BUTTON FUNCTIONS
NEW GAME - Starts a new game. This button can be pressed anytime during game play.
ON ¥ DEAL ¥ SCROLL - Pressing this button wakes the game. You will also use this button to scroll up and down through the card columns. Press and hold this button to advance automatically down instead of scrolling. When starting a new game, press this button to deal the cards.
REPLAY - Replays the current game. This button can be pressed anytime during game play.
FREECELL - Places or selects cards in the FreeCell position.
HOMECELL - Places card in the HomeCell.
WIN % - Displays your current percentage of wins.
RESET - Restarts the computer and erases all scores.
SOUND - Turns the sound on and off.
CARD BUTTONS - Selects the cards that you want to move.
STARTING OUT
To begin playing FreeCell, wake the game by pressing the ON ¥ DEAL ¥ SCROLL button. Then press the NEW GAME button to shuffle and deal the cards. Remember, you must move all 52 cards to the HomeCells, stacking up cards of the same suit beginning with the Ace and ending with the King. Good Luck!
GAME AREAS
In FreeCell, the entire deck is dealt into eight columns of cards called the Card Stack or Tableau. Above the Card Stack or Tableau are four FreeCells (in the upper left-hand corner of the screen), and four HomeCells (in the upper right-hand corner of the screen).
VIEWING THE CARDS
You will view four rows of cards at a time. To view the higher or lower rows, use the ON ¥ DEAL ¥ SCROLL button to scroll up and down through the cards. The cards will advance up or down one row at a time.
¥ When you reach the top row, you will hear a tone and the scrolling
bar will point down.
¥ When you reach the bottom row, you will hear a tone and the
scrolling bar will point up.
SCROLLING BARS
Scrolling Bars are located on the right hand side of the screen. The tips of the Scrolling Bars will flash up or down, indicating that there are more cards in that direction.
SELECTING A CARD
Each of the Card buttons on the console corresponds to a card in the bottom row. To select a card, press the Card button under the card you want to move. The selected card will flash on and off. Press once again to deselect the card.
MOVING A CARD
A card may be moved to any of the other seven card columns, any of the four FreeCells, or the four HomeCells.
Once you have selected a card, use the HomeCell, FreeCell, or Card buttons to move the card to the desired location. If it is a valid move, the card will automatically be placed in the new location. Otherwise, INVALID icon will be appear on the screen and the card will be deselected.
MOVING A STACK OF CARDS
You may move a stack of cards from one column to another if there are enough open cells, the cards are in descending order and they alternate colors. To move a stack of cards, press and hold the Card button below the card stack you wish to move. Then press the Card button below the desired location. The stack will automatically move to the new column.
FREECELLS
The FreeCells are storage locations for cards. Only one card is allowed in each free cell at a time. Cards in the free cells maybe moved to the HomeCells, or back to the Card Stack.
To move a free cell card to another location, press the FreeCell button to toggle through the four cards. The selected card will flash on and off. Then press a Card button or the HomeCell button to move the card to the desired location.
HOMECELLS
Each HomeCell is marked with the symbol of a suit. You must build the HomeCells by suit, starting with the Ace and ending with the King.
PLAYING THE GAME
Your goal is to build up the HomeCells from Ace to King, one HomeCell for each suit. To begin playing, use the ON ¥ DEAL ¥ SCROLL button to scroll all the way up. This will display the bottom row of cards. Start by moving cards from the bottom row to the HomeCells, if possible, or the FreeCells.
BASIC RULES
¥ The four HomeCells are built in suits from Ace to King. The first
cards to be placed in the HomeCells are the Aces, followed by 2, 3,
4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen and King. ¥ Aces can always be moved to the HomeCells. ¥ You may move any card from a FreeCell, or from the bottom row of
cards, to a HomeCell. (The selected card must be one greater in
rank and belong to the same suit as the card it is placed on.) ¥ You may move any card from a FreeCell, or from the bottom row of
cards, to the bottom row of another column. (The selected card must
be one lower in rank and a different color than the card is placed
on.)
WIN %
During the game, you may press the WIN % button to view the number of games you have won.
NEW GAME
The NEW GAME button may be pressed anytime during game play. After it is pressed, the cards will be reshuffled and the NEW GAME icon will appear on the screen. Press the ON ¥ DEAL ¥ SCROLL button to deal the cards and begin the new game.
REPLAY
The Replay feature allows you to replay your last game with the same layout of cards. Press the Replay button to shuffle and deal the cards. The Replay button may be pressed any time during game play.
GAME OVER
The game is over when there are no legal moves left.
SLEEP MODE
FreeCell will go to sleep after two minutes of inactivity. To wake the game, press the ON ¥ DEAL ¥ SCROLL button.
RESETTING YOUR GAME
In the unlikely event that Radica FreeCell should stop working, you can reset the unit. (You will lose your current game when you reset the unit.) Insert a thin, blunt instrument (such as a paper clip) into the hole marked Reset on the front of the unit. Press gently and release.
¥ When the game has restarted, press the ON ¥ DEAL ¥ SCROLL
button. Then press the NEW GAME button to shuffle and deal the
cards.
BATTERY INSTALLATION
This game is powered by two (2) AA (LR6) batteries. ¥ Using a screwdriver, loosen the screw until the battery compartment
door can be removed. ¥ Insert two AA (LR6) batteries (we recommend alkaline) as indicated
inside the battery compartment. ¥ Replace the battery compartment door and tighten the screw with a
screwdriver. Do not over-tighten.
ADULT SUPERVISION IS RECOMMENDED WHEN CHANGING BATTERIES.
CAUTION
¥ As with all small batteries, the batteries used with this game should
be kept away from small children who might still put things in their
mouths. If a battery is swallowed, consult a physician immediately. ¥ Be sure you insert the battery correctly and always follow the game

IMPORTANT: Before returning the unit for repair, test it with fresh alkaline batteries. Even new batteries may be defective or weak and low battery power is a frequent cause of unsatisfactory operation.
