/ Largest photovoltaic system in southern Chile
/ In comparison with the desert-covered north of the country, Chile‘s southern
region has so far been much less enthusiastic about photovoltaic systems. But
now, the Puerto Montt German School is forging a new path together with
solar company Grammer Solar. The largest PV system installed to date in the
south of Chile was inaugurated as part of a huge celebration, to which Chile‘s
energy minister was also invited.
Over 210 solar modules from Solarnova can now be found adorning the
school‘s roof. Together with three Fronius Symo inverters, they ensure that
roughly half of the school‘s energy needs are being met by power from the
sun. The trigger for this investment was a new law that came into force in
2014, which gave every Chilean citizen the right to own their own PV system,
to use the power it generates and to feed any excess into the grid.
/ For the German installation company, this is just the beginning: “We believe
that in a few years‘ time, solar energy will be just as omnipresent in Chile as it
is in Germany,” stated a confident Siegfried Schöpf, Managing Director of
Grammer Solar.
