Consulting the Manual
This manual refers to vehicles with two types of transmission:
mechanical gearbox
“F1” electronically-controlled gearbox
therefore, some information may vary depending on the gearbox installed. To facilitate reading and fast consultation, the topics have been divided into sections and chapters. The important parts requiring particular attention are easily identifiable in the sections and chapters.

Spare parts
We recommend you use original Ferrari spare parts, which can only be obtained from the Ferrari Service Network only. The Ferrari warranty is voided if original
Ferrari spare parts are not used for
repairs.
Warranty booklet
Each new vehicle is supplied with a “WARRANTY AND MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE” booklet. This contains the vehicle’s warranty terms and conditions. The warranty booklet also contains the periodic services to be performed according to the “MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE”.
“F1” gearbox
The vehicle may be equipped with an electronically-controlled gearbox system, controlled by means of the levers on the steering wheel.
Even though the system can be used in “AUTO”, mode it should not be considered an automatic gearbox. Hence, for proper use always follow the instructions given in this manual on page
109.

GENERAL
ALARM SYSTEM
The vehicle is equipped with an engine immobiliser system against theft attempts. Three radio controls are provided (1 red “master” and 2 black “slaves”) to activate/deactivate the system.
VEHICLE KEYS
The vehicle is delivered with two identical keys that can be used for:
- locking the doors (central locking system);
- starting the vehicle;
- deactivating the alarm system;
- locking the glove compartment;
- deactivating the passenger airbag (where provided).
CAUTION The radio control system may sometimes fail to operate due to interferences from nearby radio antennas/transmitters which disturb the transmission frequencies.
For the system to resume operation, move the vehicle several tens of metres.
Note: Should you lose one or more radio controls, follow the instructions given in the alarm system manual and contact the
Ferrari Service Network.
Should you lose a key, you can request a duplicate from Ferrari quoting the number shown on the plastic label on the key.
CAUTION Make sure you record the number in the space provided in the “Warranty booklet”.

GENERAL
“PIN code”
A secret “PIN code” (Personal Identification Number) is assigned to each system. The “PIN code” is confidential, and is given to the owner when the vehicle is delivered. The owner is responsible for safekeeping this code. The “PIN code” can be used to deactivate the immobiliser system with the ignition key, without using the radio control.
CAUTION Carefully read the instruction manual provided with the vehicle for proper use of the system.
Should you lose the “PIN code”, you shall order a new radio control kit from the Ferrari Service Network (1 master + 2 slaves) together with the card showing the new “PIN code”.

SEAT BELTS
Introduction
Ferrari has designed and constructed
this vehicle to offer the best possible performance for a road vehicle, ensuring maximum safety. The driver must respect and have the passengers carried observe the provisions of local legislation regarding the compulsory use of seat belts. Within the European Community, directive 2003/20/CE requires the driver to use seatbelts and child restraint systems.
If used correctly, the seat belts, in combination with the pretensioners, protect the occupants from any types of impacts by firmly securing them to the vehicle structure and consequently avoiding dangerous jerks against the passenger compartment.
CAUTION Ferrari recommends you use the seat belts correctly fastened and adjusted at all times!
Correct use of the seat belts can reduce the risk of serious injury in the event of an accident.
The seat belts are automatic with three fastening points and an emergency inertia locking system on the winding unit, equipped with pretensioner.
For an effective restraining action, the seatbelt must be fastened correctly with the seatback in the upright position. The seatbelt is fastened correctly when the upper part of the belt crosses the centre of the shoulder (not the neck) and the abdominal section is fitted over the hips (not the stomach). Furthermore, to increase driving safety, we recommend you position the headrests so that the top of the rest is aligned with the top of your head and, to ensure the airbag is deployed correctly, both the driver and the passenger must keep a safe distance (at least 25cm) from the steering wheel and the dashboard.

PRETENSIONERS
The pretensioners are activated in the event of severe head-on collisions. The belt will rewind a few centimetres just before the restraining action begins, thereby ensuring the proper fitting across the body. The pretensioner activation is indicated by the warning light A coming on on the instrument panel and by the seat belt locking.
CAUTION After activation, the pretensioners no longer function and they cannot be repaired under any circumstances. Contact the Ferrari Service Network to have them replaced.
When the pretensioners are activated, a small amount of smoke is released. This smoke is not harmful and does not indicate the presence of a fire.
CAUTION All works on any part of the safety system components must be performed by the Ferrari Service Network.
It is not permitted to remove or make modifications of any kind to the seat belts, belt retractors and pretensioners. Maintenance work involving strong impacts, vibrations or heating of the pretensioner area may activate them; vibrations caused by road bumps will not have this effect.
CHILD SAFETY
Because of their size, children are at greater risk than adults. Suitable restraint or safety systems must be used. All minors whose physical characteristics (i.e. height, weight) fall within the legal limits in force in each country must be protected by approved restraint or safety systems (e.g., child seats, cradles, cushions). In any case, you are advised to always use homologated child restraint systems bearing the proper test marking.
CAUTION Incorrect fastening of a child restraint system increases the risk of injury to the child in the event of a collision.
The seat belts in the vehicle have been designed and tested to protect persons weighing at least 36 Kg and taller than
1.50 m.

To properly protect children outside these limits, specic restraint systems with dedicated belts or accessories capable of adapting the child’s position to the vehicle’s seatbelts must be tted.
For installation and use of the child restraint systems, follow the instructions provided by the restraint system manufacturer.
CAUTION Do not install rearward-mounting child seats on the front passenger seat if the airbag is enabled, as this could cause serious injuries in the event of deployment.
Do not tamper with the seat belts or child restraint systems. Established legislation in some countries already provides that children under 12 years of age may not travel in the front passenger seat.
The sticker B prohibits installing a child’s seat facing rearwards on the front passenger seat.
CAUTION If you have to carry a child, always turn off the passenger side airbag (optional) on vehicles that are equipped with it, before placing the child seat on the passenger’s seat.

AIRBAG
CAUTION The airbag is not a substitute for the seat belts but increases their effectiveness. Correct use of the seat belts in combination with the airbag offers maximum protection in the event of a collision.
Airbag system components
The airbag system is composed of two instantly inflatable cushions, one on the driver side, in the centre of the steering wheel A, and the other on the passenger side, inside the dashboard B.
CAUTION When the ignition key is turned to position II (see on page 65), the warning light C comes on, and if no faults are detected, goes off after 4 seconds. If the warning light does not come on, or if it stays on, or if it comes on while driving, immediately contact the Ferrari Service Network.

Operation
The airbags are controlled by an ECU that activates them in the event of a head-on collision with medium or strong impact. In the event that an impact (deceleration) exceeds the sensor calibration value, the electronic control unit sends an airbag activation signal. The airbags start inflating, opening the covers along the breaking line, until they are fully deployed (in a few tenths of milliseconds) and positioned as protection between the driver’s or passenger’s body and the vehicle structures which could cause injury. The airbags deflate immediately afterwards.
CAUTION The driver and passenger are both advised not to travel handling objects (e.g., cans, bottles, pipes, etc.,) placed on the airbag module covers or near them, as they could be thrown towards the occupants by the inflating bag and may cause leakages of extremely hot gases.
When the system starts operating, gases are released in the form of fumes together with the gas used for inflating the airbags. These gases are not harmful.
CAUTION Always drive with your hands on the rim of the steering wheel so that, in case of activation, the airbag can inflate without obstruction.
Always keep the back of your seat in the upright position and sit with your back properly resting on it.
The passenger must always fasten the seat belt and sit in an upright position, as far as possible away from the airbag, in order to have optimal protection in all types of collision.
Do not modify the system components or wiring under any circumstances.

Do not cut or tamper with the connectors of the airbag harness or on the airbag modules.
Do not cover the steering wheel or the passenger side of the dashboard with adhesive tape or treat it in any way.
Never remove the steering wheel. If necessary, this procedure should only be performed by a Ferrari Service Network
Centre.
All the airbag system components must be replaced after an accident that has caused airbag deployment.
Following an accident not involving airbag deployment, contact the Ferrari Service Network to have the system checked and any system components that may be damaged or malfunctioning replaced.
Damaged or defective components of the airbag system cannot be repaired and must be replaced.
Improper operations performed on the system components may cause failures or deployment of the airbags with consequent damage.
The airbag system components have been specially designed only for this specific vehicle model. Do not attempt to use them on other vehicles, as this could cause serious injuries to the occupants in the event of an accident.
To scrap the vehicle, please contact the Ferrari Service Network to have the airbag system deactivated.
If the vehicle has been stolen or there has been an attempted theft, have the airbag system checked by the Ferrari Service
Network.
CAUTION The airbag modules must be replaced at the intervals shown in the “MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE” even if the vehicle has not been involved in a collision.

SAFETY
The label D on the right-hand side of the dashboard, bears the airbag system expiry date. When this expiry date is approaching, contact the Ferrari Service Network in order to have the system replaced. The labels E and F indicate the presence of the airbag system.
ABS
This is a safety device that prevents the wheels from locking whenever the driver pushes the brake pedal too sharply. The system is composed of:
electro-hydraulic unit;
EBD braking force distribution
software;
four speed sensors on the wheels, incorporated in the bearings;
These features add to the vehicle’s standard braking system, without changing its characteristics. The driver will feel a “sudden” retreat of the brake pedal when the ABS activates. When one of the wheels starts locking, the hydraulic control unit operates the braking circuit by running a 3-phase cycle:
Reduction (if necessary).
Maintenance.
Pressure increase in the hydraulic
circuit.

If the ABS is activated while braking, these adjustment phases will be repeated in cycles until the vehicle comes to a stop or the pressure on the pedal decreases. In addition, the system offers the following advantages:
- Driving stability (no skidding)
even in the event of sharp braking which may cause wheel locking.
- Manoeuvrability (no side-skidding when performing sharp turns).
This means that even when an emergency situation requires sudden braking, the driver can avoid obstacles, or brake on a curve, without affecting the vehicle stability.
The ABS system features remain unaltered as long as the speed limit for the tyre side grip is not exceeded. Beyond that limit, vehicle skidding cannot be avoided.
- Optimal braking distance
Depending on the type of road surface, the braking distance may be reduced by as much as 40%.
CAUTION The ABS system does not exempt the driver from driving carefully and responsibly at all times.
The ABS system cannot compensate for driving at speeds that are excessively high for certain traffic or road surface conditions, worn tyres, worn components in the braking system or driving errors. The purpose of the ABS system is solely to assist the driver in controlling braking under extreme conditions, in which he/ she could instinctively cause the wheels to lock.
ASR
Together with the ABS, this system prevents the driving wheels from slipping during acceleration, by means of the Motronic ECU. This controls the engine operation (to reduce the torque supplied) and the control pressure on the rear brake calipers. The ASR system activates each time the ignition key is turned to position II and can be deactivated by operating the relevant switch (see page 59). In this case, the letters
will appear in amber on the multi-function display (see page 47).

When the system is active, the ASR activation is signalled by the words ASR
ACTIVE appearing in green on the multi-
function display.
The ASR operates in combination with the suspension adjustment system:
when the “SPORT” mode switch is disabled, the ASR activation supports stability in low- and medium-grip conditions;
when the “SPORT” mode switch is activated, the system supports traction, optimising vehicle performance. Under low-grip conditions (e.g., ice, sand, etc.), do not select “SPORT” mode when the ASR is activated.
INERTIA SWITCH
This is a safety switch positioned in the passenger compartment, under the trim panel on the rear, right-hand side of the central console. In the event of a collision, it deactivates the fuel pump relays. Activation of this switch is signalled by the illumination of the relative icon on the multi-function display (see page 47) and by the illumination of the hazard warning lights.
