MTP AV Series • Setup Guide
IMPORTANT:
Go to www.extron.com for the complete
user guide, installation instructions, and
specifications before connecting the
product to the power source.
This guide provides basic instructions for an experienced installer to set up and operate any of the Extron
MTP AV transmission systems.
Pre-installation — Jumpers
The units are factory-set so that one unit cannot remotely power another and to handle mono audio.
They can be set to handle stereo audio and provide remote power. A stereo audio unit is only
compatible with older generation units.
The appearance and location of the jumper block change with each unit. See the illustration above or
see the MTP AV Series User Guide at www.extron.com to set the jumpers for the units to be installed.
Installation
Step 1 — Mounting
Turn off or disconnect all equipment power sources and mount the MTP transmitter and receiver as required.
Step 2 — Transmitter Inputs
NOTE: The illustration on the right shows the available connections. Your unit may look different.
z Plug a video source into the applicable input connector:
z S-video input connector — A 4-pin mini DIN (Y/C) connector
z Composite video input connector — A female BNC connector
z Plug an audio source into the applicable audio input
connector:
z 5-pole captive screw connector — Wire the connector
as shown on the right.
z Two RCA connectors
Step 3 — TP Cables Between Units
ATTENTION: Damage to the unit may occur if TP cables
are mis-wired as crossover cables.
Terminate a TP cable as shown in the gure to the right.
Connect it between the output port of the transmitter and
the input port of the receiver.
Step 4 — Receiver Outputs
z Plug a video display into the applicable output connector:
z S-video output connector — A 4-pin mini DIN (Y/C)
connector
z Composite video output connector — A female
BNC connector
z Plug an audio device into the applicable audio output
connector:
z 5-pole captive screw connector — Wire the connector as shown below.

• The pin assignment is different if you have shifted the jumpers in
“Pre-installation — Jumpers” above (see the MTP AV Series User
Guide).

Extron MTP AV products can be adversely affected by electrostatic discharge (ESD)
if they are not grounded correctly.
To prevent malfunctions or product damage, an experienced installer can correctly
ground an Extron MTP AV product by inserting one end of the grounding wire to the
negative or ground pin on the power input connector (see the image on the right). Tie

the other end of the wire to an earth ground.
If you have any questions about how to ground a product in a specic application, contact an Extron technical support specialist.
Step 6 — Receiver Sharpness and Gain
z Sharpness — Adjusts the output image sharpness for long cable runs.
z Gain control — Adjusts the brightness of the output image to compensate for long cable runs.
z S-video receivers — There are separate controls for luminance (Y) and chrominance (C).
If the setting is too low, the image may appear in monochrome. Adjust the
chrominance (C gain) until color appears.
z Composite video receivers — There is only one gain control on composite video MTP
receivers.
NOTE: The control knobs shown above on the right are removable to limit access if desired.
