1 Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of a mobile Falk navigation device with the new Falk
Navigator.
With the Falk Navigator, you have purchased a product that was developed and tested with
the utmost care. It meets the highest functionality and operating requirements.
Nevertheless, should you have any suggestions or comments that would allow us to make
our products even better, we would be glad to hear from you.
The Falk Navigator manual will teach you all about the extensive functions of your navigation
device. Furthermore, problems which are caused by possible operating errors can be
avoided by reading this manual.
We wish you lots of enjoyment, a good trip, and safe arrival with your mobile Falk navigation
device.
1.1 About this manual
The functions of your Falk Navigator navigation software are described in detail in the
following chapters of this manual. Some chapters are dedicated to functions or optional
accessories that only apply to specific products in the Falk family. Chapters that describe
optional functions or accessories are identified as “optional” in the manual.
The product description on the original packaging of your product will tell you whether you
can use these functions with your product. The packaging also indicates which accessories
are included in the scope of delivery of your product.
The following notation is used in this manual to improve legibility and comprehensibility:
Bold: Important text sections or terms that are used in the Navigator program interface in
the form of labels for the icons used.
Note: Notes are used repeatedly in order to identify important or essential information.
Tip: Tips are pointers designed to make the device easier to use or to solve problems.
In order to ensure you understand the description of the Falk Navigator properly and to avoid
misunderstandings, frequently used terms are explained in detail below.
Note: The screens used in this document show all of the options available in the Falk
Navigator. In the case of products which do not feature all of the functions, these functions
are not displayed on the navigation screen or in the blue bar at the top of the menu. For this
reason, the screens used in the document may differ from those in your navigation system.
In principle, the screens shown in this manual may differ from the screens on your navigation
systems.
Please read through this chapter carefully and follow all of the notes which are provided. This
will ensure reliable operation and a long service life for your device.
•Please establish the required settings and enter your desired destination before you set
off. Never operate your navigation device while driving, since this could distract you from
what is happening on the road and cause an accident.
• Road traffic regulations always take precedence over the instructions provided by the
Falk Navigator. Should this require you to leave the route suggested by your navigation
device, the Falk Navigator will recalculate the route and lead you to your destination
along an alternative route.
• Do not look at the display on your device for a lengthy period of time while driving.
• In order to ensure that the device does not pose a hazard to the vehicle or the occupants
of the vehicle, even in the event of a critical traffic situation such as an emergency stop,
always attach your mobile Falk navigation device in your vehicle using a mounting
bracket recommended by Falk. Ensure that the effectiveness of passive safety systems
in your vehicle such as airbags cannot be impaired by the installation of the bracket.

Do not keep or carry any inflammable liquids, gases or explosives in the same
compartment as your device, its parts or its accessories.
Wireless devices could interfere with the rec
eption of GPS signals and cause unstable signal
reception.
GPS:
GPS is
operated and monitored under the sole responsibility of the government of the United
States, which is also responsible for ensuring the availability and accuracy of this system.
FMI is therefore unable to accept responsibility for GPS availability and accuracy.
G

therefore not possible within a building.
A
t least 4 GPS satellite signals are required to determine the current GPS position. Signal
reception may be impaired by bad weather or dense obstacles above the ground (e.g. trees
and tall buildings).
Temperature:
When you get o
ut of your vehicle, do not leave your device lying on the dashboard where it
might be exposed to sunlight. If the battery overheats, this may result in malfunctions and/or
dangerous situations.
The device may only
be stored at temperatures of -20°C – +60°C and be operated at
temperatures of -10°C – +45°C.
Keep your device away from e
xcessive moisture and extreme temperatures. The device
should only be operated and stored in atmospheric humidity of 0% to 90%.
Do not expose your device to sudden extreme temperature fluctuations.
This might cause
condensation to collect in the device, which might result in damage to the device. When
condensation forms, wait for the device to completely dry out.
Power adapter (optional)
Please only use original
Falk accessories. Other types of power adapter may cause
malfunctions and/or serious damage and cancel FMI’s liability for the resulting
consequences.
Do not use the p
ower adapter in damp environments. Never touch the power adapter if your
hands or feet are wet.
Ensure that there is s
ufficient ventilation around the power adapter if you are using it to
operate the device or to charge the battery. Do not cover the power adapter. Do not use the
power adapter when it is in a carrier bag.
Connect the power adapter to an appr
opriate power source. You will find the voltage
requirements on the product casing.

Battery
Only use the original battery and the original car charger which is supplied with it. If you use
other parts, this may result in malfunctions and/or severe damage and cancel FMI’s liability
for the resulting consequences.
This product works with a lithium-ion battery. Do not use it in a damp, wet and/or corrosive
environment. You must not place your product in or next to heat sources, at places which are
subject to high temperatures or extreme sunlight, in a microwave oven or an excess pressure
container, store it or leave it there, and you must also not expose it to any temperatures
above 60°C (140°F). If you do not adhere to these guidelines, this may cause acid to escape
from the lithium-ion battery, cause it to become hot, explode or catch fire and may cause
injuries and/or damage. You must not pierce, open or dismantle the battery. If the battery
leaks and you come into contact with the liquids which have leaked, thoroughly rinse the
areas which have come into contact with water and consult a doctor immediately. For safety
reasons and in order to lengthen the lifetime of the battery, it will not charge at low
temperatures (below 0°C/32°F) or high temperatures (above 45°C/110°F).

1.3.2 Screen lock
The screen lock allows you to extend the battery running time of your navigation device. It
also prevents you from accidentally switching on the device or accidentally making entries on
the screen and thus ensures that you do not trigger any functions you do not want to.
Activating screen lock
You activate the screen lock via Settings>
Screen lock.
You have a choice between two basic settings:
Timer: Activates the screen lock according to
your personal presettings. You have a choice
between 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes and 10
minutes.
Manual: The screen lock is always activated when you manually activate the on/off switch on
the top of the device (6) (cf. Chap. 1.4). This means that audio will continue to be output, but
entries via the screen are no longer possible. For example, you can use your navigation
device with headphones (not included when the product is supplied) as an MP3 Player
(optional) and place the device in a case without accidental tapping on the screen resulting in
entries being made.
The screen is activated again if you touch the slide control on the display. Pressing the on/off
switch on the top of the device again will switch the device off and thus stop any audio
outputs.
Confirm your entry by tapping OK.
Screen lock active
The screen is activated after the device is switched on via the on/off button on the top of the
device or the battery switch on the bottom of the device. You will now see a virtual slide
control which you can use to switch on the device. To do this, place your finger on the touch
screen and move the slide control from top to bottom. The device is now switched on.
If the slide control is not operated within a certain period of time, your navigation device
automatically switches off again.

1.4.1 Memory card slot
You can use a memory card to store map data or audio files (optional). These files can be
recognised and used by the navigation device. For this to happen, you must insert an SD
card which has country maps or audio files (optional) stored on it into the memory card slot
on your device.
Map data:
In order for map data to be recognised, a soft reset must be carried out after inserting the SD
card into the device. Removing the SD card during navigation or even when the device is
turned off causes the software to crash. A soft reset is therefore required every time the SD
card is removed.
1.4.2 Serial number
For some services or offers in the Falk Online Shop, you need
to specify the serial number of your navigation device.
You will find the serial number of your navigation device on the
product sticker on the back of the device beneath the barcode.
It comes after S/N, e.g. S/N: MCA20G0803812
Please enter only the serial number without S/N, so in our
example: MCA20G0803812

2.2 Navigation screen
In addition to your current position on the map view, the navigation screen also provides you
with lots of extra information.
Safety note: The menus on the navigation screen which contain additional information
should not be operated while you are driving as this may divert your attention from the road.
Your current position is marked on the map view by a red arrow.
The route which has been calculated by the Falk Navigator and on which you are travelling
has a blue background on the map view. This allows you to see ahead to where the route is
taking you.
You can get to the main menu of the application at any time by tapping on the main
menu button.
2.2.1 Overview
A Information bar
The information bar shows the next street name and, if applicable, the associated road
number. When you are on a main road or motorway, additional direction indicators and exit
numbers are displayed before a turnoff. This means that you are informed about the main
road or motorway number or exit you will take next. This number is displayed in conjunction
with a corresponding symbol.
Note: If your next manoeuvre is more than 5 km away, the information bar is hidden. If you
are in Position Tracking mode, the information bar is automatically hidden.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 18 -
Zoom – Map extract: You can use the +/- buttons to enlarge or reduce the size of
the map extract (zoom in and out). If you activate one of the buttons, a slide
control also appears which you can use to infinitely adjust the map size you desire. To do
this, tap on the relevant point on the guide line.
B Display area (status symbol)
The display area shows you what is currently going on by way of the status symbols.
Depending on the status, the symbols may only be displayed temporarily. The following
status symbols can be displayed.
Profile: The symbols Car
, Motorbike Bicycle and Pedestrian tell you which
profile you have currently set.
Compass: The compass symbol is used to display the direction in which you are
travelling.
GPS quality: The satellite symbol shows the GPS quality currently available.
Red: Insufficient GPS signal to determine your position. Signals are being received from
fewer than 3 satellites.
Yellow: The GPS signal is sufficient to determine your position, but not sufficient to
determine elevation. Signals are being received from 3 satellites.
Green: You are receiving a high-quality GPS signal that allows your elevation to be
determined. Signals are being received from at least 4 satellites.
Battery: The battery indicator shows the remaining battery capacity for the device. It is
first shown on the navigation screen when the remaining capacity falls to less than 30%.
Once the remaining capacity falls below 15%, the battery indicator is shown in red. When the
battery capacity drops below 10%, a prompt is displayed on the screen asking you to
connect your device to a power supply. Once the device has been connected to a power
source, the
symbol indicates that the navigation device is currently charging.
Mute: If you mute the system volume controls, this is indicated on the navigation screen
by a loudspeaker symbol with a line through it.
Note: You can adjust the system volume settings via the rapid access menu or the settings
menu. To do this, tap the loudspeaker symbol on the navigation screen.
Mobile phone (optional): This symbol is shown if there is an active phone connection as
part of the Bluetooth® function which has been activated. If the mobile phone symbol is
displayed, the mute symbol is switched off. Please consult Chapter 2.7 for more detailed
information on how to make phone calls using Bluetooth®.
Speed camera detector (optional): The warning triangle tells you if you have activated
the speed camera detector or not. If you encounter a fixed speed camera on your journey,
you will see a corresponding alert icon along the route on the navigation screen. Please
consult the Navigator settings chapter 2.5 for details on how to activate the speed camera
detector.
Note: If you have downloaded speed camera detector data from the Internet onto your
navigation device using the PC program Falk Navi-Manager (cf. Chap. 5) and activated this
data via the Settings menu, you will, on the basis of what speed is permitted, receive a visual
and audible warning for the first time at least 50 m before a fixed speed camera and for the
second time at least 15 m before a fixed speed camera.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 19 -
Note: For terms and conditions on the use of the speed camera detector, please
consult Chapter 2.5.3.
C Map
The scale of the map display is dependent on the speed you are travelling at. The more
slowly you drive, the more detailed a map will be displayed.
Note: The autozoom functions can be deactivated via the Settings menu (cf. Map display
2.5.1).
Moving the map: The section of the map which is displayed can be moved. To do this, tap
the map and, at the same time, drag it in the direction you want to see. This allows you to
follow the path of the calculated route.
If you want to realign the vehicle position in the map in the direction of travel, tap on the
Centre button which is displayed on the navigation screen when moving the map.
Map scale: The display shows you which scale is currently being
used. When you press the zoom button, the map scale is shown to you on the info bar on the
2D view. The scale of the map display will change dynamically depending on the speed of
your vehicle and the zoom level which is set.
D Rapid access menu – Functions
The rapid access menu features a large number of functions and
settings which you can activate or change during navigation
without having to stop navigating.
Rapid access menu
Via the Functions rapid access menu, you can call up information, make settings or
activate functions.
You can adapt the functions which are available on the rapid access menu to reflect your
own personal needs in the settings menu under Settings>Rapid access menu (see Chap.
2.5.27 Set rapid access menu ).
All functions and settings are described in the following chapters.
E Rapid access menu- TMC traffic messages (optional)
Depending on the TMC settings you made in the TMC settings menu, your Falk
Navigator receives TMC and/or TMCpro (optional) traffic messages during your trip and
processes this information during route calculation. A coloured bar continuously indicates the
TMC status on the navigation screen.
Grey: No reception of TMC or TMCpro traffic messages.
Possible causes may be:
• TMC/TMCpro (optional) are deactivated on the Settings menu
• The TMC antenna is positioned incorrectly
• An unknown TMC encryption format is being received
• No TMC station is available in the region
• Your product is not TMC/TMCpro-compatible (not supplied with all products)
Green: A TMC transmitter is being received. However, there are no current TMC messages
regarding traffic problems.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 20 -
Yellow: There are current TMC / TMCpro messages. However, traffic on the
calculated route is not affected.
Red: There are current TMC / TMCpro messages and at least one of them affects the
calculated route.
Note: Even if you can receive a radio station with traffic reports on your car radio, the TMC
status may be displayed “grey” on account of the above restrictions.
Note: When you are in Position Tracking mode, the TMC bar never changes to red since you
are not navigating a calculated route.
Note: The display remains yellow if there are traffic jams on your route but they are not
located within the next 50 km. For example, when you are driving from Stuttgart to Hamburg,
you do not need to know whether there are traffic jams in the vicinity of Hamburg at the start
of your trip. When you reach your destination a few hours later, the traffic jam may have
already cleared.
If you tap on the button you will receive brief additional traffic information on the route you
are taking. The split screen will show a list of information on traffic jams along your route.
The list will include a symbol showing the reason
for each jam (queue of traffic, roadworks); your
distance from the traffic jam is shown underneath
along with the TMCpro symbol (optional), the
road number and the length of the tail-back (on
the right). The list is arranged in descending
order of distance from your present position so
that the nearest jam is at the head of the list. If
you tap on Display all, a detailed list of traffic
jam reports will be displayed.
Note: Only a limited number of entries can be shown in the case of navigation devices with a
3.5” screen.
Tapping on the button Automatic search initiates a search for a transmitter providing
information on traffic congestion. The automatic search stops if a transmitter with this
information is found.
You can select one of the items on the list by tapping on it. A screen with detailed information
will then open. You will also receive a description of the traffic problem and the approximate
delay.
Take traffic jam information into account
If there are one or more traffic jams (red display) on your calculated route, you can
consider these in calculating your route.
Tap on Consider, An alternative route will be calculated.
The alternative route which is calculated will be shown to you in comparison with your current
route.
If you tap on Avoid, the alternative route will be calculated and used for the rest of your
navigation to your destination.
If you tap on Cancel, the current route will be retained.
In order to reset the avoidance of traffic jams, tap in the main menu on
Rerouting>Rerouting manager. All blockages are displayed in a list. Select the blockage
you want and delete it.

information about your route and your position. You can adapt the
information to your own personal needs.
Tap on one of the two buttons containing the travel information in order to set the display to
meet your own requirements.
You will be shown a selection list in which the route information (e.g. altitude, current speed,
time, distance to destination, arrival time, remaining journey time) is listed in alphabetical
order. Select an item of travel information and confirm by clicking OK. The selected
information is now shown on the button.
G Lane assistant
The lane assistant makes it easier for you to work out where you are on roads
with several lanes and at complex intersections, i.e. on motorways, at
motorway junctions, on main roads and roads of great importance (e.g. heading towards an
airport).
The lane assistant indicates which of the possible lanes you need to get into when
approaching a turning.
The lane which is ideal for your route is indicated by a white arrow, which takes you to your
next turn-off manoeuvre. Blue arrows indicate further lanes, but you should not travel in
these lanes.
J Manoeuvre box
The manoeuvre box indicates the direction of the next turn-off using an arrow; at
intersections, other streets are also shown as well as the distance to the next
manoeuvre. If you are on a roundabout, streets that come off the roundabout are
also shown in addition to the turnoff arrow.
Relevant cross-streets and intersections before the next turnoff are also displayed. The
numbers indicate how many cross streets/intersections you still have to pass before you turn
off.
Note: If you click on the manoeuvre box, the system will announce the next turn-off
command again.
Manoeuvre preview
If you have to undertake several manoeuvres in quick succession, the next manoeuvre
but one is indicated in the form of a direction arrow to the right of the manoeuvre box to help
you find your way in good time.
K Top speed warner (speed warner)
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 23 -
The top speed warner will show you the relevant maximum speeds on
motorways and main roads in the form of traffic sign. If you exceed the
speed limit by the margin that you have defined for yourself, a warning triangle is
displayed on the left navigation screen. Depending on the settings, you are also
provided with an audible warning.
The speed warning feature must first be activated in the settings menu. You can also
establish your personal speed limits there.
Speed limits that are linked to specific conditions such as the weather or time of day
are indicated by symbols such as a rain cloud or a clock.
2.2.2 Reality view (optional)
Reality view is the realistic portrayal of motorway junctions, intersections and exits. The
portrayal shows in reality which lane you should choose and which signs you should follow.
Requirement: Reality view has been activated.
How to active reality view: Main menu> Settings> Map display> Reality view on/off.
Reality view is shown when during a journey on a
motorway you approach the following points:
• motorway junction
• motorway intersection
• exits at which you leave the motorway
The display remains static until you pass the
point which is shown and it then switches back to
the navigation display.
The manoeuvre box which is shown automatically
shows you the distance to your next manoeuvre.
To exit reality view early, tap on the reality view shown on the screen and the display will
revert back to the navigation view.
Note: The availability of reality view will depend on what map material is used and is only
shown if a route has been calculated. Reality view is not available for all motorway junctions
and intersections.

2.3 Destination entry
Note: The functions Destination entry, Route planning, Tours and Position Tracking
are not available when there is no map material. Make sure you have installed appropriate
maps before using one of these functions. When the products are supplied, map material is
already preinstalled on your navigation device and/or an SD card. You can install additional
map material which is enclosed with some product types or is available to purchase
commercially on your device or an SD memory card. You will find more detailed information
on map transfer in the chapter on the Falk Navi-Manager (cf. Chapter 5).
GPS status
The fundamental basis for any navigation is sufficient satellite coverage so that your location
can be continuously determined with the aid of a GPS (Global Positioning System) signal.
To find out how to check the GPS status of your device, please consult Chapter 5.5.12.
Note: The first time the device is turned on, it may take a few minutes to recognise the GPS
position. Your position will be recognised more quickly when the device is turned on on
subsequent occasions.
If you accidentally miss a turnoff or take an incorrect turn, a new route is calculated
automatically. You are safely guided to your desired destination by navigation
announcements; the screen also displays your current position and the route you need to
take.
You will automatically be in Position Tracking mode if you are not navigating to a specific
destination or are not in Simulation mode. Even if you are not heading for a particular
destination and would just like to explore the local area, you can nevertheless have the
navigation screen show your current position at all times.
You can exit navigation or simulation on the main menu by tapping the button Delete route
or Delete simulation.
On the program screen tap on Destination entry.
Using the destination entry button, you can enter a destination of your choice and have the
navigation device guide you there conveniently. With the Falk Navigator, you can navigate to
a specific house number (depending on the map information available).
The destination can be selected in one of several ways.
• By entering an address
• By selecting the home address
• By selecting a favourite
• By selecting a recent destination
• By selecting a special destination (POI)
• By using the Travel Guide
• By using tours
• By selecting a point on the map
• By entering geo-coordinates
You do not always have to enter the whole of the address in order to select a destination. All
you need to do is select a country and a city and, if applicable, a street in order to calculate a
route or in order to refine the destination entry on the map view or via the POI search.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 26 -

Destination entry options which are important to you quickly and with ease.
Tap on Destination entry> Menu order.
All of the destination entry options are available
to you on a list. With the arrow keys on the left
you can scroll through the list.
Select the function whose position you would like
to change by tapping on it. With the angular arrows on the right you can move the previously
selected function to another point on the list.

2.3.1 Destination entry by entering an address
Tap on the destination selection screen on Address.
Choose country
The currently selected country appears in the
top-right corner of the screen and is identified by
the corresponding national flag and the
respective international licence-plate code for the
country (3.5” screen) or the country name (4.3”
screen). Tap the button in order to select a
different country.
The Choose country screen is displayed. All of the installed national maps with a detailed
road network are listed in alphabetical order. Use the arrow keys to scroll through the list of
countries.
Note: You can only enter a destination if a map for the destination country is installed on
your navigation device.
Attention: Depending on the type of product, not all of the detailed maps which are supplied
are preinstalled on the navigation device.
All of the country maps which are supplied for your navigation system can be found on the
enclosed Content+Falk Navi-Manager DVD. You can transfer these country maps to your
navigation device using the Falk Navi-Manager PC program. Read Chapter 5 for more
information about this.
You can obtain up-to-date country maps e.g. as a Falk map subscription on the Internet via
the Falk Online Shop at http://shop.gofalk.com/falk/.
Note: For cross-national route calculations, you must have the country maps for the
destination country as well as the countries which you must travel through along your route.
If you do not have all of the country maps for the countries in between, the European network
of main trunk roads must be installed in order that you can reach your destination country.
World regions
If you would like to head for a destination located in a country outside Europe, you should tap
the World regions button.
Note: The World regions button is only shown to you if an appropriate country map has been
installed.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 27 -
You can obtain country maps outside of Europe (e.g. North America) on the
Internet via the Falk Online Shop at http://shop.gofalk.com/falk/.
All available world regions will be shown in the form of a list. Tapping an entry in the list
selects that entry. You can then confirm your selection by tapping Ok.
Note on trips to Russia: If the country map you
have chosen is for a country which uses the
Cyrillic font (e.g. Russia, Belarus, Ukraine), you
then have the option of using the Cyrillic keypad
to enable you to accurately enter destinations in
these countries.
To do this, tap on the button.
The Cyrillic
keypad will appear.
To switch back to the Latin keypad, tap on the
button.
Once you have selected the destination country,
use the on-screen keypad to enter the
destination city (e.g. Berlin). This will appear in
the selection window when you select a letter.
To enter special characters, tap for approx. 2
seconds on the relevant letter (e.g. to select an Ä,
on the letter A). A selection window for special
characters will open up from which you can now
select the special character you desire.
Here you will also find special characters for all of the letters in the languages which are
available on the Falk Navigator.
Automatic word recognition: An automatic
word recognition function (look-ahead function)
is available to you when you enter information; it
makes data entry quick and easy.
The Falk Navigator has a stored list of possible
place names. This list is filtered according to the
letters you have entered. Letters that are no
longer applicable are hidden. Usually, you do not
have to enter the entire place name. The
integrated partial word search ensures that, for composite street names, a search is also
performed for text strings that are not at the beginning of the street name. For example,
entering “Gmünd” is sufficient when you are searching for “Schwäbisch Gmünd”. Combined
with the look-ahead function and the ability to enter disintegrated umlauts, this example
displays the desired result once "Gm" has been entered.
You can scroll through the list of search results using the arrow keys.
Once you find the desired destination town/city, confirm your selection by tapping the place
name or tapping Next.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 28 -
Choose postcode
Alternatively, the address can also be entered
using the postcode. To enter a numerical
postcode, tap on the destination entry screen on
the
button. Enter the postcode using the
numerical keypad. The selected postcode and
city are shown.
Note: If you do not wish to further restrict your
search by selecting a street and / or street
address but simply want to navigate to the centre
of the destination town/city, simply tap the Calculate button after you select the place name.
Before you tap Calculate, you can also tap the Map button in order to view the destination
address on the map.
Choose street
Enter the destination street (e.g. Unter den Linden). Confirm the street name by tapping
the street or confirm by tapping Next.
Choose street address
Enter the street address (e.g. “6”). Confirm your selection by tapping the number or the
Calculate button. The route is calculated.
If you accidentally enter a non-existent street address, the look-ahead function provides you
with a choice of valid selections.
Note: When town/city and street names are entered for the first time, they are stored and
displayed at the top of the Previous destinations list the next time you enter a destination.
You can use the arrow keys to navigate through the displayed list.
You can erase the items on this list by selecting Clear history in the settings menu.
Note: If the destination you have entered is not unique because there are multiple
occurrences of the address in the destination town/city, another screen is displayed prior to
route calculation. This screen displays a list of all choices that match the information you
have entered; they are identified with their postal code and the name of the district. You can
tap the Map button in order to preview the destination in the map view. Tap Calculate in
order to calculate the route to the selected destination town/city. The route calculation to the
selected destination town/city starts.
Route options
Before the route is calculated, you are given the option of changing the current route options.
Requirement: The option Ask route options
must be activated in the settings menu.
You can choose:
• Profile: Car, Motorbike, Bicycle, Pedestrian
• Option for route calculation: clever, fast,
short or economical
•Option to avoid routes via: motorways,
ferries, toll roads and roads where you have
to display a vignette.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 29 -
Note: The route options available depend on the selected profile.
Ask departure time
Every time you navigate using the “Clever” route option, the current time and the current day
of the week will be used by the system. If you wish to plan a tour or actually wish to travel the
route at a different time, you have the option of entering the day and the time you desire prior
to calculating the route. This is the only way to ensure that the information available at this
time about the volume of traffic which you have obtained from Intelligent Navigation can be
used in a meaningful way on the route.
Requirement: To be able to define a point in
time, the button Ask departure time must be
activated on the Settings menu.
Note: If you do not define a different time for the
start of your navigation, the current system time
will always be used for calculating the route.
You can use the arrow keys by the box on the left
to define the day of the week on which you wish
to travel. To do this, tap on the up and down arrows.
Note: If you want to travel on a public holiday, set the day of the week to Sunday.
In the other boxes, you can enter the time you are planning to set off at. To do this, use the
arrow buttons to select the hours (middle) and the minutes (right).
You will find further information about Learning navigation in the section on Route options

2.3.2 Destination entry by selecting the home address (Home)
If you have already established a home address in the settings menu, you can select it as
your starting or destination address using the Home button in the destination selection
screen. The route is then calculated automatically. You do not need to confirm your selection
again.
If you have not yet entered your home address, the Set home button is displayed instead of
the Home button when you select your destination. When you tap this button, you are given
the option of either selecting as your home address an address, a favourite, one of the recent
destinations or a special or Travel Guide destination or entering geo-coordinates. When you
next open the destination selection screen, the Home button will be displayed. This indicates
that the home address which you previously selected has been saved.
2.3.3 Destination entry by selecting one of the recent destinations
With the Falk Navigator, you can select recent destinations quickly and easily. Destinations
are continuously stored in a list and are displayed in the destination selection screen by
tapping the Recent destinations button.
Select Recent destinations in the destination selection screen.
Select a destination. You can use the arrow keys to scroll through the list or search for the
correct entry by entering the name using the on-screen keypad
Tap Calculate in order to start the route calculation process.
Note: The Falk Navigator stores up to 20 recent destinations and then overwrites them
starting with the first entry again.
If you have activated the Ask route options function in the settings menu, you have the
option of changing the route options currently selected (see Chapter 2.4.1). However, you
can begin calculating the route at any time by tapping Calculate again.
Departure time: Every time you navigate using the “Clever” route option, the current time
and the current day of the week will be used by the system. If you wish to plan a tour or
actually wish to travel the route at a different time, you have the option of entering the day
and the time you desire prior to calculating the route. This is the only way to ensure that the
information available at this time about the volume of traffic which you have obtained from
Intelligent Navigation can be used in a meaningful way on the route.
You will find further information about Learning Navigation in the Route options section.

2.3.5 Destination entry by selecting a special destination (POI)
Instead of entering a complete address, you can search for special destinations (POIs) in a
town/city or on a street; addresses for special destinations and, in certain cases, further
information are stored in the Falk Navigator. These special destinations are divided into
categories and frequently help you locate places of interest, attractions, hotels, restaurants, and much more.
You can choose the POI categories when you select your destination, but also access this
function during navigation via the rapid access
menu.
In both cases, you should tap on the POI button
in order to start the search for POIs.
You should first select a POI category. The most
important POI categories are Parking, Petrol stations, Restaurants, Rest areas and Hotels.
All other POI categories are summarised under
All categories. When you click on All
categories, a list opens containing additional POI categories from which you can select one,
several or all categories by tapping on them.
Note: Depending on whether you have defined
personal favourites, you will be shown them in
the category (“My POIs”).
Using the Full-text search button, you can
search for a specific POI within a number of
categories. A search for the term is performed
within the categories which were previously
selected by tapping.
Enter the name or part of the name of the POI, e.g. tower, using the keypad. A search for the
term entered will then be performed among the headings and descriptions for the special
destinations in the categories selected.
Once you select a special destination category,
you will be prompted to select a search area for
special destinations. You can search for special
destinations in the vicinity of your current
location or your current destination, along the
route or in the vicinity of a town/city centre, an
address, a favourite, an additional special
destination or a point on the map.
Tip: If you want to search for a special destination in the vicinity of your current location but
the navigation system has not yet established your current GPS position, a map view is
displayed. The last saved location is displayed in the map view. If it matches your current
location, select Next.
If the position does not match, select your current position on the map view.
Note: If your device has not yet been recognised by the Global Positioning System (GPS)
satellites or if your location has changed, you can update your current position by selecting
the Update position button. You can only search the vicinity of your current destination if
you have selected one. If you want to search in the vicinity of an address or the centre of a town / city, you are prompted to enter the address or the name of the town / city using the
keypad.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 33 -
Tip: For example, you would like to navigate to a place of interest, e.g. the
Reichstag in Berlin, but you do not know where you can park. The Special destination search function for the area surrounding a Special destination enables you to
navigate to special destinations such as car parks or restaurants located in the vicinity of
other special destinations (e.g. places of interest).
Your current position is displayed when you tap
Position on the map. In this view, you can
manually select a town/city in the vicinity of
which you would like to search for special
destinations. If the desired town/city is not visible
on the map, you can tap the map and scroll by
dragging it. Tapping on the map moves the pin
and establishes a new position.
After you have established the central point for
your search, all available POIs will be shown in a list in the order of their proximity to this
central search point.
Note: The distances in the POI list indicate the distance to the central search point as the
crow flies. The exact distance to be covered is not determined until the route is calculated.
It is possible to scroll through lists of special destinations using the arrow keys. The name
and distance as well as an importance icon and, where appropriate, a theme icon are
displayed for each entry in the list and will subsequently be provided with a list of search
results.

2.3.6 Destination entry by selecting a Travel Guide destination
You can select a destination from the Travel Guide using the Travel Guide button in the
destination entry screen.
You must first establish where you would like to search for the destination. You can select
the current location, a current destination (if you are navigating to a destination), a
town/city centre, your home address, a favourite or a recent position as a central point
for the search.
The data records are calculated. You must then establish the theme category in which you
would like to search for the destination. The themes available are Top Highlights, In the
Evening, Shopping, Eating & Drinking, Art & Culture, Trade Fairs & Transport, Museums,
Attractions, Overnight Accommodation and all available categories at a glance.
Each theme category is subdivided into further sub-categories. For more information on the
category system of the Travel Guide, please see Chapter 3.2.
A list with special destination entries (POI list) will be displayed for each sub-category which
you select. You can tap on a list entry to select it and then begin calculating the route by
clicking on the Calculate button.
Before you start calculating a route, you can look at the POI in the detailed view. You can
get to the detailed view by selecting the relevant entry and then tapping on it again. You can
find further information in Chapter 3.2.
You can start calculating the route to your chosen POI by tapping the Calculate button.
2.3.7 Destination entry using tours
You can select several interim destinations and organise them into a tour with your Falk
Navigator. This function can be used to plan a route to several subsequent destinations. You

2.3.9 Destination entry using geo-coordinates
To enter a location (geo-position) using coordinates, you should tap the Geo-coordinates
button.
Degree of latitude: The degree of latitude
specifies the distance in a northerly or southerly
direction with respect to a zero point on the
earth's surface. This zero point is the equator.
Latitude is expressed in values between the zero
point and the poles (±90°). You should first select
whether the desired position is located in the
northern or southern hemisphere. To do so, you
should select either the letter N or S. The letters
N and S determine the sign preceding the coordinate (N = +, S = -, equator = 0). You should
then enter the desired degree of latitude.
Longitude: By determining the longitude, you
establish a position which is to the east or west of
a defined north-south line. This line is the zero
meridian. Longitude is measured starting from the
zero meridian as far as 180° in either an easterly
or westerly direction. To enter the degree of
longitude, select the letter E or W and then
specify the desired degree of longitude.
You have the option of specifying the degree of latitude and longitude either in degrees or as
a decimal number. The Degrees and Dec buttons are provided at the top of the screen for
this purpose. Degrees indicates that the coordinate should be given in degrees, minutes and
seconds. When a coordinate is entered using the Dec button, a decimal number which
represents the degree of latitude or longitude is given.
Example: The coordinates for Marco-Polo-Str. 1 in Ostfildern can be entered as follows:
Entry in degrees:
N 48°43´19.4´´, O009°13`24,3´´
Note: When the degree of longitude is entered in
degrees, three digits are displayed on the
navigation device (max. 180 degrees east or
west). When entering a single-digit or two-digit
degree of longitude, please ensure that the
digit(s) is/are preceded by two or one zeros as
appropriate (e.g. 009° or 013°).
As soon as a set of complete coordinates has
been entered, these coordinates together with an
available address will be displayed. However, this information can be displayed and used as
a destination for the Navigator only if the geo-position specified is located within the map
information installed on the device.
In addition, the geo-position specified can be viewed on the map and changed manually by
moving the pin (i.e. by clicking on the map). In order to open the map view, you must first tap
the Map button.
If the geo-coordinates which you have entered are correct, tap the Calculate button and the
route will subsequently be calculated.

2.4 Navigator functions
2.4.1 Navigation by local public transport – public transport
The public transport function allows you to incorporate means of public transport into your
route calculation. The stops which are situated nearest to your start and destination points
are selected. The route guidance takes you to the starting stop and from the destination stop
to your final destination. The route calculation includes the approximate journey times for the
means of public transport which are used.
Tap in the main menu on Public transport.
Enter your destination (see Destination entry).
Confirm your entry by tapping Calculate.
A list appears containing the starting point, the
starting stop and destination stop for the means
of public transport and your final destination
point. The stops can be changed by tapping on
the picture at the end of the relevant line. An
alternative stop can be selected from a list. The
stops are shown arranged by their distance from
the starting point or destination point.
With the starting point and destination point, you
can tap on the picture at the end of the relevant
line to stipulate whether you wish to travel to (or
from) the relevant stop by car, motorbike, bicycle
or as a pedestrian.
Tap on Calculate to confirm your selection and
start calculating your route. Tap on Navigation in
order to start the routing to your starting stop.
Once you have arrived at the starting stop, the
public transport route is automatically displayed
on the navigation screen.
Note: The automatic switchover depends on the
GPS signal. As it is often not possible to receive
the GPS signal inside buildings and in
underground stations, it may be the case that the device will not switch over automatically. In
this case, you can switch over manually. To do this, select Main menu>Public transport connection. Tap on Get on.
On the navigation screen, you can use your finger to move the list up and down while you
are travelling on public transport. If you tap on an entry in the list, the stop will be shown on
the map. You can use the Position button to return the map to the current position. By
tapping on Public transport connection, you can view the whole route.
Once you arrive at your destination stop, the navigation automatically switches to routing you
to your final destination point.
Note: The automatic switchover depends on the GPS signal. As it is often not possible to

the device will not switch over automatically. In this case, you can switch over
manually. To do this, select Main menu>Public transport connection. Tap on
Get off.
2.4.2 Destination entry/simulation via the route planner
You can use the route planner to plan and preview routes in advance from the comfort of
your home. Not only can you display the route and travel time, but you can also simulate the
calculated route on your mobile Falk navigation device. The route planner has a similar
structure as the destination entry menu. All you need to do is enter a starting point first.
The starting point is then replaced by the current GPS position in the Destination entry
screen. To plan a route, proceed as follows.
Tap Route planner in the main menu.
Enter a starting address, select a favourite, one of your recent destinations, your home
address, a special destination or a Travel Guide destination, or enter a set of geocoordinates. Tap the Map symbol in order to view the address you have entered on the map
or to manually select the starting point by tapping the map.
Confirm your selection with Accept.
Now enter a destination address or select a favourite, one of your recent destinations,
your home address, a special destination or a Travel Guide destination, or enter a set of
geo-coordinates. Tap Calculate in order to start the route calculation process. Tap Back to
return to the destination selection screen.
Note: The starting point and destination must not be identical.
If you have activated the Ask route options function in the settings menu, you will be given
the option of changing the route options previously selected before you actually begin
calculating the route.
However, you can cancel any changes to your route options (3 different screens) by tapping
Calculate beforehand.
Various buttons are available once the route has been calculated.
You can use the arrow keys to display the route sections from the starting point to the
destination in stages using a route list.
Select Back to exit route planning and return to the starting address entry screen.
Select the Simulation button in order to simulate the calculated route. Note that the
simulation proceeds more quickly than actual navigation.
Select Navigation to launch navigation to the destination address established during route
planning. The starting address is replaced by your current location.
To cancel a simulation/navigation, tap on the button Delete Route. This will take you back
to the main menu. Once you are back in the main menu, you can simply enter a new
destination via the destination entry screen. The current route will be replaced when a new
route is calculated.
If you do not wish to enter a destination and would prefer to switch to the position tracking
mode instead, you should select the Delete route or Delete simulation option in the main
menu.

Public transport route planner
The public transport route planner allows you to plan routes which involve the use of
public transport in comfort from your own home. The public transport route planner has a
similar structure to the route planner.
Tap in the main menu on Route planner and select “By public transport“.
Enter a starting point and destination point and tap on Calculate.
A list will appear showing the starting point, the public transport stops used and the
destination point. The stations can be changed by tapping on the picture at the end of the
relevant line.
With the starting point and destination point, you can tap on the picture at the end of the
relevant line to stipulate whether you wish to travel to (or from) the relevant stop by car,
motorbike, bicycle or as a pedestrian.
With the public transport stops, an alternative stop can be selected from a list. The stops are
shown arranged by their distance from the starting point or destination point.
Tap on Calculate to start calculating your route.
For more information about the further functions for navigation by public transport, please
consult Chapter 2.4.1.
2.4.3 Route options
On the main menu you can set the Route options for your route. Route options
determine which criteria should be used to optimise the route and whether certain means of
transport (e.g. ferry connections) should be excluded from the route calculation.
Note: The route options available will depend on
the selected profile (cf. Profiles 2.4.12).
Choose route option
Note: If in the first step you select bicycle or
pedestrian navigation, the route can not be
optimised based on the following route options.
If you have selected the Car profile, you can
choose between the following route options:
•Clever: You have the option of using the Learning Navigation data (routing dependent
on the day and time of day) (cf. Chap. 6) for your navigation device. The cleverest route
which leads you to your destination as quickly as possible is calculated automatically.
Note: If you do not agree to exchange data with the Falk Community (cf. Chap. 5), the
device will revert at this point to preinstalled learning navigation data.
•Fast: The fastest route to your destination will be calculated, but this may not be the
cleverest because current traffic volumes are not taken into account.
•Short: The shortest, sensible route to your destination will be calculated. But this may
not always be the fastest.
Economical: You will be given the route which represents the best compromise between
time and distance. In weighing up the alternatives, consideration is also given to the fact that
the time gained from travelling at higher speeds may well also result in a higher level of
petrol consumption.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 40 -
If you have selected the Motorbike profile, you can choose between the
following route options:
• Fast: At this point the fastest route is calculated.
• Short: You are shown the shortest, sensible route to your destination.
• Economical: You will be given the route which represents the best compromise between
time and distance. In weighing up the alternatives, consideration is also given to the fact
that the time gained from travelling at higher speeds may well also result in a higher level
of petrol consumption.
Select Continue to see more route options.
Avoid section on route
You can avoid motorways, ferries, tunnels and toll roads on your route.
Note: The motorway and toll buttons are deactivated if you selected pedestrian or bicycle
navigation.
Tap the respective symbol. A crossed-out symbol indicates that you have excluded
motorways, ferries, and / or toll roads from the route calculation.
Note: If any of the three route options have been excluded but there is no other way to reach
your destination, the Falk Navigator will use the excluded options (motorway, ferry, or toll
road) when calculating the route.
Select the Ok button on the bottom right of the screen to save the route profile settings. The
program automatically takes you to the map view.
2.4.4 Remember position
If you want to save your current position for subsequent navigation, tap the Remember
position button. The position is added to Favourites in the destination selection screen along
with the street and place name (e.g. Eierwiesenweg 19, Filderstadt). You can use this option
to quickly and easily find your parking spot in an unfamiliar city, for example.
In addition, you can enter a name for the address here.
To do this, on the main menu tap on the button
Remember position. You can use the delete key
or back key on the address entry screen to
delete the name and enter a new name for the
address.
Tap on Ok. The position is saved under Favourites.
Note: If GPS reception is inadequate, the
navigation device will save the position where GPS
reception was last available. If no last GPS position
is available, no position can be saved under Favourites.
2.4.5 Travel Guide
The navigation system is equipped with travel guides for numerous towns and cities within
the map information. A detailed explanation of the Travel Guide can be found in Chapter 3.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 41 -
2.4.6 Settings
Numerous different settings can be made. Given the wide variety of settings available,
they are explained in more detail below in Chapter 2.5.
2.4.7 Making telephone calls - Bluetooth® function (optional)
A number of navigation devices are equipped with a Bluetooth® function. This allows you
to establish a wireless connection between your mobile telephone and your navigation
device and then use your navigation device as a hands-free system.
You will find further instructions on how to us the Bluetooth® application in Chapter 2.7
2.4.8 Favourites
The Favourites function allows you to save destinations of your choice so that you can
access them quickly and easily when required without having to re-enter the address.
You can also make POIs (special destinations) which are already preinstalled your personal
favourites. They can then be updated or rate by you.
Note: A maximum of 500 favourites can be created on your navigation device.
Click the Favourites button in the main menu. If no favourites have been created yet, the
selection list is empty. Existing favourites are listed in alphabetical order. You can scroll
between your favourites using the arrow keys.

your list of favourites along with the street and place name.
Editing/updating favourites
To edit a favourite, select a favourite and tap on the stylus symbol.
You can use the back or delete key
You can delete a favourite using the X symbol.
(cf. Chapter 2.4.2) to change the entries.
Note: If you have set a home address using Set Home, this address can be viewed or
deleted by tapping on the Favourites button on the main menu.
Note: The Favourites and my POIs you have created can be transferred via the Falk NaviManager to the Falk Community. There you can update the Favourites and give them
ratings, comments and a picture (optional), transfer them back to your PND as a Favourite
(cf. Chap. 5) and then use them within the Falk Travel Guide.
For details on how to do this, please consult Chapter 5 on the Falk Navi-Manager.
2.4.9 Rerouting
The Rerouting menu function gives you the
option of blocking sections of road for your route
calculation. This allows you to perform alternative
routing without any fuss. This is particularly
helpful, for example, if you wish to avoid
temporary sets of roadworks or unpopular routes
that you are aware of.
Furthermore, you can comfortably manage
diversions which have been taken into account
as a result of traffic jam reports (TMC) and delete them again if necessary.
You can manage all blockages which you put in place via the Rerouting manager. Note: You can put a maximum of 20 blockages in place.
This is how you block routes:
Click on the map
Tap on Block road. You will be taken to the
map view screen showing your current position.
The map is oriented towards the north.
Select the section of road which you wish to
block by tapping on it. A road segment can
always be blocked between two side roads.
You can also select further road segments by
tapping on them. If you tap again on a section
of road you have already selected, the marking
is then cancelled.
In the adjacent window on the map view screen, the road segments and the direction in
which they are to be blocked can be displayed and amended. The direction of blocking is
entered based on the point of the compass.
You confirm the blocking by tapping on OK. Decide whether the blocking should be applied
permanently or just for the present route calculation.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 43 -
Attention: If you have not calculated a route and you block a section on a route,
this section will be permanently blocked for the purpose of route calculation. The
blocking can be lifted again via the Rerouting manager.
If you wish to block segments of road outside of the map shown on the map view, you should
use your finger to move the map in the direction you want, or tap on Search.
Enter an address in order to get to the relevant map section for the blocking you wish to put
in place.
By entering a distance starting from your current position
Tap on Avoid route in advance.
You can use the Avoid route in advance option to avoid a part of the planned route which is
directly ahead of you and an alternative route will be calculated.
You can stipulate the length of the part of your original route that you wish to block. For
example, if you select 10 km, the next 10 km of your current route will be blocked. However,
you can also select other kilometre numbers, e.g. 5 km + 10 km + 15 km. The distances
selected are added together and the total distance is blocked on your route (e.g. 30 km).
The actual length of the section selected depends on your system settings and on whether
you have made entries in kilometres or miles (cf. Chapter 2.5.21).
Confirm with Ok. The route is recalculated.
You can cancel the blocking of a section on a route in the Rerouting manager.
Avoid traffic jam reports (TMC)
If you tap on…, reports of current traffic jams are displayed. The traffic jams reported on the
calculated route can be taken into account and thus avoided.
The blocked routes are displayed in the Rerouting manager and they can be lifted again
here.
Rerouting manager
The Rerouting manager allows you to manage all the blockages you have set up. All
blockages are displayed in the list.
If you tap on Display, you can display a blockage
previously selected in the list on the map view.
The + symbol allows you to add a blockage.
The disk symbol allows you to set up a
permanent blockage.
With the X symbol you can delete a blockage
which was previously selected in the list.

2.4.10 Tours
You can also use your Falk Navigator to select several stop-off destinations and
arrange them together to form a tour. This function allows you to plan a route during which
you navigate to several destinations one after the other. You determine the order of the
destinations. The Falk Navigator always navigates you in order from the first to the last
destination on the tour. Once you reach a stop-off destination, all you need to do is confirm
your arrival.
Tap on the main menu on the Tours button.
A new screen opens up. You can either create a new tour or select a tour which has already
been created to navigate to the stops on the tour or make changes in the list.
Creating a new tour
To create a new tour, tap the New tour button. Use the keypad to enter a name for the tour.
The name you enter is displayed at the top of the navigation screen. If the name has already
been used for another tour, a corresponding message is displayed. Tap Accept to confirm
the name for the tour.
The new tour can now be populated with interim destinations for later navigation. Another
screen (detailed tour view) is displayed. If no interim destinations have been set up yet, an
empty list is displayed. Use the + button to add new interim destinations to the tour. You
can decide whether to add an address, a favourite, one of your recent destinations, your
home address, a special destination, a Travel Guide destination or a destination using
geo-coordinates.
The system navigates to all interim destinations in a tour in the sequence they are entered. If
you want to change the sequence of the interim destinations, you can do so using the curved
arrows.
Use the straight arrows to move between interim destinations and to select them (they are
marked in blue).
Click on Calculate in order to start the tour.
When you reach an interim destination in the tour, the “Next destination” button is
automatically shown on the navigation screen. Once you confirm by selecting this button, the
route to the next interim destination is calculated automatically. If you would like to continue
on to the subsequent interim destination before reaching the current one, tap the map or the
button to go to the main menu. Select the Next destination button, and you will be directed to
the next stop on your tour. The Next destination button can also be selected via the rapidaccess menu on certain products.
Destinations which you have already visited are marked as such and are no longer taken into
account when you continue your tour. The destination to which you are navigating is marked
in the list with a tick and grey lettering.
Note: You can use the Falk Navi-Manager to simply and easily put together a tour on the
website
www.falk.de and download it to your navigation device with all interim destinations.
For precise details about this, please consult the chapter on the Falk Navi-Manager (cf.
Chap. 5).

button. In this case, the options you select are applied to all interim destinations.
The following options are available:
The Visited option allows you to manually mark a destination as visited if you do not want to
go there. Destinations are also automatically marked as visited as you reach them. You can
also unmark a destination in order to include it in navigation by tapping the button again.
Use the Delete option to delete interim destinations.
The Map option is used to view the interim destination in the map view and to change the
destination manually if required.
Note: If you have clicked on the button in the overview, not all interim destinations can be
displayed on the map.
If you selected a special destination (POI) as an interim destination, you can also access
more detailed information about the special destination via the POI Details option. You will
then switch to the detailed view. More detailed information on the detailed view can be found
in Chapter 3.3.
Selecting and editing an existing tour
If you have created one or more tours, these are displayed in a list. Select the corresponding
tour by clicking on it. The blue background indicates that the tour has been selected. Tap
Calculate in order to recalculate the route starting with the first stop.
The magnifying glass symbol takes you to a detailed view of the interim destinations of a
tour. You must first select a tour by tapping on it. You can also add new interim destinations
in the detailed view using the + button. You can delete individual interim destinations by
tapping the Options button and then clicking on the Delete button and confirming by
selecting Yes.
In order to change the name of an existing tour, select it from the list. The name is
highlighted in blue. Tap the pen symbol. The name input field and the on-screen keypad are
displayed. Change the name or enter a new name. Confirm your selection with Accept. To
leave the input field without saving your changes, tap Cancel.
If you would like to delete an entire tour, you should tap X. You will be asked if you really
want to delete this tour. Confirm by tapping Yes.
Note: You can rename a tour while it is in progress, but you cannot edit or delete it. You
have to exit from a tour before you can edit it.
2.4.11 Next destination
If you are currently navigating a tour with a number of interim destinations, it is possible
in certain cases not to navigate directly to a number of destinations (e.g. Cologne Cathedral).
You have the following option of skipping an interim destination (e.g. a destination on a tour
of Cologne).
Tap the map view or the main menu button during navigation in order to return to the main
menu. Use the arrow keys to scroll through the main menu until the Next destination button is
displayed.
If you tap this button Next destination, the current interim destination on the tour will be
skipped. The route to the next interim destination on the tour will then be calculated.

2.4.12 SOS (optional)/ “My location” function
In emergency situations, rapid reactions are crucial. To ensure that rescue teams
can arrive on the scene as quickly as possible, it is essential to be able to provide exact
details of location. However, the persons involved are often suffering from shock and are
unable to cope with the situation. Frequently, they are not capable of providing precise
details of their whereabouts.
The navigation device is equipped with a function
which, in the event of an emergency, helps you to
give precise details of your current location. If
you tap on the SOS or My Location button in the
main menu (the name used depends on the
particular product type), a full written description
of your current location will be given. All you then
need to do is read out the details of where you
actually are.
If you are on a motorway or a trunk road, the road number such as the A8 or B191 will be
given rather than an actual address.
As well as providing details of your position, the display also gives more precise geocoordinates for your current location.
Note: In order to ensure that the Navigator can determine your current position, you must be
in a country for which map information is already installed on the navigation device.
Note: In a number of areas where there is no GPS reception or reception is inadequate, e.g.
in tunnels, garages, underpasses etc., it may not be possible to determine your current GPS
position using your mobile navigation device. As a result, the “Emergency call/aid” function
cannot be used or will not be fully functional in such situations.
If you are not sure whether the position displayed is your current position, you can tap the
Update button.
Devices which are equipped with a Bluetooth® function (optional) offer a direct dialling
feature for contacting the emergency services (in Germany only). However, it is important to
ensure that your navigation device is coupled to your mobile telephone. Please see Chapter
2.7.1 for details of how to couple the devices together.
To make a call to the emergency call centre, tap on the green telephone handset. The
correct emergency number for your location will be dialled automatically and this will work in
26 European countries.
Attention: Falk NAVIGATION GmbH accepts no responsibility for the emergency numbers
stored on the mobile Falk navigation device being correct or complete. The company accepts
no liability for damages of any kind resulting from the use of the information provided!
After you have given details of your current position, tap the red telephone receiver symbol in
order to end the telephone call. You should end the call only if the emergency services
centre has no further questions.
Note: It may not be possible to make telephone calls using your mobile Falk navigation
device in a number of areas where there is no or inadequate mobile telephone network
reception and in border or remote areas. In such situations, the “Emergency call/aid” function
on your mobile Falk navigation device will not work either!
Attention: Falk NAVIGATION GmbH accepts no responsibility for the reliability of any
mobile telephones. In the event of any queries or problems, please contact the particular
manufacturer of your mobile telephone (see also the declaration of conformity for your mobile
telephone).
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 47 -
Note: In Germany and in the majority of other countries, it is a criminal offence to
deliberately or knowingly make hoax calls to the emergency services (see section
145 of the German Criminal Code (StGB)). Any persons who make such hoax calls are also
liable to compensate the relevant organisations.
2.4.13 Trip computer – Configure route information
The trip computer provides you with extensive travel information about your current

2.4.18 Delete route/manual mode
When you do not wish to use the Falk Navigator to navigate to a specific destination, you can
still use manual mode to track your progress in the map view. Manual mode continuously
updates your current position as you drive. A number of functions that can also be used
during navigation are available as well.
You are automatically in manual mode if you have not entered a destination. If you want to
enter the map view in manual mode from the main menu, select Map.
Are you currently navigating to a destination of your choice or simulating a route, but you
would like to switch to manual mode? During the navigation/simulation, you should return to
the main menu. There you should tap on the button Delete route, Delete simulation or
Cancel tour. You then automatically enter manual mode.
Note: Since there is no route calculation in manual mode, route-specific displays are not
shown and no navigation information is provided (e.g. turn left after 300 m). If you are
receiving TMC traffic information (optional), you can have it displayed in the map view by
selecting the TMC button.
2.4.19 Route list

Orientated means that the map is always orientated to the north and your direction of
movement is shown on the map in relation to north.
Auto zoom: Use the Auto-zoom on/off button to activate or deactivate the Falk Navigator
automatic zoom function. When the auto-zoom function is activated, the Falk Navigator
adjusts the map display size to the current travel speed. Depending on the current setting,
the display changes from Auto-zoom on to Auto-zoom off.
POI display on map: You can use the POIs on map button to select from the available POI
categories which POI categories should be displayed on the map.
POI display: The POI display button enables you to determine whether the special
destinations that are shown in the form of icons when navigating from the navigation screen
are displayed with or without names. Each time you tap the button, the POI display settings
are changed and the POIs are either shown or hidden as the case may be.
Split Screen Pro display (optional): You can use the Large arrow display / Split Screen
map button to change the way that the Split Screen Pro display is shown on the navigation
screen.
Reality view on/off (optional): This button allows
you to activate/deactivate the reality view (cf.
Chapter 2.2.2).

2.5.2 Volume
Use the Volume option to adjust or mute the navigation device volume. Two volume
adjustment levels are available. The first level establishes the system volume for your device.
The second, advanced level allows you to adjust the volume for individual Falk Navigator
functions separately if required.
In order to change or mute the system volume, first tap the Volume button. You can increase
the volume by tapping the plus symbol or decrease the volume by tapping the minus symbol.
The volume setting is shown by an indicator bar which displays the current setting in relation
to the maximum volume.
You can also mute the volume in a single step. When you tap the speaker symbol, the
volume is muted. To deactivate the mute setting, tap the speaker symbol, the plus symbol, or
the minus symbol.
Confirm your selection with Ok or exit the screen with Cancel.
In a second level, you can adjust the volume settings for the speakers, the Travel Guide,
MP3 player, Bluetooth® (optional), and system keypad tones separately.
To bring up the advanced volume settings, tap Advanced on the volume settings screen.
You can increase the volume (speaker, Travel Guide, MP3 player, system sounds, and
Bluetooth® (optional)) by tapping the plus symbol, or decrease the volume by tapping the
minus symbol – just as in the main volume settings screen.
Note: If you change the speaker volume, this setting also affects the speed camera and
speed limit warning functions.
Tap Ok to save your settings and exit the screen. This takes you back to the main volume
settings level. Tap Cancel to exit the screen without saving your settings.
Note: The advanced volume settings are always related to the system volume. Therefore,
changing the system volume always changes the volume of the individual Falk Navigator
functions as well.
2.5.3 Speed camera detector
The speed camera detector is an integrated additional function which, in combination
with corresponding speed camera data, warns you when you approach locations where
stationary speed cameras (speed traps) are installed. If you want to use this function, you
can use the Falk Navi-Manager (cf. Chapter 5) to download European speed camera
locations from the Internet free of charge and install them on your mobile navigation device.
Only after you have done this will this function be available on your navigation device.
To switch on the function in the Falk Navigator, tap on the Speed camera detector button on
the Settings menu. You will then be warned accordingly when you approach a speed
camera. To switch the function off again, tap on the button again.
Note: The numeric display on the speed camera detector symbol refers to the unit in which
speed is measured in a particular country. If 50 is displayed in Germany, this refers to the
speed limit in km/h. When driving in England, the display refers to 50 miles per hour.
Note: Even after you install speed camera data on your mobile navigation device, the speed
camera detector must be activated in the Settings menu before each navigation.
Attention: It is illegal to use the speed camera detector in certain countries. Please verify
whether you are allowed to use the speed camera detector in the country you are in. The
speed camera detector is considered operational as soon as you install speed camera data
on your device.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 52 -
If you are unsure about using the speed camera detector, we recommend that
before navigating anywhere you uninstall the speed camera detector via the Falk
Navi-Manager on your device.
Switzerland: Speed camera detector data for Switzerland is not included in FMI products. It
can also not be downloaded via the Internet.
Germany: “Operation of the speed camera detector and carrying a speed camera detector
which is operational with you is not permitted in the area covered by the German Road
Traffic Regulations pursuant to § 23 para. 1b of the German Road Traffic Regulations.
Please note that the speed camera detector may only be used for route planning and
must be uninstalled before you make trips via the Falk Navi-Manager on the device.”
Starting the speed camera detector
1. Install the Falk Navi-Manager on your PC. Please consult Chapter 5 for more detailed
information about how to install the Falk Navi-Manager.
2. Connect your navigation device via a USB cable to your PC. Your PND will be recognised
by means of ActiveSync.
3. Start the Falk Navi-Manager on your PC via Start/Programs/Falk/Navi-Manager or by
double-clicking the Falk Navi-Manager icon on your desktop.
4. The Falk Navi-Manager will then check whether any new data is available to download. If
any new speed camera data is available, place a tick in the dialog window to download this
data to your device. The Navi-Manager also allows you to define whether an automatic
update search for new speed camera data should be carried out every time you start the
program.
Attention: If you wish to use the speed camera detector, you need to activate it before you
set off. Select the Settings button on the main menu. You should then select the Speed camera detector button. The Speed camera detector is activated when the symbol is no
longer crossed through.
2.5.4 Brightness
The Falk Navigator can navigate in day or night display mode. In night display mode, the
display brightness is reduced so that you are not blinded during hours of darkness.
The brightness settings have a major effect on how much power your navigation device
consumes. You can set the brightness as a function of the power source being used.
This is how to set the brightness to your own preference.
Select on the main menu Settings> Brightness.
Select, by touching the +/- buttons or the guide line, a brightness level for the day view, for
battery mode and power connection as you require.
Then confirm by tapping Next.
Then select the brightness level for the night view.
Then confirm by tapping Next.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 53 -
2.5.5 Speed warner
The Navigator is equipped with a speed warning feature for main roads and motorways.
You can use this feature to let the system warn you when you exceed the legal speed limit.
You have a choice of an optical warning or a combination optical & acoustic warning.
Conditional speed limits that only apply in case of certain weather conditions (e.g. rain) or
during certain times can also be included. In this case, a rain / clock symbol is displayed in
the navigation screen in addition to the standard speed limit sign.
The speed warning function is inactive the first time you start your navigation device. Select
the speed warning feature in the settings menu by tapping it.
A new screen is displayed. You can select an optical warning or a combination optical &
acoustic warning. To deactivate the speed warning feature, select No warning. Then select
Ok. If you selected No Warning, you will be taken back to the settings menu.
If you have activated the speed warning feature, you can now establish the minimum speed
at which notification begins. This can be specified separately for urban areas, country roads,
and motorways. You can choose to be notified when you reach the legal speed limit or when
you exceed it by 5, 10, 15, or 20 km/h. Use the arrow keys to the left and right of the
numbers to establish your personal speed limit. Then select Next.
In this screen, you can decide whether you want to include conditional speed limits. The rain
button is used to include weather-dependent (rain-dependent) speed limit changes; when
this option is activated, you will be notified according to the speed limit that applies in case of
rain or your personal speed limit (in relation to the legal speed limit). When this function is
deactivated, the button is crossed out.
The time period button is used to include speed limits that only apply during certain time
periods. A time period can refer to a range of dates (from 01.01 to 31.07) or times (from 6:00
am to 6:00 pm). You will be notified according to speed limits that apply to certain time
periods or your personal speed limit (in relation to the legal speed limit) if you are travelling
on an applicable section during the time period when the alternative speed limit applies.
When this function is deactivated, the button is crossed out.
To save your settings, tap Ok. Note: Speed limits usually correspond to the traffic signs for the legal speed limit. When you
are in a country where speeds are specified in mp/h while your navigation device is set to
use km/h as the unit of distance, the speed limit in mp/h is converted to km/h. This means
that the converted numbers on the display will not correspond to the numbers shown on the
traffic signs.
2.5.6 Day/night mode
If you select the day/night display mode option, you can view and modify the currently
selected screen mode. If you want the system to
automatically switch between day and night
display mode, simply tap Automatic day/night.
This setting keeps the screen in day display
mode from sunrise to sunset; outside this period
or in long tunnels, it switches to night display
mode. If you do not want the system to change
modes automatically, select either day display
mode or night display mode. The screen remains
in the selected mode until you change the setting.
Confirm with Ok.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 54 -
2.5.7 Setting/changing the home address (Home)
Use the Set home option to enter your home address in order to permanently store it as
a preferred destination. This allows you to select this address as a navigation destination
quickly and directly by using the Home symbol. You can also select Home as the starting
point or destination for route planning.
Tap Set home in the settings menu.
You can enter your home address using the onscreen keypad or select one of your recent
destinations, or a point on the map.
Confirm your selection with Accept. The display automatically changes to the settings menu.
Note: If you have not set up your home address yet, you can do so the first time you select
the Set home button in the destination selection screen. Once you have set up the home
address, the caption of the button in the destination selection screen changes from Set home to Home.
The address you have entered can be changed at any time by entering a new address. To
view the address you have established as your home address, go to Favourites in the main
menu.
2.5.8 Define favourite lists
Define which of the favourite lists containing favourites you wish to access in the Travel
Guide.
Requirement: You have created your own favourite lists in the Falk Internet Community and
transferred them to your navigation device.
To do this, register at places.falk.de and expand your Travel Guide using the Falk Navi-
Manager to include numerous POIs with pictures, ratings and comments from other users.
You can find out how to do this in Chapter on the Falk Navi-Manager.
Choose Main menu> Settings> Define favourite lists.
You will gain direct access to the favourite lists which you have transferred from the Falk
Internet Community to your navigation device.
Activate or deactivate the list you want by placing a tick next to it. The content of the
activated lists is available to you in the Travel Guide under favourite lists. Confirm your
selection with OK.
2.5.9 Speaker output - FM transmitter (optional)
You can use the Speaker output option in
the settings menu to determine whether sound is
output via the device’s built-in speaker, or via
your car radio using the FM transmitter (optional).
If you decide to use your device's internal
speaker, all navigation announcements will be
output via the navigation device's speaker.
If you have opted for FM transmission to your
car radio, an additional screen will open after you click on the OK button.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 55 -
The FM transmitter transmits the audio signal from your navigation device to your
car radio via the FM waveband. To do this, you must first select an available
transmission frequency in your navigator and then tune your car radio to the same frequency.
When you select the FM transmitter, you also have the option of selecting, changing and
using a pre-set frequency. You should first look for a radio frequency which is free or check
whether one of the pre-set frequencies is free.
If no radio station is broadcasting on a pre-set
frequency, you may then use that frequency. If the
particular frequency is not allowed in certain
countries, you can tap the Advanced button in
order to change and then use one or more
frequencies.
Tap the 0.1, 0.2 and 1.0 buttons to change the
frequency either upwards or downwards.
Note: In a number of countries, it is illegal to broadcast on specific frequencies. For example:
in the USA, odd frequencies are not allowed. If you select such a frequency, the OK button
will be deactivated.
Tapping OK will save the settings you have made. The frequency selected will also be
available when you next select a pre-set frequency.
If you are in possession of a Car Kit (optional) and have activated the Car Kit option in the
settings menu, you will also be given the option of having the sound output via the Car Kit.
2.5.10 TMC station (optional)
The Falk Navigator navigation software is able to receive TMC (Traffic Message
Channel) messages regarding current traffic disruptions such as traffic jams. TMC is a digital
messaging service that transmits traffic messages along with a radio station signal. It
therefore requires reception of a suitable radio station. If a TMC receiver is connected and
TMC messages are being transmitted along with the radio station signal, your navigation
device will supply information about the reasons for a traffic disruption, the affected roads or
street, the affected section, and the extent of the disruption. You can take the reports into
account in your route calculation and avoid the traffic jam with ease. The Falk Navigator then
allows you to integrate this data into the navigation system and suggests an alternative route
where appropriate. TMC messages are not considered in route planning.
TMC Pro (optional): Unlike TMC, TMC Pro is based on automatic data sensors on
motorway overpasses, sensor strips integrated into the road surface, and sensors in vehicles
(floating car technology). Traffic jams and their development are recognised early on and can
be considered when calculating alternative routes.
Note: TMCpro is an optional service and not preinstalled on all devices.
TMCpro is available to you for 90 days after the first GPS fix as a test version (TMCpro
Starter) and can then be purchased on the Internet in the Falk Online Shop at
http://shop.gofalk.com/falk/.
Please consult the details given on the product packaging for your navigation device.
You can use the TMC messages menu item to establish what types of TMC traffic messages
your Falk Navigator should consider during navigation, or to deactivate this function
completely.
Select one of the following options. The selected symbol is highlighted in white.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 56 -
•TMCpro + TMC: both TMC and TMC Pro messages are considered during
navigation.
• TMCpro: you only receive TMCpro messages.
• TMC: you only receive TMC messages.
Note (applies to TMCpro+TMC, TMCPro, TMC): If
there are traffic jams on your route, Falk Navigator
asks you if you want to take the traffic jams into
account. A check will then be carried out to
determine whether there is a better alternative
route. If a better route is available, it will be
suggested to you.
Select TMC off to deactivate this function completely. No TMC messages are then received.
This also means that no traffic reports are shown during navigation.
Confirm your selection with Ok.
2.5.11 Battery
Use the Battery option to view the remaining battery capacity for your mobile navigation
device. This option only applies if your device is running in battery mode, i.e. when it is not

2.6 Voice control (optional)
With some products, it is possible to control the Falk Navigator with voice commands in
addition to the onscreen menus.
For example, you can enter your destination address using voice commands. The Falk
Navigator recognises your commands and then navigates to the desired destination
town/city.
Note: Please familiarise yourself with the voice commands and the voice control system
functionality before using this function while driving.
Note: The voice commands have to be articulated exactly in order for the device to
recognise them.
2.6.1 Activating voice control
To activate voice control, select the voice control symbol. This symbol is found on all
screens with functions that can be controlled using the voice control system.
Two central symbols characterise the voice control function:
Listen: when voice control announcements are being made.
Speak: indicates that the device is ready to receive your spoken entries.
An audible and visual feedback signal indicates that voice control has been activated. You
can start using voice commands after you hear this signal. The voice control symbol switches
to speak.
Note: When voice control is activated, the acoustic output of other applications (e.g. MP3
Player, Travel Guide) is automatically muted.
Note: Reducing the volume of other output devices while using voice control is
recommended. If background noise from devices such as the radio is excessive, voice
recognition problems may result.
Note: Voice control cannot be activated while you are making a telephone call using your
navigation device’s Bluetooth® hands-free speaking system.

Follow the voice control instructions.
Note: When entering the address, you cannot change the country using voice commands.
If you would like to change the destination country, tap the button with the national flag.
Voice control is deactivated. Once you have selected the desired country, you can reactivate
voice control again.
In order to navigate to the centre of the town/city,
say the command City centre when you are
prompted to select an entry from the list.
If during destination entry the city or street you
want is not offered in the selection list, you can
repeat your entry after uttering the command
Repeat (instead of entering a row number).
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 64 -
Note: It is not possible to enter your destination via the postcode using voice
control.
Street addresses between 1 and 1000 are valid (e.g. 512).
If you do not wish to enter a street address, say the command Street centre when prompted
to select an entry from the list. The route is then calculated to the middle of the street.
Once you enter the street address and after route calculation is complete, the signal will
sound and you can launch navigation by saying the command Navigation.
If during destination entry you wish to select categories which are on the second screen,
please use the commands “Next” or “Scroll”. Note: Place and street names must be entered in the language of the respective destination
country. For example, you have to say the command “Nice” (pronounced niece) if you wish to
travel to “Nice” in France.
Note: If the device is unable to recognise one of your commands, you will be prompted to
repeat it. If the command is not recognised after you repeat it, voice control mode is
automatically deactivated.
If you have activated the option Ask route options on the Settings menu, you have the
option of changing your current route options by voice command before your route is actually
calculated. To select the appropriate route options, utter the text beneath the button you
require (e.g. Car, Clever, Toll, Calculate). It is not necessary to change all route options. You
can cancel the change process at any time by uttering the command Calculate.
Voice control is automatically deactivated when navigation begins.
Navigating to favourites
If you want to navigate to a favourite using voice control, a favourite must first have been
created. Proceed in the manner described above.
Navigating to recent destinations
All destinations you enter into your navigation device and navigate to are stored in a list of
recent destinations. You can access this list using voice control.
Note: If you have not previously entered any destinations, the Recent destinations button is
deactivated and you cannot select recent destinations using voice control or onscreen input.
Navigating to your home address
You can use voice control to navigate to your home address.
Activate voice control. After the signal sounds, say the command Home. Route calculation
starts automatically.
To start navigation, say the command Navigation. Voice control is automatically
deactivated.
Special destinations
Special destinations can be selected for navigation using voice control. For example, you can
navigate to rest areas or petrol stations with a few voice commands during your trip.
Tap the Destination entry button on the main menu. Activate the voice control mode.
After the signal sounds, say the command Special destinations. The menu changes to
display all available special destination categories; the navigation device prompts you to
select a category. To do so, wait for the signal to sound and then say the word underneath
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 65 -
the symbol for the special destination (e.g. Hotels). It is important to say the word
exactly the way it appears.
Note: If you select the All categories category, all available special destinations are shown
in the form of a list. Select the desired category by saying the number of the respective list
entry (1-6). You can use the commands Up and Down to move through the list if required.
Note: The Help command can be used to display all available commands on the navigation
screen.
You will now be prompted for a location where you want to search for special destinations.
You can search for special destinations in the vicinity of your current location, the current
destination, along the route, the centre of a town/city, an address, a favourite, another
special destination or a position on the map. To do so, use the exact text underneath the
desired symbol as a voice command.
If you select the Location command, the system will search for special destinations in the
vicinity of your current location.
Your current position cannot be determined if you have insufficient GPS reception. In this
case, the map shows your last known position or the centre of the available map, and voice
control is deactivated.
You can only use the Current destination command when navigation is active.
You can only select the command Along the route if you are navigating to a destination and
are travelling along the calculated route.
If you select City centre, please proceed as you would when entering an address. Instead of
a complete address, only enter the place name using voice control.
If you wish to select a destination from the 2nd destination entry screen, say the command
Scroll or Next.
To search for a special destination around a special destination, select the command
Special destination. You will then be shown a numbered list of the special destination
categories that are available. Select a category by saying the appropriate row number. You
can scroll through the entries with the arrow keys.
If you select the Map position command, your current or last known position is displayed
depending on your GPS reception. Voice control is automatically deactivated.
Note: (Applies to the Location and Map position commands.) You cannot change the map
position using voice control; instead, you have to tap the desired point on the map in order to
move the push-pin indicator manually. Voice control is automatically deactivated.
Once you have clearly identified the location where you want to search for special
destinations, a list of special destinations in the desired category is displayed. The special
destinations are listed according to their distance from the defined reference location. After
the signal sounds, say the number of the respective list entry (1-6) in order to select a special
destination. The route is calculated automatically.
Then say the command Navigation to activate navigation mode. Voice control is
automatically deactivated.

2.6.4 Voice control - Short command
The voice control’s short command function allows you to use short commands to navigate
immediately to a nearby POI (petrol station, car park, hotel, restaurant, fast food, hospital).
The nearest POI in the appropriate category will automatically be navigated to.
Select destination entry via the Main menu or via the Rapid-access menu from the
navigation view. Activate voice control in the manner described above.
To navigate to the nearest POI in the appropriate category, utter one of the following
commands:
• “Nearest petrol station“
• “Nearest car park”
• “Nearest hotel”
• “Nearest restaurant“
• “Nearest fast food“
• “Nearest hospital”
The route to the nearest POI is calculated.
Requirement: GPS signals are being received.
Note: If you have already calculated a route, the search for the selected POI takes place
along the route. If no route has been calculated yet, the search for the selected POI takes place around your current position.
Note: If the POI categories on your navigation device are not available because they might
have been deleted, the commands are inactive. In this case, you must transfer the POIs
which are supplied on the Content DVD to your navigation device again. Please consult the
chapter on the Falk Navi-Manager for more information about this (cf. Chapter 5).
Note: The Help command can be used to display all available commands on the navigation

3 Travel Guide (optional)
The Travel Guide is the multimedia electronic travel guide in your Falk Navigator. With
the Travel Guide, you can discover romantic squares, cosy cafés, the finest delicatessens
and everything else a town or city has to offer. In addition to the short descriptions of
attractions based on carefully researched information, many destinations in the Travel Guide
are presented using images as well. These give you a vivid idea of what you can expect to
see during your trip before you have even set off.
With preinstalled, detailed MARCO POLO Travel Guide content for hundreds of cities and
hundreds of thousands of POIs (Points of Interest), in some cases with descriptive text,
pictures and audio output, the Travel Guide is not just your perfect travel companion, but will
also guide you to some extraordinary sights.
With the Falk Travel Guide you can also create your own Favourites to expand the
preinstalled POIs and share them with other Falk users via the Falk Internet Community (cf.
Chapter 5).
You can read more about the Falk Travel Guide in the Glossary.
The chapters which follow will describe to you how in the Travel Guide you can search
specifically for tourist destinations, add new destinations, rate them and swap them and in so
doing obtain the information you want about your destination.
3.1 Establishing a starting point
The first thing you need to do is establish a starting point for your search. The structure of the
Travel Guide is then described so that you can search for specific tourist destinations or
simply browse and find out more about the tourist attractions which are of interest to you.
You can choose a central point for your search when putting together a travel guide.
When it comes to selecting a central point for your search, you can choose your current
location, a current destination (if you are navigating to a particular destination), a town/city
centre, one of your favourites or a destination close to your Home address. You may
also call up a Travel Guide or simply open a recent position which you already called up at
an earlier point in time.
If your starting point is your current location, it is important that the navigation system has
identified your current GPS position. If this is not the case, a map view will open. The last
location saved will be shown in the map view. Tap the Update position button in the map
view and your current position will be updated.
If the position displayed corresponds to your current location, tap Continue.
If you would like to create a Travel Guide for a particular address or town/city centre, you will
be prompted to enter the address or the name of the town/city using the keypad.
If you would like to search for one of your favourites, you must first create personal
favourites of your own. See Chapter 2.4.6 for details of how to do this.
Recent positions are displayed in a list. You can scroll between recent positions using the
arrow keys. You can select an entry by tapping it. If you then click on the Accept button, it
will be established as the central point for your search.
Once you have established the central point for your search, a view with all available theme
categories will appear.
User Manual Falk Navigator 10 - 77 -
3.2 Travel Guide theme category
Travel Guide destinations (POIs) are sorted according to specific themes. Each theme is
identified by a symbol. As a result, you can see at a glance the content of a particular theme.
Depending on where you have established the central point for your search, all theme
categories or only certain theme categories will be available to you. If the central point for
your search is in a large city such as Berlin, you are certain to find destinations as well as
additional information in all theme categories. If your search is centred on a smaller
settlement or a rural area, only those theme categories for which Travel Guide destinations
are available will be displayed.
If no destinations are available for a particular theme category, this category will not be
displayed on the screen.
You can select a theme category by tapping on it.
3.2.1 Top Highlights
If you select the Top Highlights category, you need never worry about missing out on
the most important attractions in your search area (e.g. Berlin city centre). Top Highlights are
must-see attractions. It is useful to have a summary of all important attractions, particularly if
you are only staying in your search area for a short period of time.
First click on the Travel Guide button in the main menu, establish the central point for your
search and finally click on the Top Highlights button. All of the destinations available in your
search area are shown in a list and are sorted according to distance. This means that
destinations which are closest to the central point for your search appear first in the list.
Note: The distances in the POI list indicate the distance to the destination as the crow flies.
The exact distance to be covered is not determined until the route is calculated.
Note: The Top Highlights category contains general destinations which can be found in
other theme categories as well.
Detailed view
By tapping on the list entry again you can in the detailed view display further information
(pictures, telephone numbers or descriptive texts) for a POI, or you can start route calculation
by tapping on the Calculate button.
For further information on the detailed view for a list entry, please read Chapter 3.3.

3.2.2 Favourite lists
Define which of your favourite lists that you have created in the Falk Internet
Community (cf. Chap 5.5) you wish to access in the Travel Guide.
Tap Main menu> Travel Guide. In a further step, you should stipulate your search centre
(cf. Chap. 3.1) and then select the button Favourite lists. Requirement: You have created your own favourite lists in the Falk Internet Community
and transferred them to your navigation device. You can register at
