persons with pre-existing health problems.
2. It is the responsibility of the owner to ensure
that all users of this treadmill are adequately
informed of all warnings and precautions.
3. Use the treadmill only as described.
4. Place the treadmill on a level surface, with at
least 8 ft. (2.4 m) of clearance behind it and 2
ft. (0.6 m) on each side. Do not place the
treadmill on any surface that blocks air openings. To protect the floor or carpet from damage, place a mat under the treadmill.
5. Keep the treadmill indoors, away from moisture and dust. Do not put the treadmill in a
garage or covered patio, or near water.
6. Do not operate the treadmill where aerosol
products are used or where oxygen is being
administered.
7. Keep children under age 12 and pets away
from the treadmill at all times.
8. The treadmill should be used only by persons weighing 400 lbs. (181 kg) or less.
11. When connecting the power cord (see page
15), plug the power cord into a surge suppressor (not included) and plug the surge suppressor into a grounded circuit capable of
carrying 15 or more amps. No other appliance
should be on the same circuit. Do not use an
extension cord.
12. Use only a single-outlet surge suppressor that
meets all of the specifications described on
page 15. To purchase a surge suppressor, see
the back cover of this manual and order part
number 146148, or see your local electronics
store.
13. Failure to use a properly functioning surge
suppressor could result in damage to the control system of the treadmill. If the control system is damaged, the walking belt may slow,
accelerate, or stop unexpectedly, which may
result in a fall and serious injury.
14. Keep the power cord and the surge suppressor away from heated surfaces.
15. Never move the walking belt while the power
is turned off. Do not operate the treadmill if
the power cord or plug is damaged, or if the
treadmill is not working properly. (See
TROUBLESHOOTING on page 37 if the treadmill is not working properly.)
9. Never allow more than one person on the
treadmill at a time.
10. Wear appropriate exercise clothes when
using the treadmill. Do not wear loose
clothes that could become caught in the
treadmill. Athletic support clothes are recommended for both men and women. Always
wear athletic shoes. Never use the treadmill
with bare feet, wearing only stockings, or in
sandals.
16. Read, understand, and test the emergency
stop procedure before using the treadmill (see
HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 17).
17. Never start the treadmill while you are standing on the walking belt. Always hold the
handrails while using the treadmill.
3
8. The treadmill is capable of high speeds.
1
Adjust the speed in small increments to
void sudden jumps in speed.
a
9. The pulse sensor is not a medical device.
1
Various factors, including the user's move-
ent, may affect the accuracy of heart rate
m
readings. The pulse sensor is intended only
as an exercise aid in determining heart rate
trends in general.
20. Never leave the treadmill unattended while it
is running. Always remove the key, unplug
the power cord, and switch the reset/off circuit breaker to the “off” position when the
treadmill is not in use. (See the drawing on
page 6 for the location of the reset/off circuit
breaker.)
21. Do not attempt to move the treadmill until it is
properly assembled. (See ASSEMBLY on

2
below -40° F (-40° C) or above 140° F (60° C).
Do not operate the television in temperatures
below 23° F (-5° C) or above 90° F (32° C).
29. To protect the treadmill and television during
lightning storms, unplug the power cord from
the wall outlet and disconnect the cable system. This will prevent damage due to lightning and power line surges.
30. If an outside antenna or cable system is connected, be sure that the antenna or cable system is grounded to provide some protection
against voltage surges and built-up static
charges. Section 810 of the National
Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA No. 70-1984, or
your local codes and ordinances provide information with respect to proper grounding
of the mast and supporting structure,
grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna
discharge unit, size of grounding conductors,
location of antenna discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode.
24. Never insert or drop any object into any
opening on the treadmill.
25. DANGER: Always unplug the power
cord immediately after use, before cleaning
the treadmill, and before performing the
maintenance and adjustment procedures described in this manual. Never remove the
motor hood unless instructed to do so by an
authorized service representative. Servicing
other than the procedures in this manual
should be performed by an authorized service representative only.
26. The treadmill is intended for light commercial
and in-home use only. Do not use the treadmill in any commercial, rental, or institutional
setting.
31. An outside antenna system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead power lines
or other electric light or power circuits, or
where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an outside antenna
system, extreme care should be taken to
keep from touching such power lines or circuits, as contact with them might be fatal.
32. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not
remove the cover or the back of the television. There are no user serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel.
4
33. Upon completion of any service or repairs to
the treadmill or the television, ask the service
technician to perform safety checks to confirm that the unit is in proper operating condition.
• Use a jumper wire not smaller than No. 6

HOW TO USE THE CHEST PULSE SENSOR
HOW TO PUT ON THE CHEST PULSE SENSOR
The chest pulse sensor consists of two components—
the chest strap and the sensor unit.
Chest Strap
Tabs
Tab
Sensor Unit
Insert the tab on one end of the chest strap into the
hole in one end of the sensor unit, as shown in the inset
drawing above. The tab should be flush with the front of
the sensor unit.
Next, wrap the chest
pulse sensor around
your chest and attach
the other end of the
chest strap to the
sensor unit. Adjust
the length of the
chest strap, if necessary. The chest pulse
sensor should be under your clothes, tight against your
skin, and as high under the pectoral muscles or
breasts as is comfortable. Make sure that the logo on
the sensor unit is facing forward and is right-side-up.
Pull the sensor unit away from your body a few inches
and locate the two electrode areas on the inner side
(the electrode areas are covered by shallow ridges).
Using saline solution such as saliva or contact lens solution, wet both electrode areas. Return the sensor unit
to a position against your chest.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
• Thoroughly dry the chest pulse sensor after each
use. The chest pulse sensor is activated when the
electrode areas are wetted and the chest pulse sensor is put on; the chest pulse sensor shuts off when
it is removed and the electrode areas are dried. If
Sensor
Unit
Buckle
the chest pulse sensor is not dried after
each use, it may remain activated longer than necessary, draining the battery prematurely.
• Store the chest pulse sensor in a warm, dry place.
Do not store the chest pulse sensor in a plastic bag
or other container that may trap moisture.
• Do not expose the chest pulse sensor to direct
sunlight for extended periods of time; do not expose
it to temperatures above 122° F (50° C) or below 14°
F (-10° C).
• Do not excessively bend or stretch the sensor unit
when using or storing the chest pulse sensor.
• Clean the sensor unit using a damp cloth—never
use alcohol, abrasives, or chemicals. The chest
strap may be hand washed and air dried.
TROUBLESHOOTING
The instructions on the following pages explain
how the chest pulse sensor is used with the console. If the chest pulse sensor does not function
properly, try the steps below.
• Make sure that you are wearing the chest pulse sensor as described at the left. Note: If the chest pulse
sensor does not function when positioned as described, move it slightly lower or higher on your chest.
• Use saline solution such as saliva or contact lens
solution to wet the two electrode areas on the
sensor unit. If heart rate readings do not appear until
you begin perspiring, rewet the electrode areas.
• As you walk or run on the treadmill, position yourself near the center of the walking belt. For the
console to display heart rate readings, the user
must be within armʼs length of the console.
• The chest pulse sensor is designed to work with
people who have normal heart rhythms. Heart rate
reading problems may be caused by medical
conditions such as premature ventricular contractions (pvcs), tachycardia bursts, and arrhythmia.
• The operation of the chest pulse sensor can be
affected by magnetic interference caused by high
power lines or other sources. If it is suspected that
this is a problem, try relocating the treadmill.
14
OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT
THE PRE-LUBRICATED WALKING BELT
our treadmill features a walking belt coated with high-
Y
performance lubricant. IMPORTANT: Never apply sil-
icone spray or other substances to the walking
belt or the walking platform. Such substances will
deteriorate the walking belt and cause excessive
wear.
HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD
DANGER: Improper connection
of the equipment-grounding conductor can
result in an increased risk of electric shock.
Check with a qualified electrician or serviceman if you are in doubt as to whether the
product is properly grounded. Do not modify
the plug provided with the product—if it will
not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet
installed by a qualified electrician.
Your treadmill, like any other type of sophisticated
electronic equipment, can be seriously damaged by
sudden voltage changes in your homeʼs power.
Voltage surges, spikes, and noise interference can
result from weather conditions or from other appliances
being turned on or off. To decrease the possibility of
your treadmill being damaged, always use a surge
suppressor with your treadmill (see drawing 1 at
the right). To purchase a surge suppressor, see the
back cover of this manual and order part number
146148, or see your local electronics store.
an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding
plug. Plug the power cord into a surge suppressor,
nd plug the surge suppressor into an appropriate
a
outlet that is properly installed and grounded in
accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
IMPORTANT: The treadmill is not compatible with
GFCI-equipped outlets.
This product is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit,
and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated in drawing 1 below. A temporary adapter that
looks like the adapter illustrated in drawing 2 may be
used to connect the surge suppressor to a 2-pole
receptacle as shown in drawing 2 if a properly
grounded outlet is not available.

Surge Suppressor
Use only a single-outlet surge suppressor that is
UL 1449 listed as a transient voltage surge suppressor (TVSS). The surge suppressor must have a
UL suppressed voltage rating of 400 volts or less
and a minimum surge dissipation of 450 joules.
The surge suppressor must be electrically rated for
120 volts AC and 15 amps. There must be a monitoring light on the surge suppressor to indicate
whether it is functioning properly. Failure to use a
properly functioning surge suppressor could result
in damage to the control system of the treadmill. If
the control system is damaged, the walking belt
may slow, accelerate, or stop unexpectedly, which
may result in a fall and serious injury.
This product must be grounded. If it should malfunc-
tion or break down, grounding provides a path of least
resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This product is equipped with a cord having
Lug
Metal Screw
The temporary adapter should be used only until a
properly grounded outlet (drawing 1) can be installed
by a qualified electrician.
The green-colored rigid ear, lug, or the like extending
from the adapter must be connected to a permanent
ground such as a properly grounded outlet box cover.
Whenever the adapter is used it must be held in place
by a metal screw. Some 2-pole receptacle outlet box
covers are not grounded. Contact a qualified electrician to determine if the outlet box cover is
grounded before using an adapter.

TROUBLESHOOTING
ost treadmill problems can be solved by following the steps below. Find the symptom that applies, and
M
follow the steps listed. If further assistance is needed, please see the back cover of this manual.
PROBLEM: The power does not turn on
SOLUTION: a. Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a surge suppressor, and that the surge suppressor
is plugged into a properly grounded outlet (see page 15). Use only a single-outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 15. IMPORTANT: The treadmill is not
compatible with GFCI-equipped outlets.
b. After the power cord has been plugged in, make sure that the key is inserted into the console.
c. Check the reset/off circuit breaker located on the
treadmill frame near the power cord. If the switch protrudes as shown, the circuit breaker has tripped. To
reset the circuit breaker, wait for five minutes and
then press the switch to the reset position.
PROBLEM: The power turns off during use
SOLUTION: a. Check the reset/off circuit breaker (see the drawing above). If the circuit breaker has tripped, wait
for five minutes and then press the switch to the reset position.
b. Make sure that the power cord is plugged in. If the power cord is plugged in, unplug it, wait for five
minutes, and then plug it back in.
c. Remove the key from the console. Reinsert the key into the console.
d. If the treadmill still will not run, please see the back cover of this manual.
PROBLEM: The walking belt slows when walked on
SOLUTION: a. Use only a single-outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 15.
b. If the walking belt is overtightened, treadmill perfor-
mance may decrease and the walking belt may become damaged. Remove the key and UNPLUG THEPOWER CORD. Using the hex key, turn both idler
roller bolts counterclockwise, 1/4 of a turn. When the
walking belt is properly tightened, you should be able
to lift each edge of the walking belt 3 to 4 in. (8 to 10
cm) off the walking platform. Be careful to keep the
walking belt centered. Then, plug in the power cord,
insert the key, and run the treadmill for a few minutes.
Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened.

minutes. Repeat until the walking belt is centered.
b. If the walking belt slips when walked on, first remove
the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. Using
b
the hex key, turn both idler roller bolts clockwise, 1/4
of a turn. When the walking belt is correctly tightened, you should be able to lift each edge of the
walking belt 3 to 4 in. (8 to 10 cm) off the walking
platform. Be careful to keep the walking belt centered. Then, plug in the power cord, insert the key,
and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes.
Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened.
PROBLEM: The incline of the treadmill does not change correctly
SOLUTION: a. The incline system may need to be calibrated. To initiate the calibration routine, switch the
reset/off circuit breaker to the off position, wait 5 seconds, and then switch the circuit breaker back
to the reset position. During the calibration routine, the treadmill will automatically travel to the
highest incline level and then return to the initial level.
b. If the incline system still does not function properly, please see the back cover of this manual.
PROBLEM: The
SOLUTION: a.
b. If your remote control is still not functioning correctly,
remote control
does not function correctly
Make sure that you are standing on the treadmill, holding the remote control near the television and
pointing the remote control directly at the console.
the batteries should be replaced; most re-
mote control problems are the result of low batteries. See page 27 to replace the batteries.
38
PROBLEM: The television is not receiving a signal
SOLUTION: a. Make sure that the correct TV or AV source is selected. See step 3 on page 26 to select a televi-
ion source.
s
. Make sure that the antenna cable, CATV cable, or 96" AV Cable is connected securely to the
b
treadmill. See page 13 to connect a cable to treadmill.
c. Scan for broadcast or cable signals. See page 29 to scan for signals.
d. Due to an FCC requirement, analog signals will no longer be broadcast over the air in the United
States after June 12, 2009. If you wish to view television signals through an antenna after this
date, you must have an antenna capable of receiving digital signals. Cable television will not be
affected.
PROBLEM: The
SOLUTION: a.
volume is too loud or the television audio makes a crackling sound
If the television audio makes a crackling sound when the volume is turned up, the volume is too
loud. Press the Volume increase or decrease button on the remote control until the volume level is
80 percent. Once the volume reaches 80 percent, adjust the volume by pressing the Volume buttons on the console only.
PROBLEM: The
SOLUTION: a.
volume cannot be turned up
If the volume cannot be turned up, the volume may have been adjusted with the remote control.
Press the Volume increase or decrease button on the remote control until the volume level is 80
percent. Once the volume reaches 80 percent, adjust the volume by pressing the Volume buttons
on the console only.
b. If there is no sound coming from the television, make sure that the television audio is not muted.
c. If there is no sound coming from the television, make sure that the audio wire is not plugged into
the audio jack on the console.
PROBLEM: The television needs to be cleaned
SOLUTION: a. UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. To clean the television, wipe the television and screen using a
soft cloth with a small amount of soft detergent. Do not use a polishing cloth, solvent, or any
type of propellant or chemical detergent such as alcohol or benzine.
39
PROBLEM: Television reception is poor
SOLUTION: a. Make sure that the television settings are set correctly. See HOW TO ADJUST THE TELEVI-
ION SETTINGS on page 28.
S
. For the digital television to operate properly, good reception is necessary. If you are using an an-
b
tenna, make sure that it is properly connected and adjusted for optimal reception. See HOW TO
CONNECT AN ANTENNA on page 13.
c. Check for the problems listed below and follow the applicable instructions.
• Ignition (black spots or horizontal streaks that appear or a picture that flutters or drifts)—
Usually this is caused by interference from automobile ignition systems, neon lamps, electric
drifts, or other electric appliances. Try changing the position of the treadmill or other electric
appliances to correct the problem.
• Ghosts—Ghosts are caused by the television signal following two paths—one is the direct path
and the other is reflected from tall buildings, hills, or other objects. Change the direction or position of the antenna to improve reception.
• Blue Screen—If the treadmill is located in the fringe area of a television station where the signal is weak, the picture may be of poor quality or a blue screen may appear. If the signal is
weak, it may be necessary to install an external antenna to improve the picture.
• Fading—If blocks of the picture are missing, the picture moves around the screen, or the picture disappears, the signal may be weak. Change the direction or position of the antenna to improve reception. Make sure that the television settings are set correctly (see HOW TO ADJUST
TELEVISION SETTINGS on page 28). Do not use a splitter.
Note: If one of these problems appears when the cable from a CATV company is connected, the
problem may be caused by the cable company broadcast.

EXERCISE GUIDELINES
WARNING: Before beginning any
xercise program, consult your physician.
e
This is especially important for persons over
age 35 or persons with pre-existing health
problems.
The pulse sensor is not a medical device.
Various factors may affect the accuracy of
heart rate readings. The pulse sensor is intended only as an exercise aid in determining
heart rate trends in general.
These guidelines will help you to plan your exercise
program. For detailed exercise information, obtain a
reputable book or consult your physician. Remember,
proper nutrition and adequate rest are essential for
successful results.
Burning Fat—To burn fat effectively, you must exercise at a low intensity level for a sustained period of
time. During the first few minutes of exercise, your
body uses carbohydrate calories for energy. Only after
the first few minutes of exercise does your body begin
to use stored fat calories for energy. If your goal is to
burn fat, adjust the intensity of your exercise until your
heart rate is near the lowest number in your training
zone. For maximum fat burning, exercise with your
heart rate near the middle number in your training
zone.
Aerobic Exercise—If your goal is to strengthen your
cardiovascular system, you must perform aerobic exercise, which is activity that requires large amounts of
oxygen for prolonged periods of time. For aerobic exercise, adjust the intensity of your exercise until your
heart rate is near the highest number in your training
zone.
EXERCISE INTENSITY
Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your
cardiovascular system, exercising at the proper intensity is the key to achieving results. You can use your
heart rate as a guide to find the proper intensity level.
The chart below shows recommended heart rates for
fat burning and aerobic exercise.
To find the proper intensity level, find your age at the
bottom of the chart (ages are rounded off to the nearest ten years). The three numbers listed above your
age define your “training zone.” The lowest number is
the heart rate for fat burning, the middle number is the
heart rate for maximum fat burning, and the highest
number is the heart rate for aerobic exercise.
WORKOUT GUIDELINES
Warming Up—Start with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching
and light exercise. A warm-up increases your body
temperature, heart rate, and circulation in preparation
for exercise.
Training Zone Exercise—Exercise for 20 to 30 minutes with your heart rate in your training zone. (During
the first few weeks of your exercise program, do not
keep your heart rate in your training zone for longer
than 20 minutes.) Breathe regularly and deeply as you
exercise–never hold your breath.
Cooling Down—Finish with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching. Stretching increases the flexibility of your muscles
and helps to prevent post-exercise problems.
EXERCISE FREQUENCY
To maintain or improve your condition, complete three
workouts each week, with at least one day of rest between workouts. After a few months of regular exercise, you may complete up to five workouts each
week, if desired. Remember, the key to success is to
make exercise a regular and enjoyable part of your
everyday life.
