The ReverseSensing System (RSS)sounds a tone towarn the driverof obstacles nearthe rearbumper when R(Reverse) isselected and thevehicle ismovingat speedsless than3mph (5km/h). Thesystem isnot effectiveat speeds above 3 mph (5km/h) and may not detect certainangular ormoving objects.

This systemhelps youmaintain the stability and steerabilityof your vehicle on slippery road surfaces suchas snow, ice,or gravel. The system works closely with many of the elements alread y present in the Anti- lock Braking System.The system defaults to ON. However, sho uld you become stuck, try switchingthe AdvanceTracoff.
AUXILIARYINPUTJACK
The Auxiliar y Input Jack is located insidethe console bin. This allows you to plug and play auxiliary au dio devices, including MP3 Players. In Track mode, pressing SEEK willscroll through all trackson the disc.In Folder mode, pressing SEEK will scroll only through track s withina selectedfolder.
Bass/Treble
PressMENUuntil Bass/Treble settingsare displayed. Adjust usingtheup/down arrows.
Balance/Fade

Lift theside handleto adjustthe seatback. Usingthesame control willfold the seatback flat.Lifting the control(if equipped) located underneaththe seat cushion will adjusttheseat forwardor backward.
ACCESSINGTHE3RDROWSEATS
Ensure that the 2nd row seat adjustable head restraints (if equipped) are in the full down positionand no objectssuch as books,purses,orbriefcases areon thefloorin frontofthe 2ndrowseats beforefolding themdown. Placethe frontrow seatin aforward position toallow the 2nd row seatto be fully ”tumbled.”Liftthehandleonce tofoldtheseat back flat.Liftthe samehandlea secondtimeto “tumble” theseatforwardto allowaccesstothe 3rdrowseat.
STOWINGTHE3RDROWBENCH ORSPLITBENCHSEATINTUB
Movethe adjustablehead restraint (ifequipped)fully down.Ensurethat thestowage tubis clearof objects priorto cycling.
Fromthe rear ofthe vehicle,fold theseat backbypulling andholdingthe number1 strapwhilepushing theseatbackforward. Release thestrapafter theseatbackstarts rotatingforward.
Release the cushion latches by pulling the number 2strap while pullingon the long strap locatedon theseatback, torotate theseatall the wayinto thetubin thefloor.

MaxA/C Operation
Automatic Operation: Press AUTO for full automatic operation. Do not over ride A/C or recirculatedair.Set thetemperatureto60°F (16°C).
Override Operation:Select airdistribution. Select A/Cand recirculated air.Use recirculatedair with A/C toprovide colderairflow. Settemperature to 60°F(16°C). Setto highestfrontfan speedinitially, thenadjust tomaintain comfort.
ManualOverride Operation
Set desired ca bin temperature. Adjust a ny of the following for personal comf ort preferences: front fan speed, air flow direction, A/C, and recirculated air. Front fan speed, A/C, and recirculated airoverrides willnot turnoff the AUTO indicatorlight. Airflowdirection overrideswill turnoff theAUTO indicatorlight.
INTEGRATEDKEYHEAD TRANSMITTER(IKT)AND REMOTE ENTRYSYSTEM
Your vehiclecomes equipped withtwo speciallyprogrammed Integrated Keyhead Trans­mitters (IKTs).IKTs areboth a programmedignition keyanda remote keyless entr y trans­mitter. Handlethe IKT carefullywhen starting thecar toavoidaccidentally pressinganyof the remoteen trybuttons. Press onceto unlock the driver’s d oor. The interior lamps will illuminate.Press twicewithin threeseconds, tounlock allthedoors. Press once tolockall thedoors. Presstwice toconfirm allthe doors andliftgate areclosed. Onthefirst pressof , theturn lamps willflash. Onthe secondpress within 3seconds, the hornwill chirp andthe turnsignal lampswill flashonce ifall thedoors and the liftgate are closed. Press to activate the panic alarm.Press again or turn thekey in the ignitionto deactivate the panic alarm.Press twice within3 seconds to activate thecar finder feature; yourhorn will chirpand yourturn signallamps willflash. Itis recommended that this method beused to locateyour vehicle,rather thanusing thepanic alarm.Press twice within3seconds toopen theliftgate glass.Ensure thatyou keepthe IKT adhesivesecurity labelina safeplace forfuture reference. Replacements are only available throughan authorizeddealer.
POWERLIFTGATE

To open the power liftgate, push the button on the instrument panel, press remote entrytransmitter (IKT)
controltwice, orpush the buttonunder thecenter ofthe license pl ate lamp shield . For the best performance allowthe powersystem to open the liftgateafter pushingthe control.Manually pushingor pulling theliftgate mayactivate the systems obstacledetection feature and stop thepower system.Do notopen theliftgatein a garage or other enclosed area with a low ceiling.To closethe liftgate,press andrelease
thecontrol locatedin theleftrear quarterpanel orpull downtheliftgate afew inchestoactivate powerclosing. Keep clearof theliftgate when operating therear switch. Theliftgate can be reversed with a second presson a control buttonor remote entrytransmitter andcan be manuallyclosed atany time.
KEYLESSENTRYKEYPAD
Thekeyless entry keypadcan beused tolock or unlock the doors without usinga key.It canalsocontrol the memory seat , power mirrors andadjustable pedals (if equipped). Please consult yourOwner’s Guide.

ONE | HEADLAMPCONTROL
Turningthe headlampcontrol clockwiseto the firstposition turnson theparking lamps, instrument panellamps, licenseplate lamps,and the taillamps. Continuingto turn the headlampcontrol to thesecond positionturns onthe headlamps. Touse theautolamp light-sensitive, automaticon-off control for theheadlamps, turn theheadlamp control counterclockwise. Ifthe windshieldwipers areturned on fora fixedperiod oftime, the exteriorlamps willturn onwiththe headlampcontrol intheautolamp position.To turnautolampsoff, turn thecontrol clockwiseto theO(OFF) position.Toactivat ethehigh beams,simply pulltheturn signallever towardsyou tothesecond detent.Pullthe levertowardsyou againtodeactivate them.Usethe samelever toactivate the“Flashto Pass”feature.Pull thelevertowards youto thefirstdetent toactivateand release itto deactivate.
TWO | FOGLAMPCONTROL
Withthe ignitionon, thefoglamps canbe turnedon whenthe headlampcontrol isin the parkinglamp, headlamp,orautolamp position,and thehighbeams arenoton. Simplypull theheadlamp controltowardsyou toturn onthefoglamps. Thefoglampindicator lightwill illuminate.The foglampswill notoperate whenthehigh beamsare activated.
THREE | PANELDIMMER
Usethis controltoadjust thebrightnessof theinstrument panelandall applicableswitches inthe vehicle duringheadlamp andparking lampoperation. Movethe controlto thefull uprightposition, pastthe detent,to turnonthe interiorlamps.
FOUR | HOOD RELEASE
Toopen thehood,pull thehood releasehandleunder thebottom oftheinstrument panel, near thesteering column.Go to thefront ofthe vehicle andrelease theauxiliary latch locatedunder thefront centerof thehood.Use theprop rodto supporttheraised hood.
FIVE | SPEEDCONTROL
Foryour speedcontrol towork, youmust pressand releasethe ON button.Pressing and releasingthe OFF buttondisengages thesystem andturns itoff. Toset adesired speed, pressthe ONbutton, accelerateto thedesired speed,press andrelease theSET+button, thentake yourfoot offthe acceleratorpedal. Youcan increasespeed usingspeed control
bypressing andreleasing theSET+ buttonuntil youreach thedesired speed,increasing speedby 1mph (1.6km/h)with eachtap. Youcan decreasespeedin thesame wayusingthe SET-button.
Pressingthe RSM (resume)button willautomatically returnthe vehicletothe previouslyset speed.Todisengage thespeed control,press theOFF orCNCL buttonorpress thebrake.
SIX | TILTSTEERINGCOLUMN
To adjustthe steering wheel,push the adjustmentlever down tounlock the steering column.While the leveris down,tilt thesteering columnto yourdesired position.While holdingthe steering columnin place,pull thelever upto itsoriginal positionto lockthe steeringcolumn. Donot adjustwhile driving.

Rotate thecontrol towards youto decrease the speedof the wipers.For windshield washercontrol, pushthe endof thestalk briefly.With aquick pushand hold,the wipers willswipe threetimeswith washerfluid. If the lamp stays on or blinks, theOn Board Diagnostics Systemhas detected a malfunction.Drive in a moderate fashion (avoid heavy acceleration or deceleration)and haveyourvehicle servicedimmediately.

Inan emergency,applycontinuousforce tothebrakepedal. Donot pumpthebrakes.Any pulsationor mechanicalnoise youmayfeelor hearisnormal.Ifthelampstayson orcontinues toflash, haveyour vehicleserviced.Normal braking isstill functionalunlessthebrakewarninglampis alsoilluminated.

TIREPRESSURE
Safeoperation of yourTaurus Xrequires thatyour tires be properlyinflated. The Ford recommended inflation pressure isfound onthe Tire Labelor theCertification Label locatednear the frontdoor latch onthe driver's side.At leastoncea monthandbefore longtrips, inspect eachtire andcheck theairpressure witha digitalordial­type tire gauge.Don't forget the spare. Air pressure shouldbe checkedwhenthe tiresarecold. Inflatealltires to theinflation pressure recommendedby Ford Motor Company.As anadded safetyfeature, your vehiclehas been equippedwith a tirepressure monitoring system (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire pressure warning light when oneor more ofyour tiresis significantly under-inflated.
