INTRODUCTION
The EZ-ACCESS® PATHWAY® MODULAR Ramp System was built to address the acce ss i bi lity needs of the residential market. We have created a whole new concept f or designing, ordering, and installing the perfect modular ramp system. Particular attention to appearance, ease of installation, and durability are key to our design.

EZ-ACCESS® manufactures ramps for residential use only and is not to be used for commercial purposes. To ensure the highest quality and safety possible, EZ-ACCESS Modular ramps were designed with the ADA specifications in mind.
Although not binding to personal residences, these standards should be taken into consideration when purchasing a modul ar r am p.

WHERE DO MODULAR RAMPS FIT IN?

As it relates to ramps, the AD AAG specifies how steep (incline) a ramp must be, ramp width, handrail design, etc. The EZ-ACCESS PATHWAY

Modular Ramp System was designed with the ADAAG requirements in mind. Although a ramp system instal led at a pr ivate residence typically is not obligated to meet ADAAG r equirements, by following these guidelines the end user is assured acceptable levels of convenience, comfort, and safety :
4.8.1 GENERAL
Any part of an accessible rout e with a slope greater than 1:20 shal l be co nsidered a ramp and shall comply with 4.8.
4.8.2 SLOPE AND RISE
The maximum slope of a ramp in new construc tion shall be 1:12. The maximum ris e f or any single ramp run shall be 30-inch es (760 mm). Curb ra m ps and ramps to be constructed on ex isting sites or in existing buildings or facilities shall be permitted to have slopes and rises provided spa ce l imitations prohibit use of a 1:12 may hav e slopes and rises as follows (4.1.6):
1) A slope betw een 1:10 and 1:12 is allowed for a m aximum rise of 6-inches.
2) A slope betw een 1:8 and 1:10 is allowed for a max i mu m rise of 3-inches. A slope
steeper than 1:8 is not allowed.
4.8.3 CLEAR WIDTH
The minimum clear w idth of a ra mp shall be 36-inches (915 mm) (see FIG A).
4.8.4 LANDING
Ramps shall have level la ndi ngs ( platforms) at the bottom and top o f each ramp and each ramp run. Landings shall have the foll ow ing features:
1) Landin g w idt h shall be at least as wide as the ramp run leading to it.
2) Landin g length shall be 60 inches (1525 mm) m inimum clear.
3) Ramps t hat change direction at landings (p latf orms) shall have a 5’x 5’ (1525 mm by
1525 mm) minimum landing (platfor m).
4) If a doorway is located at a landing (platfor m), t hen the area in front of the doorway
shall comply with 4.13.6.
4.13.6 MANE UV E RING C LEARANCES A T DOOR S
Minimum maneuvering cl earances at doors that are not aut omatic or power assisted shall be as shown in FIG A. The floor or gr ound area within the require d cle ar ances shall be level and clear.
4.8.5 HA NDRAILS
If a ramp run has a rise greater than 6-inches (150 mm) or a run great er t han 72-inches (1833 mm), then it shall have handrail s on both sides. Handrails shall co m ply with 4.26 and have the following features:
1) Handrails shall be provided along both s ide s of ramp segments. The inside handrail on
switchback (turn back plat form) or dogleg (turn platform) ramps shall always be continuous.

2) If handrails are not continuous, they shall extend at least 12-inches (305 m m) beyond the
top and bottom of the ramp segment and shall be parallel with the f loor or gr ound surface (see FIG A).
3) The clear space between the handrail and the wall shall be 1½-inches (38 mm).
4) Gripp ing s ur fa c es shall be continuous.
5) Top of handr ail gripping surface shal l be mou nted between 34” and 38” (865 mm and 965
mm) above ramp surfaces.
6) Ends of h andrails shall be either rounded or returned smoothly to floor, w all, or post.
7) Handrails shall not rotate within their f ittings.
4.8.6 CROS S SLOPE AND SURFACES
The cross slope of ramp surfac es shall be no greater than 1:50; ramp surf aces shall comply with 4.5:
4.5.1 GENERAL
Ground and floor surfaces along accessible routes and in acces s ib le rooms and spaces including floors, walks, r amp s, stairs, and curb ramps, shall be sta ble, firm, slip­resistant and comply with 4. 5.
4.8.7 EDGE PROTECTION
Ramps and landings (platf or m s) w it h dr op-offs shall have curbs, walls, r ai lin gs, or projecting surfaces that prevent people from slipping off the ramp. Curbs shall be a minimum of 2-inches (50 mm) high (see FIG A).
4.8.8 OUTDOOR CONDITIONS
Outdoor ramps and their approaches shall be designed so t hat water will not accumulate on walking surfaces.
