Darkens screen contrast at the Ready screen, scrolls up, or types an apostrophe.
Lightens screen contrast at the Ready screen, scrolls down, or types a period.

If you are using this product for the first time, follow these steps to install the batteries, turn the product on and adjust the screen contrast.
1. Turn the product over.
2. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw to the battery cover and then remove the cover.
3. Place four AAA batteries inside the case, fol­lowing the diagram.
4. Replace the battery cover.
5. Press ON/OFF.
A brief demonstration appears.
6. Press CLEAR to stop the demo.
The Ready screen appears.
7. Press or repeatedly to adjust the screen contrast.
You can adjust the contrast only at the Ready screen.
Disabling the Demonstration
You probably do not want to view the demon­stration every time you turn on this product.To disable the demonstration, type --D and then press ENTER. To re-enable it, do the same.

You can find answers to crossword puzzles by filling in missing letters. Just type a ? for each unknown letter.To type a ?, press LETTER? or ?.
1. Type a word with ?’s.
To erase a letter, press .
2. Press ENTER.
3. Press to view more matches.
4. Press CLEAR when done.
Follow the Arrows
The flashing arrows at the right of the screen show which arrow keys you can press to view more words.
About Automatic Shutoff
Don’t worry if you forget to turn your unit off. If no key is touched within two minutes, your unit will shut itself off.

To find a series of missing letters in a word, type an asterisk.To type an asterisk, press MATCH or .There are more matches here because an asterisk can be one letter or sev­eral letters.
1. Type a word with ✽’s.
2. Press ENTER.
3. Press to view more matches.
4. Press CLEAR when done.
Tips for Finding Words
• Use ?’s to find lists of words (e.g., to view four-letter words beginning with a z, enter Z???).
• Use both ?’s and ’s in a word (e.g., ZK?).There is no need to type a ? next to a ✽.

If you don’t find the answer you were looking for using the ? or keys, try pressing MORE. Each time you press MORE, Crossword Puzzle Solver substitutes letters for the selected word.
1. Enter a word with ?’s or ✽’s and then press ENTER.
For example, enter SH?P?.
2. Press to view the matches.
3. Press MORE.
The lowercase letter is the new letter.
4. Press to view the new matches.
5. Press MORE again.
6. Press CLEAR when done.

The Crossword Puzzle Solver can also search for phrases.You need to know only a few of the letters in the phrase. NOTE: Phrases take longer to find because the entire list of phras­es from A to Z must be searched.
1. Type a word in a phrase (e.g. CAT).
2. Press PHRS.
3. Press to continue searching.
4. Press CLEAR to stop.
Typing Punctuation
At the Ready screen, you can type an apostrophe by pressing or a period by pressing . NOTE: These punctuation
marks cannot begin a word.

Jumble rearranges the letters you enter to form words. It can help you with Scrabble®, anagrams, and other word games.
1. Type letters or a word.
2. Press JUMBLE.
3. Press or to choose the minimum word size (e.g., 4).
4. Press ENTER.
5. Press to view the words.
6. Press CLEAR when done.
