AUTOMATIC DAMPER ADAPTOR
Model: ADA-1
The ADA-1 Automatic Damper Adapter is intended for use with boilers and water heaters having a 24V automatic vent or flue damper. The ADA-1 simplifies the control wiring connections to Field Controls combustion air/venting equipment by using the appliance’s damper control cable. The appliance’s damper cable is simply plugged into the ADA-1’s corresponding receptacle, and the ADA-1’s damper cable is plugged into the damper’s receptacle instead. The ADA-1’s control cable is then connected to the combustion air/venting equipment’s three control terminals. The three control terminals and the control cable’s three corresponding terminals are clearly and identically marked for easy, foolproof field connection.
Upon a call for heat, the appliance’s burner control circuit sends out a call for heat to the automatic damper, which must open before allowing the burner to fire. This call for heat is intercepted by the ADA-1, and sent to the combustion air/venting equipment first. The combustion air/venting equipment will then activate, and upon closing of the safety switch (or switches) built into the combustion air/venting equipment, the call for heat is then sent on to the automatic damper.
INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect power to the appliance.
2. Mount the ADA-1 in a location near the appliance damper, where the appliance damper control cable will reach the receptacle inside the ADA-1, and where the ADA-1 damper cable will reach the damper, by installing screws through the back of the ADA-1.
WARNING: DO NOT INSTALL SCREWS INTO A RACEWAY OR OTHER ENCLOSURE ON THE APPLIANCE WHERE ELECTRICAL WIRING MAY BE PRESENT!
WARNING: DO NOT OBSTRUCT ANY CAUTION OR WARNING LABLES ON THE APPLIANCE!
3. Disconnect the appliance damper control cable, and reconnect it to the receptacle inside the ADA-1, using an appropriate knockout on the ADA-1. Use care to align the groove in the plug with the spline in the receptacle. If the damper control cable does not have a knockout hole strain relief, use the one provided with the ADA-1.
4. Connect the ADA-1 damper cable to the automatic damper, using care to align the groove in the plug with the spline in the receptacle. If the automatic damper has a strain relief bracket, use the strain relief provided with the ADA-1.
5. Connect the 24V ADA-1 control cable to the combustion air/venting equipment being installed, by connecting the three fork terminals marked T1, T2, and T3 (orange, black, and yellow respectively) to the corresponding T1, T2, and T3 terminals on the equipment being installed. Use an extra strain relief or plastic bushing if none is provided with the equipment.
6. To complete the installation, complete the line-voltage wiring to the combustion air/venting equipment being installed, following the installation instructions for the particular equipment. Be sure to replace all wiring covers.
7. Complete the checkout procedure for the equipment being installed, following the instructions for the particular equipment.
