/ A yield comparison between DC optimised systems and conventional PV-systems
/ Both micro inverters and panel/DC optimisers are classified as Module-Level Power Electronics (MLPE). In a PV-
system equipped with MLPE, the yield of each module is maximized. Irradiation differences because of shade,
mismatching, different orientations or angles do not affect the other modules. In a PV-system with a string inverter,
modules that are connected to the same MPP-tracker are influenced by each other.
/ However, PV-systems equipped with MLPE do not always have higher yields than PV-systems with string inverters.
Sometimes the loss of MLPE is higher than the extra yield they gain. In reality PV-systems, either equipped with
Fronius string inverters or MLPE1, show a wide variation in yield performance. Derived from a technical analysis
investigation including computer simulations the following results show how Fronius string inverters compare with
MLPE.

All tests on PV-systems showed lower yields for MLPE systems than calculated. The benefit of MLPE at PV-systems was mainly visible in winter
when (partially) covered with snow.

algorithm efficiently finds the global Maximum Power Point
(MPP) of modules and therefore mitigates potential yield
losses. The effects of shade can also be strongly reduced by
using the flexible connection possibilities, given by the
2 MPP-trackers with each a very wide voltage range.
