To reduce the risk of re, electrical shock, or injury to persons w hen using this washer, comply with the basic warnings listed below. Failure to comply wit h these warnings could result in serious personal injuries. You can be killed or seriously injured if you don’t follow these Important Safety Instructions:
PREVENT FI RE
Do not wash items that have been previously cleaned
in, soaked in, or spot ted with gasoline, cleaning sol-
vent s, kerosene, cooking oils, waxes, etc. Do not store
these it ems on or near the washer. These substances
give off vapors or chemical react ions that could ignite
or explode.
Do not put oily or greasy rags or clothing on top of t he
washer. These substances give off vapors that could
ignite the materials.
Do not add gasoline, cleaning solvents, or other am-
mable or explosive substances to the wash water.
These substances give off vapors that could ignite or
explode.
Under cert ain conditions, hydrogen gas may be pro-
duced in a hot wat er system that has not been used
for 2 weeks or more. HYDROGEN GAS IS EXPLOSIVE.
If the hot water syst em has not been used for such a
period, before using the washer, turn on all hot wat er
faucets and let the wat er ow from each for several
minutes. This will release any accumulated hydrogen
gas. Hydrogen gas is am mable; do not smoke or use
an open ame during this time.
Do not store or use gasoline or ot her ammable vapors
or liquids in t he vicinity of this or any ot her appliance.
Failure to comply w ith t hese warnings could result in
re, explosion, serious bodily inj ury and/ or damage t o
the rubber or plastic part s of the washer.
PROTECT CHI LDREN
Do not allow children t o play on or in t he washer. Close • supervision of children is necessary when the washer is used near children. As children grow, t each them t he proper, safe use of all appliances.
Destroy the carton, plastic bag and ot her packing ma-• terials after t he washer is unpacked. Children might use them for play. Cart ons covered with rugs, bedspreads or plastic sheet s can become airtight cham bers.
Keep laundry products out of children’s reach. To pre-• vent personal inj ury, observe all war nings on product labels.
Before the washer is removed from service or dis-• carded, remove the washer door t o prevent accident al entrapment.

PREVENT I NJURY
To prevent shock hazard and assure stability during • operation, the washer m ust be installed and electrically grounded by a quali ed service person in accordance with local codes. Installation instructions are packed in the washer for inst aller’s reference. Refer to

procedures. I f the w asher is moved to a new location, have it checked and reinstalled by a quali ed service person.
To prevent personal injury or damage to t he washer, • the electrical power cord of the washer must be plugged int o a properly grounded and polarized 3-prong outlet. The third grounding prong must never be removed. Never ground the washer to a gas pipe. Do not use an extension cord or an adaptor plug.
Follow package directions when using laundry products. • Incorrect usage can produce poisonous gas - resulting in serious inj ury or death.
Do not combine laundry products for use in 1 load un-• less speci ed on the label.
Do not mix chlorine bleach with ammonia or acids such • as vinegar.

To prevent serious personal injury and damage t o the washer:
All r epairs and servicing must be performed by an • authorized servicer unless speci cally recommended in this Use & Care Guide. Use only authorized factory parts.
Do not tamper with controls.• Do not inst all or store the w asher where it will be ex-
posed to the w eather. Do not inst all on carpet. Install washer on a solid oor.
It may be necessary to reinforce the oor to prevent vibration or movement.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, disconnect this • appliance f rom t he power supply before attempting any user maintenance. Turning the controls t o the OFF posit ion does not disconnect this appliance from the pow er supply.
To prevent inj ury, do not reach into the washer while • parts are moving. Before loading, unloading or add­ing items, push in the cycle selector knob and allow the drum to coast t o a complete stop before reaching inside.
This washer is equipped w ith an elect rical overload • protect or. The motor will stop if it becom es overheated. The washer will automatically restart after a cool down period of up to 30 minutes, if the w asher has not been manually turned of f during this time.

Normal Operat ing Sounds
You may or may not hear the following sounds from your new washer:
A. DRAI N HOSE The washer has a exible drain hose
to carry water f rom t he washer to t he stand pipe of your home. You will hear water owing into your stand pipe. This is a nor mal part of the operation of the washer.
B. WATER VALVES/ DI SPENSER As w ater enters
the dispenser system, it is common to hear a wat er
owing sound. This normal sound w ill vary slightly
based on the wat er pressure in your home.
C. DRAI N PUMP Your washer is equipped wit h a high
velocity drain pump. I t is normal t o hear humming and gur gling sounds as water is pumped from the washer. Both of these sounds are normal and indicate that your pump is f unct ioning correctly.
D. HI GH SPEED MOTOR A powerful motor is used t o
drive t he drum to high spin speeds to extract wat er from your load. You will hear a sound associated with these higher spin speeds. This sound is normal and will var y slightly as the spin speed varies with load size and cycle selected.

Abnormal, on-going sounds may be an indication of a pending washer failure and should be investigated by a quali ed t echnician.
1 Sort laundry into loads that can be washed
together.
Sort items by recommended cycle and water tem-• perat ure. Separate white, light and colorfast it ems from dark • and non-colorfast it ems. Separate items t hat shed lint from items t hat at-• tract lint . Casual, synt het ic, knit, and corduroy items w ill pick up lint from t owels, rugs, and che­nille bedspreads. Separate heavily soiled items from lightly soiled • items. Separate lacy, sheer, loosely knit , or delicat e items • from durable items. Do not machine wash item s containing berglass. Small particles of berglass left in the drum may transfer to fabrics in other loads and cause skin irr itation.

2 Prepare items for washing.
Empty pockets.
Brush off lint and dirt. Shake out rugs and beach • towels. Close zippers, fasten hooks, tie strings and sashes, • and remove non-washable trims and ornaments. Mend rips and tears to prevent further damage • dur ing washing. Turn knit it ems inside out t o prevent pilling.• Place delicat e and small items such as bras, hosiery • and baby socks in a mesh bag.
(Mesh bag not included.)
4 Add laundry load t o w asher.
Combine large and small items in a load.• Load large items rst. Large items should not be more t han half t he total wash load. Washing single it ems such as a sweat er, towel or • jeans is inef cient and may cause an out-of-bal- ance load. Add 1 or 2 similar items to help balance the load. Wash a single heavy item such as a king-sized • comf ort er, bedspread or sleeping bag separat ely. The washer can be fully loaded, but t he items • should not be tightly packed. The door should close easily.
3 Pretreat stains and heavy soil.

5 Add laundry products to the dispenser.

Use a low-sudsing, high ef ciency detergent to prevent oversudsing in front load washers. Look for this sym bol on the det ergent label:
Detergent, liquid chlorine bleach and liquid fabric soft­ener will be dispensed at the proper times in t he cycle.
I MPORTANT
Open and close t he dispenser drawer slowly. Closing the drawer too quickly could r esult in early dispensing of the bleach or fabric soft ener.
Use the cap or scoop provided by the det ergent manufact urer t o measure the amount recommended. Detergent dosage may need to be adjusted for water temperatur e, water hardness, load size and soil level.
Liquid Det ergent
Add the recommended amount of a high ef ciency liq- uid det ergent to the “Main Wash - liquid only” cup. Do not exceed the MAX ll line. Liquid detergent can also be added directly to the • “Main Wash” cham ber when not using t he “Pre-
Wash” opt ion.

Powder Det ergent
To use a high ef ciency powder detergent , remove the “ Main Wash - liquid only” cup and add the pow ­der directly to t he “Main Wash” detergent chamber.

Save the liquid cup insert for future use. DO NOT discard it w hile you are using powder det ergent.

Do not mix liquids and powders.
Detergent for Prewash
For heavily soiled or stained loads, select t he Pre-
wash option and add the recom mended amount of
detergent to the “ Pre-Wash” deter gent cup.

Liquid Chlorine Bleach
If desired, add liquid chlorine bleach to t he cham-• ber labeled “ Liquid Bleach” and marked with t his symbol: Fill t o the MI N line for small loads or the MAX line for large loads. DO NOT ll above the maximum ll line.

6 Select the appropriate cycle and set tings for
the load.
Turn the cycle selector knob in either direction to • select the cycle desired. The indicat or for that cycle will be illuminated. The estimated cycle time, suitable wash and rinse • wat er tem peratures, nal spin speed, soil level, and opt ions for each cycle will be indicated for the cycle selected. See t he “Washer Settings Chart” for more details. To change the settings, press t he Temp, Spin
Speed and Soil Level butt ons to scroll to the
desired settings. To select or delete an opt ion, press the button for • that opt ion. The indicator will be illuminat ed when the option has been selected. The indicator will no longer be lighted when the option has been deleted.

To provide the best care for your laundry, not every sett ing or opt ion is available with every cycle. I f a sett ing or opt ion is not available for the cycle selected, the indicator will not light.
Adjustments to a cycle will be remembered and re-• called each tim e t hat cycle is select ed in t he future.

To return to factory sett ings, press these two buttons at the same tim e and hold until the signal sounds.
7 Start t he washer.
Close the door and press Start. The washer will not operate with the door open. “DOOR OPEN” will be displayed as a reminder t o close the door. Select Delay Start to delay the beginning of the cycle, if desired. As a safety measure, the door w ill automat ically • lock during the entire wash cycle. To add a forgot ten item to the washer any time • dur ing the wash portion of the cycle, press Pause. When the door unlocks, open the door, add the item, close the door and press Start to resume the cycle If changes to the settings or options are attempted • aft er the cycle starts, you will hear several beeps
Excess w rinkling, color transfer or odors may de-• velop in items left in the w asher aft er the cycle has ended, if not removed promptly.
CAUTI ON
ENTRAPMENT and TI P- OVER HAZARD
Do not leave the door open if there are small children or pets present. An open door could entice children to hang on the door or crawl inside t he washer. I f there are no small children present, you may leave the door ajar t o prevent odor build up.

Use the Sanitize cycle t o clean and sanitize heavily soiled, colorfast fabrics including towels, bedding, and children’s clothing. Very hot water, all spin speeds,
Soil Levels except light and extra light , and all
all opt ions except Prewash, Energy Saver and Stain
Pretreat (on select m odels) are available w ith t his cycle.
It is recommended that you set your water heater to 120° F (49° C) or higher to ensure proper performance dur ing this cycle. I f the setting is lower or the load is extra large, the cycle time will be extended by 30 minutes or more. The Sanit ize cycle will kill 99.9% of bacteria with no carryover of bacteria between loads. No bleach or harsh chem icals are needed, but higher t emperatures are required. Please check fabric care labels t o prevent damage.

If you have asthm a or allergy sufferers in your home, use t his cycle t o combine hot wat er temperat ure (boosted with internal heater), fast speed t umbling and multiple rinses t o help ensure the destruction of dust mites and removal of pet dander.

NOTE
The wash water is heat ed by an inter nal boost heater to a maxim um of 152° F (67° C) as the load tumbles. Cold water is added to cool down the load prior to drain and spin.

If the voltage at your outlet is under 110 v, the internal heat er may not adequately heat the wash water. If the cycle is interrupted while the water is heating, the
nal temperatur e of t he wash water may be lower and
sanitation may be reduced.
As a precaut ion, t he washer door is locked once the wat er tem perature reaches 130° F (55° C). If the cycle is cancelled during t he wash phase and t he wat er tem perature is great er than 150° F (66° C), an automatic cool down and drain will occur before the door can be opened.
Bulky (on select models)
This cycle is designed for bulky it ems such as comf ort ers, blankets, mattress pads, sleeping bags and similar items. Ten minutes of norm al r eversing

Whitest Whites
The Whitest W hites cycle provides 15 minutes of tumble wash action followed by two rinses. Use this cycle to clean soiled white fabrics w ith t he addit ion of bleach. Hot water is recomm ended to ensure optimal bleach activation. For peak rinsing perform ance and to avoid chlor ine residues on your laundry add a
Rinse to this cycle. All opt ions except Sanitize w ash
and Light soil are available, including Energy Saver.
Normal
The Normal cycle provides 15 m inutes of reversing tumble wash action for normally soiled loads.
Pretreat (on select m odels), Fresh Water Rinse,

The Quick W ash cycle provides 5 minutes of reversing tumble action to quickly wash small, lightly soiled loads in 20 minutes. A warm wash/cold r inse is available and you can choose betw een Max and High spin speeds.
Delicates
This cycle provides 10 minutes of gentle reversing wash action for knits and delicates. To protect your delicate items, Hot water wash and Heavy Soil options are not available. The Stain Pret reat

Rinse & Spin
Select Rinse & Spin for loads that need a cold wat er rinse or to add fabric softener that may have been omitt ed in a regular cycle. Add the fabric sof tener to the dispenser chamber. Select t he spin speed appropriate for t he load.
Spin Only ( on select models)
Use the Spin Only cycle anytime you want t o drain wat er from the washer and spin out the load or as a follow-up to a No Spin selection. Select t he spin speed appropriate to the load.
Specialty Cycle Selection
Specialty Cycles ( on select models)
Turn the cycle selector to Specialty Cycles t o access additional custom cycles. Scroll through the cycles by pressing the outer buttons under the LCD screen.

WASH W ATER TEMPERATURE
To change the preset tem perat ure, press the Temp but ton to scroll to the desired setting. Select a wash wat er tem perature according to ber content, colorfastness and soil level. A cold water rinse saves energy and reduces wrinkling.
To protect your fabrics, not all temperatures are available with every cycle. The indicator w ill not light if t he setting is not available with that cycle.
The tem perat ure selected for the cycle will be remembered and recalled each time that cycle is select ed in the future.
To return to factory sett ings, press these two buttons at the same tim e and hold until the signal sounds.

Sanit ize
This setting sanitizes heavily soiled colorfast f abrics such as towels, bedding, and children’s clothing by killing 99.9% of bacteria using w ash water heated with a boost heater to 152° F (67° C). Cold water is used to cool and rinse the load.
SPI N SPEED
Max, High, Medium and Low spin speeds are available
for each cycle. The spin speed and/ or duration of nal spin vary fr om model t o model and cycle to cycle.
Increasing t he spin speed w ill extract more water, decrease drying time and conserve energy. Decreasing the spin speed will r educe wrinkling.
Select Low spin speed to gently spin items that should be line dried.
Use No Spin to omit t he nal spin at t he end of the cycle. The load will be very wet. Remove items from the wash drum to drip dry or select a Spin Only or Rinse
and Spin cycle to remove excess water at a more
convenient time.
SOI L LEVEL
Adjust the wash time in 3-minut e increments based on the soil level of each load. Max, Heavy, Normal, Light and Extra Light soil levels are available.

Pre Wash
Select t his option to add a short initial wash period to a cycle. Heavily soiled and stained loads will prewash for approximately 5 minutes. The water w ill drain and the load will automat ically advance to t he regular wash cycle.

A signal will sound at the end of t he cycle if this option is select ed.
Delay Start

Status Display/ Status Lights
The estimated total cycle time will be displayed when the cycle is select ed. The time m ay increase if water pressure is low, oversudsing occurs or the load becomes unbalanced. The approxim ate time remaining will be displayed during t he cycle.
A situation where oversudsing has been det ected by the washer w ill result in t he washer aut omatically adding up to 4 extra rinses to at tempt t o clear the suds. Each extra rinse the washer perform s to clear t he suds will add 5 minutes to the cycle display t ime. If an excessive amount of det ergent has been added and addit ional rinsing has not corrected the issue, “TOO MUCH DETERGENT” will be displayed.
Vent Lat ch
Help prevent odor buildup and mildew betw een washes by utilizing your washer’s vent lat ch feature. To apply t he vent lock, (1) open the door slightly, (2) lift the lat ch arm and then (3) press the arm down onto the plastic door strike, snapping it in place.
The vent lat ch can be released eit her of t wo ways - by pulling door out and manually ret urning lat ch arm to lower position or by pushing door shut and allowing latch arm to continue its pivot upward.

Safe Stain Removal Procedures

Detergent and fabric softener may build up in the dispenser drawer. Residue should be removed once or twice a month.
Remove t he draw er by pulling the drawer out until it • stops.
Reach back into t he left rear corner of t he draw er cav-• ity and press dow n rmly on the lock t ab. Pull out the draw er.
Remove t he insert from t he bleach and fabric sof tener • compartments.
Rinse the drawer and inserts with a combination of ¾ • cup liquid chlorine bleach and 1 gallon hot tap w ater to remove traces of accumulated powders and liquids. Large amounts of fabric softener residue may indicate improper dilut ion or more f requent cleaning is required. Rinse well w ith tap wat er.
To clean the draw er opening, use a small brush to • clean the recess. Remove all residue from t he upper and lower part s of the recess.
Replace the insert by pressing it in place until you hear • a slight click. Return the dispenser drawer.

Remove items from the washer as soon as the cycle • ends. Excess w rinkling, color transfer, and odors may develop in it ems left in t he washer.
If there are no small children or pets present, you may • leave the door aj ar when the washer is not in use.
Leave t he dispenser drawer open slightly at t he end of • the wash day.
Dry around the washer door opening, exible gasket, and door glass. These areas should always be clean t o ensure a water tight seal.
When ext remely soiled items have been washed, a dirty • residue may remain on the drum . Remove this by w ip­ing the drum with a nonabrasive household cleanser. Rinse thoroughly w ith water.
Periodically, wipe dry t he folds in the bottom of the
exible gasket to remove lint and other debris.

I nside Cleaning (Aggressive)
In cases where the Clean W asher cycle along with care and cleaning of rubber gasket folds isn’t done, and severe odor, m old, mildew, or residue buildup have developed, follow the below cleaning procedure to help alleviate the problem.
CLEANI NG PROCEDURE - Washer Drum
Ensure the wash tub is empty (or no clothes load) . Open the detergent drawer and pour eight ( 8) cups of bleach int o the “MAI N W ASH” det ergent compartment. Select
Clean Washer cycle as described previously in
Rout ine Cleaning ( Preventative) .
Upon cycle completion inspect the interior of the washer t o see if the odor/ residue has been elim inat ed. If any addit ional cleaning is required, repeat the above procedure. This may t ake several cycles depending on the severity of the odor/ residue. You may observe som e remaining discolorat ion due to the long term effects of this residue.
For especially contam inat ed areas visible inside the drum (including the front rubber seal) , these areas might be more effectively cleaned by spraying a Bleach Cleaner on a scrub brush, soft sponge, or t owel and scrubbing.

Outside Routine Cleaning
When washing is completed, wipe t op and sides of washer • with a damp cloth. Turn w ater faucets off t o prevent pres­sure build-up in t he hoses.

If the cabinet becomes stained, clean wit h diluted chlo-• rine bleach ( 1 part bleach t o 8 parts water). Rinse several times w ith clear w ater.

Winterizing I nstructions
I MPORTANT
If the washer is stored in an area where freezing can occur or moved in freezing temperatures, follow these winterizing instruct ions to prevent damage to the washer:
1 Turn off water supply faucets.
2 Disconnect hoses from water supply and drain wat er
from hoses.
3 Plug electrical cord into a properly grounded elect rical
out let.
4 Add 1 gallon (3.8 L) nontoxic recreational vehicle (RV)
antifr eeze to em pty wash drum. Close door.
5 Select t he Spin Only cycle. Press Start and let the
washer drain for 1 minute to drain out all the water. Not all of the RV ant ifreeze will be expelled.
6 Press Cancel, unplug electrical pow er cord, dr y off
drum interior and close door.
7 Remove dispenser draw er. Drain any water in
compartments and dry compartment s. Replace drawer.
8 St ore washer in an upr ight position.
9 To remove antif reeze from washer aft er storage,
perform Clean System Cycle as described earlier.

Many washing problems involve poor soil and stain removal, residues of lint and scum , and fabric dam ­age. For satisfactory washing result s, f ollow these suggestions provided by The Soap and Detergent Association.
