FRONIUS PRIMO SNAPINVERTER INSTALLATION BEST PRACTICES CHECKLIST
Fronius USA Solar Energy Business Unit / Tech Support Department
Prepping for Installation
Do you have a calibrated insulated (1000V) torque driver with the correct Torx T20 and T25 bits? Have you downloaded and studied the latest revision of both the Installation Manual (https://goo.gl/1PZTtC)
and the Operations Manual (https://goo.gl/xUUFPJ)? Read the manual prior to installing the inverter.
Do you have the most recent Inverter software loaded on a USB drive, formatted to FAT32, unzipped to the
root .udp file? Is it the only file on that drive? (
https://goo.gl/oeRVqP)
Mounting Bracket Installation
Have you located a flat, stable mounting surface, located out of direct sunlight (for optimal performance)? Did you only use the flanged mounting holes and 1” fender washers? Are washers properly seated so they do not extend outside the flanged area? Will the mounting method ensure sufficient support of the inverter and ensure that the mounting bracket will
not flex or bend? Is the Fronius Primo mounted within the allowable tilt (0° to 90°)?
Have you maintained minimum clearances of 8” from wall, 4” between multiple inverters and 8” from top)?

Conduit, Conductors a nd Com m unica t ion Wire Installation
Is the PV DC polarity correct and confirmed? Are the PV DC voltage measurements within inverter specifications (between 80V and 600V for residential
installations and 80V to 1,000V for ground mount)?
Has the allowable conduit size been used (3/4” for 8.2kW and smaller, and 1.25” for 10KW larger)
Is the conduit system installed to prevent water from entering the inverter:
Are all conduit entry and exit points properly sealed with an appropriate water-tight cord grip, putty
or sealant?
Are the conduit ground bushings free from obstructing the proper closing of the mounting bracket to the
inverter power stack (facing either up or down, not facing out of the inverter)?
Are the DC and AC conductors installed with the necessary service loop length? Are the conductors routed behind the DC disconnect actuator?
01/2017 2/4
Page 3
Are ALL the AC and DC conductors (including unused) installed at the terminal block to 16 in-lbs (1.8 Nm)
of torque?
If using integrated Fuse string fuse holders, are the included steel slugs replaced with appropriately sized
and rated fuses (only applies to the Primo 10 to 15kW)?
Are all communication wire entry points sealed to prevent water ingress?
Inverter Power Stack Installation
Is the DC Disconnect in the “OFF” position prior to installing power stack to mounting
bracket?
Is there NO dust, debris or moisture in the mounting bracket? Is there no physical interference between the mounting bracket and power stack (i.e.
ground bushings or conductors)?
Are the anchor screws of the inverter secured to the mounting bracket with 22 in-lbs (2.5 Nm) of torque?
Updating the Inverter
Has the software been updated to the latest version listed on (https://goo.gl/oeRVqP)?
o Update instructions: https://goo.gl/NzZr5y
Closing the Datcom Cover
Are the mounting bracket, Datcom area and Datcom cover free from moisture prior to installation? Did the Datcom cover snap into place (you will hear a clicking noise) when pushing it into place?
Is the upper edge of the Datcom cover properly positioned under the edge of power stack cover?
01/2017 3/4
Page 4
Are the SnapINverter Datcom cover screws properly torqued to 22 in-lbs (2.5 Nm)?
Does the power stage lay parallel to the edge of the mounting bracket?
The picture below shows what a proper connection between the power stage and the mounting bracket looks like:
Setting up the Inverter
First energize AC, then turn on the DC disconnect Follow the start-up menu prompts: select country, AC grid & MPPT set-up
o Note: if strings are connected to MPPT2, be sure to turn it “On” during the set-up pr ompt.
Set-up the Datamanager 2.0 card Provision your system in Solar.web
