This symbol is intended to alert the user of the presence of uninsulated dangerous voltage within the product's enclosure that may present a risk of electric shock.
Caution
Read Instructions • Read and understand all safety and operating
instructions before using the equipment.
Retain Instructions • The safety instructions should be kept for future
reference.
Follow Warnings • Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the
equipment or in the user information.
Avoid Attachments • Do not use tools or attachments that are not
recommended by the equipment manufacturer because they may be hazardous.
Warning
Power sources • This equipment should be operated only from the power source
indicated on the product. This equipment is intended to be used with a main power system with a grounded (neutral) conductor. The third (grounding) pin is a safety feature, do not attempt to bypass or disable it.
Power disconnection • To remove power from the equipment safely, remove all
power cords from the rear of the equipment, or the desktop power module (if detachable), or from the power source receptacle (wall plug).
Power cord protection • Power cords should be routed so that they are not likely to
be stepped on or pinched by items placed upon or against them.
Servicing • Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. There are no user-
serviceable parts inside. To prevent the risk of shock, do not attempt to service this equipment yourself because opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards.
Slots and openings • If the equipment has slots or holes in the enclosure, these are
provided to prevent overheating of sensitive components inside. These openings must never be blocked by other objects.
Lithium battery • There is a danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced.
Replace it only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer. Dispose of used batteries according to the manufacturer's instructions.

About this Manual
This manual contains information about the Extron SW2 VGA DA2 A and SW2 VGA DA2 AF switchers and details on how to operate and configure them.
About the SW2 VGA DA2 A/AF
The SW2 VGA DA2 A/AF is a two-input computer-video switcher with two buffered outputs and 300 MHz (-3dB) video bandwidth. It accepts two VGA-UXGA computer-video and two stereo audio inputs. It also features two buffered VGAUXGA outputs and one stereo audio output. With an optional Macintosh/VGA adapter, the SW2 VGA DA2 A/AF can also switch and distribute Macintosh signals.
Front panel buttons, a contact closure controller, or the autoswitching option can be used for input selection.
Features
Autoswitching ability — The SW2 VGA DA2 A/AF can detect
active sync signals and automatically switch to the active input.
Furniture mountability — The SW2 VGA DA2 A/AF can be
mounted under a desk or podium with the included hardware, or it can be mounted through a desk or other furniture with optional vertical mounting brackets.
Stereo audio — Unbalanced stereo audio inputs can be output
as balanced or unbalanced stereo audio.
Dual power connectors — Connect the switcher to a 12VDC
power supply with either the 3.5 mm audio-style jack, or the 3.8 mm, 3-pole captive screw connector. Extron’s power supply (part #28-071-02) comes with a jack connector, but another 12VDC, 1 A power source (such as Extron part #70-055-01) can be used instead and connected via the captive screw connector.

2. Cut out the material from the rough-in area with a jigsaw. Check the opening size by inserting the switcher part way through the hole. if needed, use a saw, file, or sandpaper to enlarge the hole. Smooth the edges of the hole with sandpaper.
3. Attach the through-desk mounting brackets to the SW2 VGA DA2 A/AF with the four provided machine screws, as shown in the through-desk mounting diagram on the next page.

Installation Overview
To install and set up the SW2 VGA DA2 A/AF for operation, follow these steps:
1
Turn all of the equipment off. Make sure that the video and audio sources (computers, stereos, tape decks or other devices), the SW2 VGA DA2 A/AF, the output devices (projectors, speakers), and contact closure control device are all turned off and disconnected from the power source.
2
Mount the switcher. See “Mounting the SW2 VGA DA2 A/AF” in this chapter.
3
Attach the cables. See “Cabling” in this chapter.
4
Connect power cords and turn on the devices in the following order: output devices, contact closure controller, SW2 VGA DA2 A/AF switcher, and input devices.
5
Select an input from the front panel buttons or the contact closure controller.
6
The image should now display, and sound should be audible. If not, ensure that all devices are plugged in and receiving power. Check the cabling and make adjustments as needed. Select a different input to check for a picture and sound. See “Troubleshooting” in this chapter.
Mounting the SW2 VGA DA2 A/AF
When mounting the switcher, take cabling and power availability into consideration. Select under-desk (standard) or through-desk (optional) mounting. Follow the appropriate installation guide on the next three pages.
Under-desk mounting
1. Attach the under-desk mounting brackets to the SW2 VGA DA2 A/AF with the six provided machine screws, as shown in the under-desk mounting diagram.
2. Hold the interface with attached brackets against the mounting surface. Use a soft pencil to mark the location of holes for screws on the desk or other furniture.
3. Drill 1/4” (6.4 mm) deep, 3/32” (2 mm) diameter pilot holes in the table or desk at the marked screw locations from the underside/inside (concealed side) of the furniture, where the switcher will be located.

If both inputs have an active sync signal present, the highest input, input 2, will be used, and the input 2 indicator LED will light. If no active sync signal is present, neither input indicator LED will light.
Autoswitching overrides manual input selection. If autoswitching is on, contact closure and front panel input selection will be disabled.

Operation
1. Make sure that all the input and output devices and the
switcher are powered on.
2. If the switcher is in manual switching mode, select an
input from the front panel buttons or by using the contact closure controller.
3. If the switcher is in autoswitching mode (rear panel

4. The image should now appear on screen, and sound from
the audio source should be audible.

• If pins 4 and 5 are not connected, manual switching is enabled. Selections can be made via the front panel selection switches and the contact closure device.
If no active sync signal is present, the input 2 indicator LED will still light.
Cabling
Attach cables to the switcher as detailed in the steps below. The diagram in this section shows how the system looks when cabling is finished.
1. Attach the computers’ video output cables to the switcher
via the 15-pin HD female input connectors. If the computers will provide the audio input, VGA with audio combination cables, such as the Extron VGA HRA series (#29-491-01 to #29-491-05), can be used.
2. Connect the cables from the stereo audio sources
(computers or other devices such as CD players or tape decks) to the audio input jacks. The audio plug should be wired as shown below.

4. Connect the speakers’ or other audio output device’s cable
to the switcher’s audio output captive screw connector.
5. Attach the contact closure device to the left three pins of
the 5-pole captive screw AS/REMOTE connector.
6. Connect power cords and turn on the devices in the
following order: display and audio output devices (projectors, monitors, speakers), contact closure controller, SW2 VGA DA2 A/AF switcher, and input devices (computers, audio sources).
Use either the captive screw connector or the jack for connecting the 12VDC power supply to the SW2 VGA DA2 A/AF. Do not use both at the same time.

Troubleshooting
If the image does not appear or there is no sound
1. Ensure that all devices are plugged in to a power source.
2. Make sure that each device is receiving power.
If the switcher is in manual switch mode, one of the input indicator LEDs should light on the front panel of the SW2 VGA DA2 A/AF. If the switcher is in autoswitching mode and there is no active incoming sync signal detected, the input indicator LEDs will not light. However, the autoswitching indicator LED should light when the autoswitching mode is on. If no LED lights, check to make sure the power connector is properly wired and neither conductor is connected to the middle pole.
3. Check the cabling and the audio connector wiring, and
make adjustments as needed.
4. Select a different input to check for a display and sound.
