SECURITY AND THE ENVIRONMENT
ELECTRICAL SECURITY
Check that the current in the mains connection where the machine is to be installed corresponds
to the power supply of the machine.
To avoid damaging the equipment, electrical shocks, fire or physical injury when you connect or
disconnect the equipment from the power supply, pull the plug firmly out of the mains socket holding
the plug, never the cable.
Always do this with dry hands.
Keep the power supply cable far from sources of heat. Do not put heavy objects on top of it or
change it.
Clean dust and dirt off the power supply cable regularly.
Do not open the machine; you could get an electric shock.
CAUTION
While installing the machine, make sure it is switched off and unplugged.
Do not open the machine. Touching the internal parts is dangerous and you could receive an electric
shock.
The machine must not be splashed or dripped on. Never place recipients with liquid inside on the
machine.
Do not place anything inside the machine.
LOCATION
Place the equipment on a horizontal surface with enough space around it to allow ventilation.
Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources and excessive dust.
Do not place the machine near magnetic fields or static electricity.
Do not use surfaces that vibrate or receive impact.
Do not pile machines on top of one another.
VENTILATION
Never block or cover the ventilation slits on the machine.
Do not expose it to direct sunlight or place it near sources of heat.
PERIODS OF INACTIVITY
When the machine is not going to be used for a long period, disconnect it from the mains.
If you are using an adapter, take into account that it will continue using electricity even if the machine
is switched off. If it is not going to be used for a long period, disconnect it from the mains.
THE ENVIRONMENT
To save energy, switch the machine off when you are not going to use it for a long time. The machine
could contain substances that are harmful to the environment or human health. To minimize the
effect of these substances the machine must be correctly managed and recycled when you decide
to dispose of it.
When you dispose of it remember: it cannot be thrown into a conventional rubbish bin.
If it contains or uses batteries, these must be disposed of separately.
The machine (without batteries) must be disposed of correctly. Put it in a container specially intended
for the collection of electronic and electrical appliances, at the dump or hand it over to the dealer
when you purchase similar equipment, so that the dealer can dispose of it corr

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SYMBOLS ON THE MACHINE*
The symbol formed by the expression “Class 1 laser product” written in a rectangle
indicates that visible or invisible laser radiation could be produced. Avoid direct expose to
the laser.
The symbol formed by a ray of lightening inside a triangle shows that the machine has
connection terminals or a circuit with areas with a current which could cause an electric
shock, even in normal working conditions.
The symbol formed by an exclamation mark in a triangle shows that the instruction manual
must be referred to for information on how the machine works and its use.
The symbol formed by one square inside another square shows that the machine has
double electrical insulation.
The European Community symbol shows that the machine complies with the current
European Union legislation, as well as its transposition to local legislation.
The symbol of a rubbish bin crossed out and over a horizontal line shows that when the
product is disposed of it must be done properly, placing it in a special selective electronic
and electrical equipment container or through a dealer when purchasing a similar product,
at no additional cost. It also shows that the machine was put on the market after 13th
August 2005 (European Community Directive 2012/19/EU of Electrical and Electronic
recycling, and its Spanish equivalent R.D.219/2013).
In accordance with what is set out in the aforementioned decree, FONESTAR is registered
in the RAEE (Registro de Aparatos Eléctricos y Electrónicos) in a special section REI
(Registro de establecimientos Industriales), with the entry number 001851.
The symbol RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) shows that the product has been
designed and manufactured restricting the use of certain dangerous materials (Directive
2011/65/EU on the restriction of certain dangerous substances in electrical and electronic
appliances, and its transferal to the Spanish regulations, R.D.219/2013).
*It is possible that some of these symbols do not appear on the machine.

DESCRIPTION
Models SM-3512U and SM-3520U are professional stereo mixers with 12 and 20 channels respectively and
they are suitable for live applications, PA for musical groups, boardrooms, schools, churches, etc.
Each input channel has a 3-band equalizer, gain, high pass filter, 2 auxiliary send, balance and output and
cue channel allocation. It has +48 V Phantom incorporated in the microphone inputs, selectable. It also
includes MP3 player with USB port for USB memory connection and SD/MMC card reader.
Furthermore, it has recording, headphone, monitor, main outputs and an alternative sub-mix output.
CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS
FRONT PANEL
1.- MIC: balanced microphone input, XLR connector jack. This connector has
selectable +48 V phantom. The pre-amplification circuit provides gain without
distortion and with a low level of noise.
2.- LINE: balanced line input, 6.3 mm stereo jack connector. Unbalanced signals
can also be connected.
3.- LOW CUT: pressing this button activates the high pass filter with a steep
attenuation slope. The cut off frequency is 75 Hz. This filter is used for reducing
electric noise and background noise on stages when microphones are used.
4.- GAIN: input gain control. For the microphone input, the input sensitivity can
vary between -10 and -60 dB and for the line input between +10 and -40 dB.
5.- EQ: tone controls. Equalizer that adjusts the bass, mid and treble level in the
corresponding channel. Controls with a gain of ±15 dB:
HIGH: flow pass filter with cut off frequency of 12 kHz.
MID: fband pass filter with central frequency of 2.5 kHz.
LOW: high pass filter with cut off frequency of 80 Hz.
6.- AUX: volume control for sending the pre-fader to the AUX bus.
7.- EFX: volume control for sending the post-fader to the EFX bus.
8.- PAN (BAL): control that adjusts the stereo image for the mono channel or the
stereo channel balance in the final mix.
9.- MUTE ALT 3-4: button for selecting between sending the channel output to
the bus from the MAIN mix and to the ALT 3-4 sub mix bus. In this case, it
mutes the signal in the MAIN bus.
10.- CLIP: LED indicator that lights up when the input signal level is too high. In this
case, the input level is decreased using the GAIN control until the indicator goes
off or only lights up occasionally.
11.- LED indicator that lights up when the PFL control is active.
12.- PFL: pre-fade listen. It sends the signal to the PFL bus and lets you activate the
monitoring of the channel signal through the STEREO LEVEL DISPLAY level
LED indicator, of the headphone output and the CONTROL ROOM output.
13.- FADER: sliding volume control for the output signal from the channel that is
sent to the MAIN mix bus or the ALT 3-4 sub mix bus, in accordance with the
selection made with the MUTE/ALT 3-4 control.

4.- LINE 9/10, 11/12: balanced/unbalanced line level inputs
with the possibility of connecting mono or stereo inputs,
2 x 6.3 mm (balanced) stereo jack connectors. If you
want to use channel as a mono channel, just use
channel L.

5.- STEREO AUX RETURNS 1/2: auxiliary inputs generally
used for connecting the return from the audio signals
sent to an external processor using the AUX SENDS 1
and 2 (EFX) outputs. They allow stereo or mono input
connection, using only the left input channel. 2 x 6.3 mm
mono jack connector.
NOTE: if you want to use the internal effects processor,
you should not connect anything to the AUX RETURN 2,
as it would cancel the internal processor.
16.- REC: line level recording output from the MAIN MIX output. The output signal level is controlled by the
MAIN MIX output volume, 2 x RCA connectors.
17.- TAPE: unbalanced line level input for directly allocating to the MAIN MIX output or CONTROL ROOM.
18.- AUX SENDS 1: signal output for the mix from the channels allocated to the AUX pre-fader auxiliary
sender, 6.3 mm mono jack connector.
19.- AUX SENDS 2 (EFX): signal output for the mix from the channels allocated to the EFX post-fader
auxiliary sender, 6.3 mm mono jack connector.
20.- MP3 MUTE/MP3 TO CH11/12: button for muting the
USB/SD/MP3 player output or sending it to the 11/12
stereo channel.
21.- SD: SD/MMC memory card connection port.
22.- USB: USB port for USB memory connection.
23.- USB/SD/MP3 player controls:
PLAY/PAUSE: for starting or pausing playback.
STOP: for stopping the current playback.
REPEAT: pressing this button once activates the
repetition of the song currently being played. After
pressing it a second time, it goes back to the default
repeat mode, REPEAT ALL.
REVERSE: this jumps to the beginning of the song
currently being played. Press this button consecutively to
select a previous song.
FORWARD: this jumps to the beginning of the following song. Press this button consecutively to select
one of the following songs.

6.- STEREO AUX RETURNS 1/2 (EFX): volume
control for the signals connected to the STEREO
AUX RETURNS 1 and 2 inputs .
27.- MAIN/ALT 3-4: for selecting the sending of the
STEREO AUX RETURNS 2 (EFX) input to the
M
AIN mixer bus or the ALT 3-4 sub mix bus.
28.- AUX SENDS 1/2 (EFX): volume control for the
AUX 1 and 2 (EFX) auxiliary sender outputs.
29.- POWER: LED power indicator.
30.- PHANTOM +48 V: for activating +48 V phantom
power supply for the XLR microphone inputs.
31.- LED indicator for activating phantom power
supply.
32.- STEREO LEVEL DISPLAY: LED indicators
showing the signal level from the MAIN MIX output
or the inputs sent to the PFL bus. Select the bus
to be monitored with the MAIN/PFL selector.
33.- CD/TAPE TO MAIN: for sending the TAPE INPUT to the MAIN MIX.
34.- SOURCE: selection buttons for the signal sent to the cue through headphones and to the CONTROL
ROOM output. The CD/TAPE input, the ALT 3-4 sub mix bus or the MAIN mix bus can be selected.
35.- MAIN/PFL: for selecting the signal sent to the LED STEREO LEVEL DISPLAY indicators.
36.- PHONES/CONTROL ROOM: volume control for the signal sent
to the cue through the headphones and to the CONTROL ROOM
output.
37.- ALT 3-4: sliding volume control for the ALT 3-4 output.
38.- MAIN MIX: sliding volume control for the MAIN MIX output.
39.- PHONES: stereo output for monitoring through headphones, 6.3
mm stereo jack connector.
BACK PANEL
1.- On/off switch.
2.- AC socket: for connecting the 100-240 V AC, 50-60 Hz power supply cable.
3.- MAIN L/R: balanced line level output for the MAIN mix bus, 2 x XLR connector.
4.- ALT 3-4: unbalanced line level output for the ALT 3-4 sub mix bus, 2 x 6.3 mm mono jack connector.
5.- CONTROL ROOM: unbalanced line level output for the PFL bus, 2 x 6.3 mm mono jack connector.
CONNECTION
- Before making any connection make sure that all the equipment has been switched off and disconnected
from the power supply.
- Check that all the sliding volume controls for each channel and the MAIN MIX level controls are at their
minimum.
- Connect the desired equipment to the channel inputs. Use the XLR connector if it is a microphone or
the jack connector if it is a line level input.
- Pre-fader AUX and post-fader EFX auxiliary senders can be used for connecting external audio
processors. The processor output can be connected to the mixer using the auxiliary returns STEREO
AUX RETURN 1 and 2 (EFX).
- Connect a USB device with FAT32 format or a SD/MMC memory card with MP3 files to the
corresponding port on the MP3 player and press the MP3 to CH 11/12 button.
- Connect the balanced MAIN output to a line level input on a power amp. If you want you can connect
the CONTROL ROOM output to auto amplified monitored speakers.
- Connect the equipment to the power supply.
- Switch the equipment on in the following order: Firstly, the peripheral equipment, then the SM-3512U
or SM-3520U mixer and lastly the power amp.
- Adjust the gain on each channel while watching the input signal level through the PFL bus and the
STEREO LEVEL DISPLAY LED indicator.
- Adjust the volume for each channel using the volume controls and send the signal to the MAIN mix bus
with the MUTE/ALT 3-4 selector.
- Adjust the output level from the MAIN mix bus using the MAIN MIX volume controls.

WARRANTY
This product has been tested and has passed the corresponding quality control prior to being put on the market.
FONESTAR guarantees the suitability of the product for its specified use during a period of 2 years from the delivery date and
commits itself to repair or substitute the goods as expressed in the Spanish law ‘La Ley General para la Defensa de los
Consumidores y Usuarios, Real Decreto Legislativo 1/2007 16 Noviembre.
The lack of conformity in the first six months after purchase, due to a manufacturing defect, will be rectified with no more than
showing the proof of purchase. After six months FONESTAR reserves the right to demand proof of the product being sold with
that problem.
This warranty does not include damage produced by: inappropriate use or negligence, accidents, worn out parts due to use,
breakages, burns, spilt liquids or other substances, excessive humidity, battery deterioration and internal manipulation of the
device, the software or its components by unauthorized persons, and in general any use that is unrelated to the nature and
purpose of the product.
If any service is needed during the warranty period because of lack of conformity, please contact the business or distributor where
the product was purchased in no more than 2 months after being conscious of the problem. It is only necessary to contact
FONESTAR if it is impossible or imposes an undue burden for them to solve it.
To benefit from this warranty it is necessary to show the proof of purchase with the date clearly visible, with no corrections or
crossing out.

law ‘La Ley General para la Defensa de los Consumidores y Usuarios, Real Decreto Legislativo 1/2007 16 Noviembre.
