ST. VEIT SOLAR CAMPUS, AUSTRIA
/ Austria‘s first and largest photovoltaic power plant on a landfill site
/ The PV system in St. Veit an der Glan was built by Kompostierwerk – a municipal subsidiary – and is already the eighth and largest photovoltaic power
plant in the solar-friendly town. The idea behind the plant is to create NEW
from OLD, and it was to this end that the developers have converted the former landfill site. It not only puts this problem site to good use, but also contributes to meeting the town‘s aspiration of achieving energy self-sufficiency by
2020.
/ “Reusing a landfill site has never been done before in Austria. For years this
area had to be left abandoned. Now it has been given a new lease of life and
provides solar power to approximately 620 households,” explains Josef Lobnig,
managing director of Solartec Photovoltaik GmbH.
/ Only Austrian companies were contracted to construct the power plant. The
deciding factor in opting for Fronius inverters was the high product quality
from a domestic manufacturer. The first Fronius Agilo inverters were commissioned after just four weeks of construction work.
