High Pitched Chatter

Today's high efficiency compressors

may have a high pitched chatter

during the coolingcycle.

Vibration

Unit may vibrate and make noise because of poor wall or window

construction or incorrectinstallation.

Gurgle/Hiss

"Gurgling or hissing" noise may be heard due torefrigerant passing through the evaporator duringnormal operation.

Pinging or Swishing

Droplets of water hitting the condenser during normal operation may cause "pinging or swishing"

sounds.

Prevent Accidents

To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, orinjurytopersonswhen using your air conditioner, follow basic precautions, including the

following:

• Be sure the electrical service is adequate forthemodelyouhave chosen. This information can be found on the serial plate,which is located on the side of the cabinet and behind the grille.

• If the air conditioner is to be installed in awindow, you will probably want to clean both sides of the glass first. If the window is a triple-track type with a screen panel included, remove the screen completely before installation.

• Be sure the airconditioner has been securely and correctly installed according to the separate installation instructions provided with this

manual. Save this manual and the installation instructions for possible future use in removing orreinstalling this unit.

• When handling the air conditioner, be careful to avoid cuts from sharp metal fins on front and rear coils.

Electrical Information

The complete electrical rating of your new room air conditioner is stated on the serial plate. Refer to the rating when checking the electrical requirements.

• Be sure theair conditioner isproperly grounded. To minimize shock and fire hazards, propergrounding is important. The power cord is

equippedwithathree-prong grounding plug and a current leakage detection device forprotection against shock& fire hazards.

• Your air conditioner must be used in a properly grounded wall receptacle. If thewall receptacle you intend to useis not adequately grounded or protected by a time delay fuseor circuit breaker, have a

qualified electrician install the proper receptacle.

• Do not run airconditioner with outside protective cover in place. This could result in mechanical damage within the airconditioner.

• Do not usean extension cordor an adapterplug.

Energy Saving Ideas

• Do not blockinside air flowwith blinds, curtainsor furniture; or

outside with shrubs, enclosures, or other buildings.

• The capacity of the room air conditioner mustfittheroomsizefor efficient and satisfactory operation.

• Install the room air conditioner on theshadysideofyourhome. A window that faces north is best because itis shaded most of the day.

Close thefireplace damper, floor and wall registers so cool airdoes

not escape upthe chimney andinto the ductwork.

Keep blinds anddrapes in otherwindows closed duringthesunniest

part of the day.

Clean the air filter as recommended in the section "Care and

Cleaning"

Proper insulation and weatherstrippinginyourhomewillhelpkeep

warm airout and cool airin.

External house shadingwith trees, plants or awningswill help reduce

the airconditioner work load.

Operate heat producing appliances such as ranges, washers, dryers

and dishwashers during the coolest part of the day.
