FMS LINE SENSOR
INSTALLATION & PROGRAMMING NOTES
NOTE: To install the FMS line guide sensor you require:
i) Laptop ii) Programming lead (flash) iii) Flash software iv) Latest line sensor web guide programme eg.
BKS110_582271_V1.40.mhx v) BKS software vi) Programming lead (BKS) vii) General electrical & mechanical installation tools (including Allen
keys) viii) Chocolate block ix) Replacement web guide side plate with left/right selector pushbutton. x) FMS Line Sensor xi) Required Bracketry for Line Sensor xii) FMS Digital Line Sensor Operating Manual xiii) FMS Web Guide Operating Manual BKS 020 xiv) Installing the Flash & BKS Software onto a PC – Instructions.
1. Run the BKS software, double click on the file ‘BKS_Config.exe’.
2. The program will run and display the main terminal:
3. Disconnect the power from the Omega.
4. Remove the web guide side panel using.
5. Locate the RS232 connector and remove it (refer to the Web guide manual
page 7, point 5.3 showing the terminal arrangement). The orange RS232 connector has 3 pins. (It does take some time to locate the plug, as there is very little room to work with.)
6. Terminate to the RS232 plug (refer to the Web guide manual page 8, point 5.4
showing the Wiring diagram).
7. Plug the RS232 connector back into the web guide socket.

8. Power up the Omega.
9. Connect the laptop; coms port 1 to the ‘D-Sub-9’ connector.
10. Click on ‘Connect’ to display the current settings, typically:
11. Record the Offset centre L, Offset centre R and P value.
12. Disconnect the RS232 lead from the back of the laptop.
13. Close the BKS software.
14. Turn off web guide power.
15. Remove the opposite web guide side panel using.
16. Connect the download cable to the web guide. (Red connector). Refer to the
Web Guide Operating Manual BKS 020 pages 7 & 8.
17. Start ‘Flash 16’ software.
18. Search for the file to be down loaded. (Click on ‘Open’ and locate the
BKS110_582271_V1.40.mhx file)
19. Power up the web guide.

20. Download from the software – Full operation (D+E+B+P). This will prompt
when complete. (Target Microcontroller = MB90F497/G)
21. Power the web guide down and back up again.
22. Turn off the web guide power.
23. Disconnect the down load cable.
24. Close the ‘Flash 16’ software.
25. Reconnect the RS232 cable.
26. Power up the web guide.
27. Restart BKS Software.
28. Load default parameters.
29. Enter the values recorded at the beginning.
30. Power down the web guide.
31. Remove the RS232 lead.
32. Shut down the BKS software.
33. Install the additional sensor bracketry as per the mechanical layout drawings.
34. Attach the line guide sensor and standard edge guide sensor to the bracketry.
35. Install the ‘Left / Right’ sele ctor switch.
- Remove the fascia from the web guide (the same side that the FLASH connector is located).
- Remove the opposite side plate (the same side that the RS232 connector is located).
- Mount the replacement latch pushbutton in the above blanking plate.
- Remove the two wires connected to terminals 54 and 55 and make them safe by terminating to some chocolate block.
- Terminate the replacement latch pushbutton to terminals 54 and 55.
- Refasten the fascia and side plate to the web guide.
36. The installation works are now complete.
37. Connect the standard edge guide sensor to the web guide and check that the web guide, guides as before.
38. Check that the new left/right pushbutton works.

39. Disconnect the standard edge guide sensor and connect the new line guide sensor.
40. Refer to the FMS line sensor manual, setup the sensor and test the two operational modes:
- Guide to centre of the line.
- Guide to the edge of the line. Note: when testing the two modes check that the web guide is set to guide in to the correct edge using the left/right pushbutton.
41. Installation and testing is now complete.
