If you are using this product for the first time,
follow these steps to install the batteries, turn
the product on and adjust the screen contrast.

1. Slide the battery cover off in the
direction of the triangle.

2. Place the four AAA batteries inside the
case, following the diagram.

3. Replace the battery cover.

4. Press ON/OFF.

A brief demonstration appears.

5. Press CLEAR to stop the demo.

Getting Started

Crosswords helps you find answers to cross­word puzzles by filling in missing letters. Just

for each unknown letter. To type a ?,

Finding Letters

✓ Follow the Arrows

The flashing arrows at the right of the
screen show which arrow keys you can
press to view more words.

✓ About Automatic Shutoff

Don’t worry if you forget to turn Cross­words off. If no key is touched within two
minutes, Crosswords will shut itself off.

To find a series of missing letters in a word, type
an asterisk. To type an asterisk, press

. There are more matches here because an

asterisk can be one letter or several letters.

✓ Tips for Finding Words

• Use ?’s to find lists of words (e.g., to view
four-letter words beginning with a

z

, enter

Z???

).

• Use both ?’s and ✽’s in a word (e.g.,

Z✽K?

). There is no need to type a ? next

to a ✽.

Finding Parts of Words

Crosswords can also search for phrases. You
need to know only a few of the letters in the
phrase. NOTE: Phrases take longer to find be­cause Crosswords must search the entire list of
phrases from A to Z.

3. Press to continue searching.

Finding Phrases

Finding More Words

If you don’t find the answer you were looking for
using the

keys, try pressing
MORE. Each time you press MORE, Cross­words substitutes letters for one that you’ve
typed.

The lowercase letter is the new letter.

Jumbling Letters

Jumble scrambles the letters you enter to form
words. It can help you with Scrabble®, ana­grams, and other word games.

1. Type letters or a word.

2. Press JUMBLE.

word size (e.g., 4).

5. Press to view the words.

6. Press CLEAR when done.

and wipe the surface. Do not spray liquids di­rectly on this product. Do not use or store this

Limited Warranty (U.S. only)

Franklin Electronic Publishers, Inc., (“Franklin”) warrants to the end user this product will be free from
defects in material and workmanship for a period of ONE YEAR from the date of original retail
purchase, as evidenced by sales receipt. On discovery of a defect, the end user must return this product
(transportation charges prepaid) either to the dealer from whom it was purchased or directly to Franklin
at the address given below . Each product returned must include the user’s name, address, and telephone
number, as well as a brief description of the nature of the defect and a copy of the sales receipt as proof of
the date of the original retail purchase. Franklin will, at its option, repair or replace any product at no
further charge to the end user on determination by Franklin, in its sole discretion, that the product was
defective and that such defect arose within the duration of this limited warranty.
