ts or bat tery could c ause the bat tery to igni te or burst.

Keep Memo ry Card s out of the re ach of sma ll child ren. Because M emory Ca rds are small, the y can be swal lowed by chil dren. Be sure to store Memor y Cards out of th e reach of small childre n. If a child swall ows a Memory Card, seek me dical attention or c all an emergency numb er.

Do not move t he camera whil e the AC power adap ter is still con nected. Do not p ull on the connec tion cor d to discon nect the AC p ower adapt er.

This can dama ge the power cord or cabl es and cause a  re or electric sh ock.

Do not use t he AC power adapte r when the plug is d amaged or the pl ug socket conn ection is loose.

This could cau se a  re or ele ctric shock.

Do not cove r or wrap the c amera or t he AC power ad apter in a cl oth or blan ket. This can caus e heat to build up and distor t the casing or caus e a  re.

When you a re cleanin g the camer a or you do not pl an to use the ca mera for an e xtended p eriod, re move the bat tery an d disconn ect and un plug the AC p ower adapt er.

Failure to do so can ca use a  re or ele ctric shock .

When cha rging en ds, unplu g the char ger from t he power soc ket. Leaving the cha rger plugged into the po wer socket can cause a  re.

Using a  as h too clos e to a person ’s eyes may temp oraril y a ect t he eyesig ht. Take particula r care when photogra phing infants and yo ung children.

When an xD-Picture Card is removed, the card could come out of the slot too quickly. Use your  nger t o hold it and g ently re lease the c ard.

The Bat tery and Pow er Supply

The following describes the proper use of the bat tery and h ow to prolon g its life. Incor rect use c an shorten batter y life or cause leakage, overheating,  re, or explosion.

The bat tery is not charged at sh ipment. Charge the battery before use. Keep the batte ry in its case whe n not in use.

Notes on t he Batter y

The bat tery gra dually los es its charge when not in us e. Charge the b atter y one or two days before use.

Batter y life can be extend ed by turning the camera o when not in use.

Battery capacity decreases at low temperature s; a depleted batter y may not function at when col d. Keep a fu lly charged spare batter y in a warm place and exchange as necessary, or keep the batter y in your po cket or othe r warm place and ins ert it in t he camera only when shooting. Do not place the batter y i n di rec t co nta ct w it h ha nd w arm ers or other heating devices.

Charg ing the Bat tery

Charge the battery in the supplied battery charger. Charging times will increase at ambient temp eratures b elow +10 °C (+50 °F) o r above +35 ° C (+95 °F ). Do not attempt to charge the battery at temperatures above 4 0 °C (+104 ° F); at temperatu res below 0 °C (+32 °F), the batter y will not charge.

Do not attempt to recharge a fully charged battery. The batter y does n ot however need to be fully discharged before charging.

The bat tery may be warm to the tou ch immediately after charging or use. This is normal.

Battery Life

At normal temp eratures , the bat tery can be recharged about 300 times. A noticeable decrease in the length of time the bat tery w ill hold a cha rge indicates that i t has reached the end o f its servi ce life and should be rep laced.

Storage

Performance may be im paired if t he batter y is left unused for e xtende d periods whe n fully charged. Run th e battery  at before stor ing it.

If the camera will not b e used for an extended period, remove the battery and store it in a dry place with an ambient temperature of from +15 °C to +25 °C (+59 °F to +77 °F). Do not store in locations exposed to extremes of temperature.

Cauti ons: Handl ing the Bat tery

• Do not transport or store with metal objects such as necklaces or hairpins.

• Do not ex pose to  ame or hea t.

• Do not dis assemble or modif y.

• Use with de signated chargers on ly.

• Dispo se of used batte ries promptly.

• Do not drop or subject to strong physical shocks.

• Do not ex pose to water.

• Keep the ter minals clean.

• The battery and camera bod y may become wa rm to the touch a fter extended use. T his is normal.

AC Adapters (Available Separately)

Use only FUJIFIL M AC adapters de signated for use with this cam era. Other adapters cou ld damage the camera .

• T he AC adapter is for ind oor use only.

• Be sure the DC plug is securely connected to t he camera.

• Turn the camera o before disconnectin g the adapter. Disconnec t the adapter by th e plug, not the cable.

• Do not use w ith other devices.

• Do not dis assemble.

• Do not exp ose to high heat and humidity.

• Do not subje ct to stro ng physic al shocks.

• The AC adapter may hum or be come hot to the touch during use. T his is normal.

• I f the AC adapter causes r adio interference, reorient or rel ocate the receiving antenna.

Using t he Camera

To ensure that images are recorded correct ly, do not subje ct the ca mera to impa ct or phy sical sho cks whi le images are being re corded.

Electrical Interference

This cam era may interfere w ith hospital or aviation equipment. Consult with hospital or airline sta before using the camera in a h ospital or on an aircraf t.

Liquid Crystal

In the event that the monitor is damaged, care should be ta ken to avoid contact with liquid crystal. Take the urgent action indicated should any of the follow ing situations aris e:

• If liq uid crys tal comes i n contac t with your skin, clean the area with a cloth an d then wash thoroughly with soap and running water.

• If l iqui d cr yst al en ters your eyes ,  ush th e a ected eye with clean w ater for at least 15 minutes and t hen seek medical assistance.

• If liquid cr ysta l is swal lowed, r inse your mouth thoroughly with water. Drink large quantities of water and induce vomiting, then seek medical assistance.

Take Te st Sh ots

Before taking photographs on important occasions (such as at weddings or before taking the c amera on a t rip), take a test sho t and view th e result in the monitor to ensure that the camera is functioning normally. FUJIFILM Corporation can n ot accept liability for damag es o r los t pr o t s inc ur red a s a r esu lt of product malfunction.

The Touch Panel Display

The touch panel display can be operated by tapping the display or gliding the stylus or a  nger over the panel. The panel responds to pressure; use a  rm touch, but do NOT use excessive force.

Lightly tap the display to adjust settings or select pictures or menu options.

Scroll

Glide lightly over the display to scroll through pictures during playback.

3 Cautions

To avoid damaging the monitor and touch panel display, observe the following precautions:

• Do not a x plastic covers, stickers, or other objects to the panel.

• Use only your  ngers to operate the panel. Do not use excessive force.

• Do not sit on the camera (by, for example, leaving it in a back pocket when sitting down), place it under heavy objects, or attempt to force it into a small space (such as a suitcase that is already full).

• Do not attach objects to the camera strap that might place pressure on the monitor.

• Unplug the charger when it is not in use.

• Remove dirt from the battery terminals with a clean, dry cloth. Failure to observe this precaution could prevent the battery from charging.

Inserting the Battery

After charging the battery, insert it in the camera as described below.

Open the battery-chamber cover.

Lightly press the center of the battery-chamber cover and open it as shown.

Be sure the camera is o before opening the battery-chamber cover.

• Do not open the battery-chamber cover when the camera is on. Failure to observe this precaution could result in damage to image  les or memory cards.

• Do not use excessive force when handling the battery-chamber cover.

Align the orange stripe on the battery with the orange battery latch and slide the battery into the camera, keeping the battery latch pressed to one side. Con rm that the battery is securely latched.

side down or backwards. The battery will slide in easily in the correct orientation.

Turn the camera o before removing the battery.

• Do not short the battery terminals. The battery could overheat.

• Read the cautions on page v.

• Use only battery chargers designated for use with the battery. Failure to observe this precaution could result in product malfunction.

• Do not remove the labels from the battery or attempt to split or peel the outer casing.

• The battery gradually loses its charge when not in use. Charge the battery one or two days before use.

2 Tips: Using an AC Power Adapter

• The camera can be powered by an optional AC power adapter and DC coupler (sold separately). See the manuals provided with the AC power adapter and DC coupler for details.

• If the camera is powered by an AC power adapter, demo mode instructions will be displayed when the camera is turned on. Selecting demo mode starts a slide show; to cancel, press the shutter button.

Inserting a Memory Card

Write-protect switch

Although the camera can store pictures in internal memory, optional SD memory cards (sold separately) can be used to store additional pictures.

When no memory card is inserted, a appears in the monitor and internal memory is used for recording and playback. Note that because camera malfunction could cause internal memory to become corrupted, the pictures in internal memory should periodically be transferred to a computer and saved on the computer hard disk or on removable media such as CDs or DVDs. The pictures in internal memory can also be copied to a memory card (see page 55). To prevent internal memory from becoming full, be sure to delete pictures when they are no longer needed.

When a memory card is inserted as described below, the card will be used for recording and playback.

Compatible Memory Cards

FUJIFILM and SanDisk SD and SDHC memory cards have been approved for use in the camera. A complete list of approved memory cards is available at http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/

index.html. Operation is not guaranteed with other cards. The camera can not be used with xD-Picture Cards or MultiMediaCard (MMC) devices.

3 Caution

SD memory cards can be locked, making it impossible to format the card or to record or delete images. Before inserting an SD memory card, slide the write-protect switch to the unlocked position.

Holding the memory card in the orientation shown at right, slide it in until it clicks into place at the back of the slot.

Be sure card is in correct orientation; do not insert at an angle or use force. If the memory card is not correctly inserted, pictures will be recorded to internal memory.

• Memory cards may be warm to the touch after being removed from the camera. This is normal and does not indicate a malfunction.

• Do not turn the camera o or remove the memory card while the memory card is being formatted or data are being recorded to or deleted fro m the card. Failure to observe this precaution could damage the card.

• Format SD memory cards before  rst use, and be sure to reformat all memory cards after using them in a computer or other device. For more information on formatting memory cards, see page 86.

• Memory cards are small and can be swallowed; keep out of reach of children. If a child swallows a memory card, seek medical assistance immediately.

• miniSD or microSD adapters that are larger or smaller than the standard dimensions of an SD card may not eject normally; if the card does not eject, take the camera to an authorized service representative. Do not forcibly remove the card.

• Do not a x labels to memory cards. Peeling labels can cause camera malfunction.

• Movie recording may be interrupted with some types of SD memory card. Use a card with a class 4 write speed (4 MB/s) or better when shooting HD movies.

• The data in internal memory may be erased or corrupted when the camera is repaired. Please note that the repairer will be able to view pictures in internal memory.

• Formatting a memory card or internal memory in the camera creates a folder in which pictures are stored. Do not rename or delete this folder or use a computer or other device to edit, delete, or rename image  les. Always use the camera to delete pictures from memory cards and internal memory; before editing or renaming  les, copy them to a computer and edit or rename the copies, not the originals.

2 Tip: The Camera Clock

If the battery is removed for an extended period, the camera clock will be reset and the language-selection dialog will be displayed when the camera is turned on. If the battery is left in the camera or an optional AC power adapter connected for about a day, the battery can be removed for about a week without resetting the clock, language selection, shooting mode, or power management options.
