CONTROL BOX INSTALLATION
Step 1: After the replace has been framed into position begin determining the control box location. Locate the module
wire harness (#77115) and battery pack harness (#VCS-ECOBBUEXT32) protruding outside of the valve box. Refer to page 16 Fig. 14.
Step 2: Connect the module wire harness #77115 to #77113 wire harness (10’ wire harness from parts box).
Step 3: Connect the #VCS-ECOBBUEXT32 to the other #VCS-ECOBBUEXT120 (10’ battery pack wire harness from
parts box).

Step 4: Remove the control box from the components parts carton. The replace is supplied with 10-feet of wiring for the
control box switch installation. Find a suitable location within a close proximity of the replace for convenience of operation
Fig. 16 Control box mounting plate
and mount the control box upright and level as shown in Fig. 14 on page 16. Use Figs 15 & 16 for dimensional reference. CAUTION: Ensure all switches are in the OFF position. “I” indicates ignite/ON and “O” indicates OFF. The switch on the far right is a “Learn” switch. It does not turn ON and OFF, it remains in its original position.
Step 5: Remove the four (4) outer screws from each corner inside the cover plate shown in Fig. 15 and remove the outer face plate and nylon latch. This will expose the mounting plate. See Fig. 16. CAUTION: Do not remove the two center screws from the cover plate. This will release the entire switch box wiring from inside the junction box and make it difcult to reinstall.
Step 6: Install the control box mounting plate into framing members/nish material and secure into place. Replace the mounting plate ush with wall materials or allow for depth of wall material to slide under the four corners of the plate. The mounting plate will then be ush with the wall.
10
Step 8: Reinstall the control box cover/face plate and nylon latch back on the control box mounting plate.
Step 9: Turn (rotate) the nylon latch up or down (out of the way) of the battery box drawer (Fig. 16; page 17).
Step 10: Pull the battery box drawer out of the control box and install the (4) C-size batteries (included) in the battery
pack. Follow the diagram inside for battery direction.
Step 11: Look for the 2-PIN connector at the back of the battery pack and the mating 2-PIN connector inside the control box. Insert the male connetor into the female connector then carefully install the battery pack drawer back into the control box. Move the nylon latch over edge of the battery box drawer to secure it into place. See Fig. 18. Note: Careful not to pinch the wires when installing the battery box drawer back into the control box.
CONTROL BOX INSTALLATION
Step 7: Feed the wire harrness (# 77113) up to the control box and attach the Molex connectors from the module wire
harness to the control box wire harness. At the same time, connect the 2-PIN connector (#VCS-ECOBBUEXT32) from module wire harness to the 2-PIN connector inside the control box. See Fig. 17. Refer to page 16 Fig. 14.

INSTALLING MEDIA
Open the media box and install the glass media as shown is Figs. 24 & 25. Place media reglass into the trough area rst as shown in Fig. 24. Use the remaining media to ll the burner pan equally on both sides. After lling the trough reinstall the mesh hood overtop of the pilot area.
Keep media in burner pan the same level as the trough to allow the burner area to appear as one complete burner pan.
IMPORTANT: Media can only be placed in the trough and burner pan area. No media is to be place into the shaded area shown in Fig. 26 on page 22.
CAUTION: Ensure there is no media in the ignition hole area. The burner tube gas ignites in this area to light the replace. Media in this area could cause delayed ignition.
The replace requires ½”-¾” large broken reglass to be installed into the burner trough and burner pan. Use the table below to assist in determining the amount of media needed for your specic model.

This replace is equipped with LED lighting. Preparation for the LED lighting a must be planned before the replace nish materials are installed. After the replace is set in its nal location the LED lighting will need to be installed and
tested before nishing materials are applied. You will need to provide the following:
(1) 120VAC GFCI outlet double gang junction box with a weatherproof cover. Provides power to LED lights and gas valve system. Follow local electrical codes for installation.
A RGB control box with switches is provided with the replace. It must be installed within the framing parameters of the replace.
Step 1: Install the GFCI outlet double gang junction box with a weatherproof cover on the opposite side of the inlet gas supply. Note: This is not a requirement; however, with the gang box on the opposite side of inlet will create more room for LED installation. Fig. 15 shows GFCI gang box installed.
Step 2: Find mounting location for the GFCI gang box. Fig. 14 shows at area underneath burner pan. Mount box underneath the burner pan, below the square (cutout) hole area. Fig. 15 shows the GFCI outlet double gang junction box with a weatherproof cover mounted underneath the replace.

Step 7: Remove the screws from the “bottom end” of the burner pan area. The bottom end part lls the space between the burner pan and the replace side panel. It is held into place with three (3) screws. See Fig. 22. First remove the two inside screws, then the screw securing the side wall. Lift up the area where the two screws were and push down where the single screw was, then lift the bottom end out of the replace.
Step 8: With bottom end removed, insert the LED channel assembly female connector (protruding through the wire grommets) to the LED male connector 77110. Note: The male end of the LED connector will only insert into the female connector in one direction. Once locked in position, screw the threaded cap of the female connector securely over the male connector. See Fig. 23.
Step 9: Attach 77110 to 77111 using the molex connectors. After connecting the LED lights into the 77111
wire harness insert the 12-volt adapter 77102 with ¼” terminals) into the (red & black wires) of LED wire harness. Plug the 12-volt adapter into the 120VAC GFCI box with weather proof cover. See Fig. 26, page 21.

See the instructions supplied with the key valve for more specic details. Note: Be sure to leak test all tting before operation. Fig. 6 shows an example of a typical installation.
Fig. 5 Key valve components.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Only non-combustible materials should come in direct contact with any part of the re pit. Underneath should be non-combustible or a at level combustible surface according to the clearances specied in this manual.
2. Refer to the NFPA54 (National Fuel Gas Code) for proper pipe sizing. See Table 4 on page 5.
3. Determine the size of the round or square re pit you are preparing to install (Refer to page 4).
4. You must provide a round or square cut-out opening to place the re pit into the non-combustible enclosure. Do not exceed the maximum opening from Table 1, dimension B.
5. Follow the local code requirements for the gas type being used. This re pit should be installed in accordance with local codes and ordinances or in the absence of local codes, with the latest National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1 NFPA54 or CSA B149.1, Natural and Propane Installation Code in Canada.
6. Fire pits create high temperatures, it is very important to have any combustibles at a safe distance.
7. CAUTION: A minimum of 18 square inches of cross ventilation (per side) is required to keep the inside of the enclosure dry. We recommend installation of a VENT-KIT-6x12SS. See accessory page 14.
8. These products are designed for outdoor use only. Not approved for any indoor use.
9. This re pit is designed to have lava rock completely covering the spur burner, so that the burner is not visible. Do not cover more than 1” above the top of the covered burner. When purchasing Lava Rock use minimum of 1” to 2” diameter as a base to ll the burner pan. DO NOT COVER THE IGNITION HOOD WITH ANY ROCK OR MEDIA.
10. Gas lines and ttings must be installed in to the non-combustible structure. All gas connections must be leak tested before installation of the re pit. Soapy water leak detection is required before regular use of the re pit.
11. Do not use material that will absorb moisture over time and will not release this moisture quickly. Moisture can boil in this material and can rapidly break apart and cause damage or personal injury.
12. Never leave any other combustible material on top of the re pit. This could cause unsafe operation of this system and damage to the component that will not be covered under our warranty.
INSTALLING BURNER ORIFICE (OAS)
Locate the burner nipple underneath the burner pan. Ensure the nipple from on the spur burner has gas rated Teon tape wrapped around the threads. Thread the OAS (orice air shutter) on to the nipple of the burning spur clockwise manner. Secure into position. See Fig. 4.

HIGH ELEVATION INSTALLATION
This appliance is listed for elevations from 0- 4500 feet in Canada and the U.S. If elevation exceeds 4500 feet it may be necessary to decrease the input rating by changing the existing burner orice to a smaller size. Input should be reduced 4% for each 1000 feet beyond the 4500 feet above sea level. Check with your local gas utility for assistance in determining the proper orice in your location. In some cases the heating value may already be reduced and downsizing the orice may not be necessary. Refer to NFPA54 Table E.1.1(d) for high altitude orice sizing.
The re pit can be installed on a at, stable surface, away from any combustible materials. Install re pit on any level, outdoor non-combustible, at stable surface or a combustible oor according to the clearances specied in this manual. NOTE: Do not place re pit directly on grass, dirt, or rocks as this may prevent proper ventilation (Fig. 3). Ensure proper
water drainage is also incorporated into the re pit enclosure.
HARD PIPING TO FIRE PIT WITHOUT GAS PROXIMITY NOTE: Refer to the NFPA54 (National Fuel Gas Code) for proper pipe sizing. See gas line sizing chart on page 6 as a
reference.
1. Turn OFF gas supply system. NOTE: All gas connections (except for brass to brass) require the following. Clean pipe
threads using either a wire brush or steel wool. Apply pipe sealant to the ttings before making any connection.
2. BE CAREFUL! Ensure all gas connections are snug, but do not over tighten!
3. Consult a plumber for proper installation to ensure you are providing adequate gas supply for your application.
4. The primary gas shut-off (not supplied) will require a ½” male ared tting to enable connection of the stainless steel ex gas line supplied with the re pit.
5. Do not place an LP tank inside any re pit enclosure. Locate all propane (LP) tanks outside the enclosure.
6. To prevent performance problems in Propane (LP) re pits, do not use a Propane tank less than 100lbs. capacity.

INSTALLATION OF LAVA ROCK/MEDIA INTO BURNER PAN
Install lava rock into the burner pan. Ensure the lava rock is a 1 to 2-inch diameter for proper operation. Note: Do not pour Lava Rock directly from bag. It should be placed naturally and NOT packed in tight. Loose tting is important to ensure robust ames. Be sure rocks are free of any excessive dust. This prevents the burner pan weep holes from being plugged and holding water.
IMPORTANT: Do not place rock over top or under the screen cover. The
screen must be free of any debris to ensure proper lighting of burner and good ame sense (See g. 6).
Cover the burner completely with media but do not make the depth greater than 1-inch overtop of the burner portholes.
Do NOT cover the screen mesh with any rock or glass. It must be free an any debris to operate properly.
Fig.6 Keep screen cover exposed
THERMOCOUPLE ALIGNMENT
It is important check the thermocouple to enure it is properly aligned overtop of the rainshield cutout area and that it did not move during shipping. Before lighting remove the screen cover of the ignition hood to burner and visually look at the thermocouple tip. The tip must be centered and protruding past the cutout area to ensure it remains hot during operation of your re pit. Replace the screen cover and follow the operating instructions after inspection.

It is important to locate the battery pack where it is easy to access for battery replacement and service. The best location is on the outside wall of the re pit enclosure. A plastic junction box is provided for the installation of the battery pack and a weather-proof cover to protect it from the outside elements.
1. Install (4) AA batteries in to the battery pack by sliding the cover off as shown in Fig. 4. Double check to ensure the switch on front of the battery pack is in the latching solenoid position. Install the battery pack cover plate by snapping it into place on the back side of the white cover plate as shown in Fig 5. Note: Be sure the batteries are installed positive-to-positive and negative-to-negative. If one battery is installed backwards the system will not operate.
2. Install the junction box and secure into position. Note: Junction box should be ush with the nish materials to ensure weatherproof cover/lid has room (clearance) to open. See Fig. 6, page 7.
3. The re pit has 12-feet of wiring outside of the valve box underneath the burner pan. One end of the wiring has a 4-pin connector. The others are (2) two individual wires (one black and one red) with ¼” female connectors.
4. Feed the wire ends into the junction box and out the front (approximately 4-6 inches) to connect to battery pack (See wiring diagram on page 17, Fig.13).
5. Open the lid of the weatherproof cover and install the white cover plate with battery pack attached into the weather proof cover and rubber gasket.
6. Connect the wires from the junction box to the battery pack. Plug the white 4-pin connector into back of the battery pack and connect the two ¼” female spade wires matching color, red-to-red and black-to-black. Leave enough “play” in the wires to allow the weatherproof cover/lid and be screwed to the junction box.
7. Secure the weatherproof cover/lid to the two outside holes at the top and bottom of the junction box.
8. Secure the white cover plate and battery pack to the center holes at the top and bottom of the junction box.
9. After the re pit is installed into the enclosure, the burner and control system should be tested before the media (lava rock) is installed. Note: Flame height will be very low until media is placed into the burner pan covering the burner.
Install (4) AA batteries into the battery pack and ensure the slide switch is in the Latching Solenoid position on the front side. See Fig. 4. Snap the battery pack into the cover plate then set it aside. See Fig. 5.

INSTALLATION OF LAVA ROCK/MEDIA INTO BURNER PAN
Install lava rock/media into the burner pan. Ensure media is minimum of 1 to 2-inch diameter for proper operation. Note: Do not pour lava rock directly from bag. Media should be placed by hand and NOT packed tight. Loose tting is important to ensure robust ames. Ensure rocks are free of excessive dust. This prevents burner pan weep holes from being plugged and holding water. IMPORTANT: Do not place media over top or under screen cover. Screen must be free of any debris to ensure proper lighting of burner and to allow proper heating of thermocouple. Cover the burner completely with media but do not make the depth greater than 1-inch overtop of the burner port holes.

Fig. 8 Removing the cover from metal box.
LEARNING THE REMOTE CONTROL TO THE MODULE
The re pit is unique that it comes standard with one remote controlled transmitter. The handheld remote is shipped with this system are already learned (programmed) to the module inside the control box. Additional transmitters can be learned to this electronic module; up to a total of three transmitters are available. Contact Firegear to discuss additional transmitter options or see the accessory page of this instruction manual.
Learning the new transmitters is simple, but will require pressing the learn button on the module. You should learn any new transmitters before the nal installation of the re pit. Follow the steps below:
1. Remove the two screws securing the cover on the control box (See Fig. 8). The cover will slide down exposing the gas valve and control module.
2. Find the black module attached to the inside of the control box. Locate the “Learn Button” on the bottom of the module.
3. Once the Learn button is located, press and release the button once. You will hear a beep indicating that the module is ready to receive a transmitter code (See Fig. 9)
4. Take the transmitter and press the OFF button. You will hear a series of rapid beeps indicating the module has accepted the new code.
NOTE: A maximum of three (3) codes can be programmed to the module. After a total of three (3) codes have been programmed the memory is full and will not accept any additional codes. To clear all codes, press and hold the learn button for 10 seconds. The module will beep three (3) times indicating the memory is clear of all codes. After codes have been cleared see to Step #3 above to re-learn transmitter.

NOTICE
Firegear Outdoors re pits are constructed and tested to follow the rigid ANSI standards for gas appliances and
manufactured safely providing dependable and certied products. If these re pits are not installed according to the
installation manual (i.e. not providing ventilation, not providing proper drainage, installing re pits below grade or
modifying the existing products from a normal installation) Firegear Outdoors cannot be responsible if the product does
not operate as designed.
Modifying the re pit directly out of the carton will void the warranty and nullify the UL listing it was certied for. Before
you consider creating your own custom design with a certied product ensure you contact Firegear Outdoors to consult
the installation before proceeding. If you move forward and modify a product without consulting, Firegear Outdoors
cannot be responsible if the product does not operate as designed.

INSTALLATION OF FIRE PIT INTO AN APPROVED ENCLOSURE
REQUIREMENTS
1. Only non-combustible materials should come in direct contact with any part of the re pit. Underneath area should be non-combustible or a at level combustible surface according to the clearances specied in this manual..
2. Refer to the NFPA54 (National Fuel Gas Code) for proper pipe sizing. See gas pipe sizing chart on page 7.
3. Determine the size of the round re pit you are preparing to install (Refer to page 4).
4. You must provide a round opening cut-out opening to place the at disc onto the non-combustible enclosure. Do not exceed the maximum opening from Table 1, dimension B located on page 4.
Refer to page 4.
7. CAUTION: A minimum of 18 square inches of cross ventilation (per side) is required to keep the inside of the
enclosure dry. We recommend installation of a VENT-KIT-6x12. See accessory section.
8. These products are designed for outdoor use only. Not approved for any indoor use.
9. This re pit is designed to have lava rock completely covering the spur burner, so that the burner is not visible. Do not cover more than 1” above the top of the burner. When purchasing lava rock use 1” to 2” diameter as a base to cover the at disc.
13 . Ensure proper water drainage is also incorporated into the re pit enclosure.

INSTALLATION OF LAVA ROCK/MEDIA INTO BURNER PAN
Install lava rock into the burner pan. Ensure the lava rock is a 1-inch diameter for proper operation.
The screen must be free of any debris to ensure proper
lighting of burner and good ame sense (See Fig. 17).
Cover the burner completely with media but do not make the depth greater than 1-inch overtop of the burner portholes.
Do NOT cover the screen mesh with any rock or glass. It must be free an any debris to operate properly.
IGNITOR ALIGNMENT
It is important check that the ignitor probes be properly aligned overtop of the burner port holes and did not move during shipping. Use the Fig.16 as a guide. Before lighting remove the screen cover of the ignition hood to burner and ensure the thermocouple is directly overtop of a burner port hole. The sparking probes and the thermocouple must be in the path of a ame to ignite the gas for proper ignition of the ame. Replace the screen cover and follow the operating instructions.

REQUIREMENTS
1. Only non-combustible materials should come in direct contact with any part of the re pit. Underneath area should be non- combustible or a at level combustible surface according to the clearances specied in this manual.
2.
Refer to the NFPA54 (National Fuel Gas Code) for proper pipe sizing. See gas pipe sizing chart on page 7.
3. Determine the size of the round re pit you are preparing to install (Refer to page 4).
4.
You must provide a round opening out to place the at disc onto the non-combustible enclosure. Do not exceed the
maximum opening from Table 1, dimension B located on page 4.
Refer to page 4.
7. Normal operation of the re pit is with a battery pack that is supplied with your system (Fig 18). The battery box has 12-feet of black sleeved wire that is to be passed through the junction box provided. This wire should not be cut or spliced and the junction box can be placed in the facing of the vertical nish of the re pit, if you place the wire under ground you should install those wires into an approved protective conduit/sleeve material.
8. Fire pit should never be left unattended while in operation. It should always be a safe distance from all trees and combustible landscape materials.
10. Construction of the nished re pit should be stable and solid. From the bottom of the control box that houses the gas valve and module, it should be a according to specications on Table #1. NOTE: Proper drainage is critical to ensure that water does not damage gas valve and components. Never install re pit below grade.
11. CAUTION: The re pit enclosure MUST have a minimum ventilation of 18 square inches on each side to keep the
inside of the nished enclosure dry.
We recommend installation of a VENT-KIT-6x12. See accessory section.
12. The insulation square pad provided with the re pit is to be placed foil up toward the bottom of pan on top of the valve box.
13. Never ll the cavity under and around the valve box with any material, this is a provided air space necessary for ventilation.
14. These products are designed for outdoor use only. Not approved for any indoor use.
15. This re pit is designed to have decorative rock, lava rock/media covering the burner, so the burner is not visible. Optional concrete logs can be added to consumers taste. Decorative rock is not provided. When purchasing decorative rock use minimum of 1 to 2-inch diameter rock as a base to ll the burner pan. DO NOT COVER THE IGNITION HOOD WITH
ANY ROCK OR MEDIA.
16. Gas lines and ttings must be installed in to the non-combustible structure. All gas connections must be leak tested before installation of the re pit. Soapy water leak detection is required before regular use of the re pit.
17. Do not use material that will absorb moisture over time and will not release this moisture quickly. Moisture can boil in this material and can rapidly break apart and cause damage or personal injury.
18. Never leave any other combustible material on top of the re pit. This could cause unsafe operation of this system and damage to the component that will not be covered under the warranty.

IGNITOR ALIGNMENT
It is important check that the ignitor probes be properly aligned overtop of the burner port holes and did not move during shipping. Use the Fig.19 as a guide.
INSTALLATION OF LAVA ROCK/MEDIA INTO BURNER PAN
Install lava rock into the burner pan. Ensure the lava rock is a 1-inch diameter for proper operation.
The screen must be free of any debris to ensure proper
lighting of burner and good ame sense (See Fig. 20).

LEARNING THE REMOTE CONTROL TO THE MODULE
This re pit comes standard with one remote controlled transmitter. The handheld remote is shipped with this system already learned (programmed) to the module inside the control box. Additional transmitters can be learned to this electronic module; up to a total of three transmitters are available. Contact Firegear to discuss additional transmitter options or see the accessory page of this instruction manual.
Learning the new transmitters will require pressing the learn button on the module. You should learn any new transmitters before the nal installation of the re pit. Follow the steps below:
1. Remove the two screws securing the cover on the control box (See Fig. 28).

Combining Linear Burners
NOTICE: Please be aware that when you are combining two linear burners together it is extremely important to size the
gas line for the total Btu’s of both burners together.
The FPB-36L, FPB30L and FPB24L Series re pits can be combined in various combinations to create a longer length re
pit look. This is accomplished by removing the extension bracket (Fig. 1) outlined in the drawing above from each linear burner you are wanting to combine together. The extension bracket has the angled end and is secured with two screws on each side. Simply remove the screws and slide the extension bracket off from each burner. Butt the two non-pilot ends of each burner tight together and keep them level to provide the appearance of one long linear burner (Fig. 2).

Fig. 3 Clearance to Combustibles (Not to be used in an enclosed space)
WARNING: Proper clearances from combustible materials must be maintained from all sides, top and bottom of this appliance. Use the specications listed on pages 4 and 5 for proper clearance to combustibles.
Description: These re pits are designed to be installed into a non-combustible enclosure. They are a “drop-in” style system to make installation quick and convenient. Due to the length of the thermocouple wire the control panel must be mounted within 24” of the burnerpan. The re pit uses a thermocouple manual safety ignition (TMSI) system. This system has a battery operated manual Piezo ignition to light the burner, then uses a thermocouple to keep the re pit burning during operation. If the ame for any reason is blown out or extinguished the thermocouple will cool down and shut the gas supply OFF. Media (not supplied) is required inside the burner pan for operation (See page 12).
Firegear Outdoors re pits are constructed and tested to follow the rigid ANSI standards for gas appliances and manufactured safely providing dependable and certied products. If these re pits are not installed according to the installation manual (i.e. not providing ventilation, not providing proper drainage, installing re pits below grade or modifying the existing products from a normal installation) Firegear Outdoors cannot be responsible if the product does not operate as designed.
Modifying the re pit directly out of the carton will void the warranty and nullify the CSA listing it was certied for. Before you consider creating your own custom design with a certied product ensure you contact Firegear Outdoors to consult the installation before proceeding. If you move forward and modify a product without consulting, Firegear Outdoors cannot be responsible if the product does not operate as designed.

REQUIREMENTS
1. Only non-combustible materials should come in direct contact with any part of the re pit. Underneath area should be non-combustible or a at level combustible surface according to the clearances specied in this manual.
2. Refer to the NFPA54 (National Fuel Gas Code) for proper pipe sizing. Determine the size of the re pit you are preparing to install (Refer to page 7).
3. Determine the size of the re pit you are preparing to install (Refer to page 4).
4. You must provide a rectangular opening cutout to place the re pit into the non-combustible enclosure. Refer to Table 1, dimension A.
7. CAUTION: A minimum of 18 square inches of cross ventilation (per side) is required to keep the enclosure dry. See Fig 4 on page 6.
8. These products are designed for outdoor use only. Not approved for any indoor use.
9. This re pit is designed to have Firegear Outdoors lava rock or glass media completely covering the burner tube, so that the burner is not visible. Do not cover more than 1” above the top of burner. Use lava rock a minimum of 1” diameter as a base to ll the burner pan. DO NOT USE STONE OR RIVER ROCK.
10. Gas lines and ttings must be installed in to the non-combustible structure. All gas connections must be leak tested before installation of the re pit. Soapy water leak detection is required before regular use of the re pit.
11. Do not use media that will absorb moisture over time and will not release this moisture quickly. Moisture can boil in this material and can rapidly break apart and cause damage or personal injury. See Caution at bottom of page 3.
12. Never leave any combustible material on top of the re pit. This could cause unsafe operation of this system and damage to the component that will not be covered under our warranty.
13. Ensure proper water drainage is also incorporated into the re pit enclosure.
