USING THE SILENCE FEATURE
The Silence Featu re is for your conve nience only and wi ll not correct a CO p roblem. Always c heck your home for
a potential probl em after any alarm . Failure to do so can r esult in injury o r death.
The Silence Feature is in tended to temporar ily silence your CO Ala rm’s alarm horn while you co rrect the problem —it will
not correct a CO proble m. While the alarm is silen ced it will continue to m onitor the air for CO.
To Activate the Silen ce Feature: Pres s and hold the Silence bu tton until the hor n is silent.
Once you activate t he Silence Featu re: the Silence cycle w ill last approximatel y 4 minutes.
NOTE: After init ial 4-minute Silence c ycle, the CO Alarm re- evaluates presen t CO levels and respond s accordingly. If CO
levels remain potentiall y dangerous -or st art rising higher- the hor n will start sound ing again.
While the detect or is silenced:
If the CO Alarm... This means...
Is silent for only 4 minutes , then starts sou nding loudly—4 be eps, pause, 4 beeps, pa use CO levels are still potentially dangerous.
If the CO Alarm... This means...
3
Remains silent after yo u pressed the Silence b utton CO levels are dropping.

WHAT IS CO?
CO is an invisible, odorle ss, tasteless ga s produced when foss il fuels do not burn compl etely, or are exposed to he at (usually fire). Elec trical appliance s typically do not pro duce CO.
These fuels include: Wood, coal, charcoal, oil, na tural gas, gasolin e, kerosene, and propa ne.
Because CO may dissipa te by the time an investiga tor arrives, it may be d ifficult to locat e the source of CO. BR K Brands,
Inc. shall not be obligate d to pay for any carbon mon oxide investigatio n or service call.
Fuel-burning appliances like: portable heater, gas or woo d burning fireplace, ga s kitchen range or co oktop, gas clothe s dryer.
Damaged or insufficient venting: corroded or disconnected water heater vent pipe, leaking chimney pipe or flue, or cracked heat exchanger, blocked or clogged chimney opening.

SYMPTOMS OF CO P OISONING
The following symptoms ma y be related to CAR BON MONOXID E POISONIN G and should be discus sed with ALL membe rs of the household.
Mild exposure: Head aches, running nose, s ore eyes, often des cribed as “flu” -like sy mptoms;
Medium exposure: Dizziness, drowsiness, vomiting;
Extreme Exposure: Unconsciousness, brain damage, death.
Many cases of report ed CARBON MO NOXIDE POI SONING indica te that while victims ar e aware they are not well, t hey become so
disoriented they are una ble to save themselves b y either exiting the buil ding or calling for assi stance.
Some individuals are mor e sensitive to CO than o thers, including pe ople with cardiac or re spiratory probl ems, infants, unbo rn babies, pregnant m others, or elderly p eople
can be more quickly and seve rely affected by C O. Members of sensiti ve populations shoul d consult their doct ors for advice on tak ing additional prec autions.
THE FOLLOWING CO NDITIONS CAN RESULT IN TR ANSIENT CO SITUATIONS:
1. Excessive spillage or re verse venting of fuel a ppliances caused by ou tdoor conditions s uch as:
• Wind direc tion and/or veloci ty, including high, gust y winds. Heavy air in t he vent pipes (cold/h umid air with extended p eriods between cy cles).
