Getting Started
Gently pull the battery insulation tab to remove it. Use a thin pointed object to press the reset button
on the back of the device.
Replacing Batteries
Your MWD-460 is powered by two CR-2032, 3-volt batteries. Follow these instructions to replace them.
Warning! When changing the batteries, please remove and replace one battery at a time. If you
remove both batteries at once, you may lose any information you entered.
Warning!! If the batteries wear out completely any user-entered information will be erased. You
should always keep written copies of your important information.
1. Turn the unit off and turn it over.
2. Gently push down on the tab under the battery cover and flip the unit to allow the cover to
drop out.
Do not force the cover. Use a paper clip, if necessary, to remove the old batteries.

Battery disposal: Do not dispose of batteries with normal household waste. Please obey your local
regulations when disposing of used batteries.
Battery Precautions
•Different types of batteries or new and used batteries should not be mixed.
•Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be re-charged. Never recharge batteries that come with
the device.
•Rechargeable batteries are to be removed from the device before being charged.
•Rechargeable batteries are only to be charged under adult supervision.
•Only batteries of the same or equivalent type as recommended are to be used.
•The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited.
•Do not expose batteries to direct heat or try to take batteries apart. Follow the battery
manufacturer’s instructions for battery use.
•Always remove a weak or dead battery from the device.
•To avoid damage caused by leakage of the battery fluid, replace the battery or batteries once
every two years regardless of how much the device has been used during that time.
•Should a battery leak, the device may become damaged. Clean the battery compartment
immediately, avoiding contact with your skin.
•Keep batteries out of reach of small children. If swallowed, consult a physician immediately.

Setting the Clock
The clock lets you set a Home time and view local times around the world. You must set the Home
time before viewing World times because World times are based on Home time.

correct word, you go to the definition.

This product has a databank that can save as many as 100 names and phone numbers. The total
amount of names and numbers that you can save depends upon the number of characters in each
entry.

Each name can contain up to 30 characters, including spaces, with letters appearing as

Using a Password
You can use a password to keep the information in the phone list private. The password is requested
when the unit is turned on and the phone list is accessed.
Password Warnings
Warning! After you set the password, you must enter the password to access the phone list for the
first time during a session. Always record your password and keep it in a separate place.
If you forget the password, you must reset the unit to access the phone list. Warning! Resetting the
unit erases all user-entered information. Always keep written copies of your data.
If you do not have a reset button located on the back of your unit, remove the batteries, wait at least
two minutes, and then re-install them. For battery instructions, see “Replacing Batteries”.
If you have a reset button, use the end of a straightened paper clip to gently press the reset button.
If the unit does not reset after pressing the reset button, follow the above instructions for removing
the batteries.

Hangman
Dictionary Hangman uses all the words in the dictionary for the game. SAT Hangman uses only the
words in the SAT Word List and User List Hangman uses the words you entered in My Word List.
The rules for all three games are the same.
Hangman selects a mystery word and challenges you to guess it letter by letter. The letters of the
mystery word are hidden by question marks. The number of guesses remaining is indicated by #s.
Type letters that you think are in the mystery word. If you are correct, the letter appears in place of
the corresponding question mark or marks. Hold CAP and press ? to reveal a letter. Press ? to end
a round and reveal the word. Press DICT to see the definition of the word. Press BACK to return to
Hangman.
Jumble
As in Hangman, the three Jumble games draw from the three different lists. The rules for all three
games are the same.
Jumble tests your ability to unscramble letters and form words. Jumble shows a series of letters.
Type words made from these letters and then press ENTER. Hold CAP and press ? to shuffle the
letters in the root word. Press ? to end a round and reveal the word(s). To see the definition of a
particular word, use or to move the highlight to the word you want and press DICT. Press
BACK to return to Jumble.

Anagrams
Anagrams challenges you to find all of the words that can occur within a selected word. Each letter
can only be used as many times as it appears in the selected word. Each anagram must be a
specified minimum length. This will flash on the screen before each game. The number of possible
anagrams is shown on the right side of the screen.
Type an anagram and then press ENTER. Use the arrow keys to view anagrams you’ve already
entered. Hold CAP and press ? to shuffle the letters in the selected word. Press ? to end a round
and reveal the word. Press DICT to see the definition of the word. Press BACK to return to
Anagrams.
Tic-Tac-Toe
In Tic-Tac-Toe, your challenge is to get three X’s in a row before your opponent can get three O’s in
a row.
You can choose to play 1 Player Tic-Tac-Toe in which you play against the MWD-460 or 2 PlayerTic-Tac-Toe in which you play against a friend.
Use the arrow keys to move your X to the spot that you want and then press ENTER. Then your
opponent, either the computer or a friend, will place an O. The game ends when one side places
three in a row or if there is a tie.

The rate should be in units of the other currency per one unit of the home currency (n
other/1 home). For example, to convert between U.S. Dollars and Euros, enter an exchange
rate of 1.1888. This means that 1.1888 Euros is the equivalent of 1 U.S. Dollar.
5. Enter an amount for the home or other currency.

Resetting Your MWD-460
If the keyboard fails to respond, or if the screen performs erratically, perform a system reset by
following the steps below.
1. Hold CLEAR and press .
If nothing happens, try Step 2.
2. Use a paper clip to gently press the reset button located on the back of the unit.
Warning! Pressing the reset button with more than light pressure may permanently disable
your MWD-460. In addition, resetting the MWD-460 erases settings and user-entered
information.

Limited Warranty (U.S. only)
LIMITED WARRANTY, DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES, AND LIMITED REMEDY
FRANKLIN WARRANTS TO THE ORIGINALPURCHASER THAT THIS PRODUCT WILL BE FREE FROM DEFECTS IN MATERIALS
AND WORKMANSHIP FOR APERIOD OF ONE (1) YEAR FROM THE ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE AS EVIDENCED BY A
COPY OF THE SALES RECEIPT. THIS LIMITED WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER DAMAGE DUE TO ACTS OF GOD, ACCIDENT,
MISUSE, ABUSE, NEGLIGENCE, MODIFICATION, UNSUITABLE ENVIRONMENT, OR IMPROPER MAINTENANCE. THE SOLE
OBLIGATION AND LIABILITY OF FRANKLIN, AND THE EXCLUSIVE REMEDY UNDER THIS LIMITED WARRANTY, IS REPAIR OR
REPLACEMENT AT THE SOLE OPTION OF FRANKLIN AND THIS REMEDYAPPLIES ONLY IN THE CASE IN WHICH FRANKLIN
DETERMINES THATTHE PRODUCT WAS DEFECTIVE AND THAT THE DEFECTAROSE WITHIN THE DURATION OF THE
LIMITED WARRANTY. THIS REMEDY IS THE EXCLUSIVE REMEDY FOR BREACH OF THIS WARRANTY. THIS WARRANTY GIVES
YOU CERTAIN RIGHTS; YOU MAYALSO HAVE OTHER RIGHTS THATMAY VARY FROM JURISDICTION TO JURISDICTION.

BASIS, WITHOUTANY OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, WARRANTIES OF
MERCHANTABLE QUALITY, MERCHANTABILITY, OR FITNESS FOR APARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR THOSE ARISING BYLAW,
STATUTE, USAGE OF TRADE, OR COURSE OF DEALING. THIS WARRANTYAPPLIES ONLYTO PRODUCTS MANUFACTURED BY OR
FOR FRANKLIN AND SPECIFICALLY DOES NOT INCLUDE BATTERIES, CORROSION OF BATTERYCONTACTS OR ANYOTHER
DAMAGE CAUSED BY BATTERIES. FRANKLIN SHALLNOT HAVE ANY LIABILITY TO THE PURCHASER OR ANY OTHER PERSON OR
ENTITY FOR ANYINDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WHATSOEVER, INCLUDING, BUT NOT
LIMITED TO, LOSS OF REVENUE OR PROFIT, LOST OR CORRUPTED DATA, OR OTHER COMMERCIALOR ECONOMIC LOSS, EVEN
IF FRANKLIN HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITYOF SUCH DAMAGES, OR EVEN IF OTHERWISE FORESEEABLE. FRANKLIN
IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR CLAIMS BYA THIRD PARTY. FRANKLIN’S MAXIMUM AGGREGATE LIABILITYSHALL NOT EXCEED THE
AMOUNT PAID FOR THE PRODUCT AS EVIDENCED BY THE SALES RECEIPT. SOME STATES/JURISDICTIONS DO NOTALLOW THE
EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIALOR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE LIMITATION MAY
NOTAPPLY TO YOU. IF THE LAWS OF THE RELEVANTJURISDICTION DO NOT PERMIT FULL WAIVER OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES,

If you return a Franklin product, please include your name, address, telephone number, a brief description of the defect and a copy of
your sales receipt as proof of your original date of purchase. You must also write the RMAprominently on the package if you return
the product; otherwise there may be a lengthy delay in the processing of your return. Franklin strongly recommends using a trackable
form of deliver to Franklin for your return.

Notwithstanding the disclaimer of warranties above, this product, excluding batteries and liquid crystal display (LCD), is guaranteed by
Franklin to be free of defects in materials or workmanship for a period of two years from the date of purchase. It will be repaired or
replaced with an equivalent product (at Franklin’s option) free of charge for any defect in workmanship or materials during that time.
This warranty explicitly excludes defects due to misuse, accidental damage, or wear and tear. This warranty does not affect the
consumer’s statutory rights.

Products purchased outside the United States, the European Union and Switzerland that are returned under warranty should be
returned to the original vendor with proof of purchase and description of fault. Charges will be made for all repairs unless valid proof of
purchase is provided.
