7. Connect the AC input cable to the power supply (figure 2).
8. Install the spring bracket into the tall
stand-off identified in step 4.
9. Press the power supply’s notched edge
into the spring bracket at the selected
installation location.
10. Using the tall stand-off as a pivot
point, swivel the power supply into
position until the captive screw
connector engages the short stand-off.
11. Hand tighten the captive screw connector.
12. Connect the DC output cable (the cable connected in step 5)
to either unused power connector on the main board (the
board on the floor of the switcher).
Use an already-installed power supply as an example to
orient the connector correctly.
13. Route cable out of the way and secure it with tie wraps.
14. Reinstall any cables and reinstall the front panel door.
Reconnect power to the matrix switcher.

Matrix 3200/6400 Power Supply
Redundant Matrix Switcher Power Supply
68-355-08 Rev. A
Printed in the USA
06 04
Installation
Each Matrix 3200 and Matrix 6400 basic module enclosure (BME)
can be equipped with hot redundant power supplies. The BME
automatically switches over from the primary supply to the hot
redundant supply in the case of a failure, ensuring high system
reliability.
When you upgrade a switcher to add redundant power supplies,
you will need to install two redundant power supply kits.
There are two different BME sizes:
• 5U BME — All Matrix 3200 BMEs and Matrix 6400 audio BME
• 7U BME — Matrix 6400 Wideband and video BMEs
Included parts
• Power supply • Spring bracket and mounting bolt
• 12" power supply cable • Tie wraps (3)
• 18" power supply cable
Installation
Install a redundant power supply as follows:
1. Disconnect power to the matrix switcher.
2. Loosen the front panel door and carefully lower it.
3. If desired, disconnect the communication cable and remove
the front panel door and set it aside.
4. Choose one of two possible redundant power supply
installation locations inside the BME. Figure 1 shows the
tall stand-offs that mark the installation locations on the
floor of a 5U BME. Figure 2 shows redundant power
supplies installed on the sidewall of a 7U BME.
5. Choose the power supply cable that reaches from the
installation location to the main power board. Connect the
cable’s wide end to the power supply (figure 3, rear page).
Installation of a power supply kit requires only one power
supply cable. Use the shorter cable if possible.
If the BME is equipped with an FPC 1000 front panel
controller, there is a communication cable connected
between the front panel door and the interior of the BME.
Take care not to damage the cable.
Figure 2 shows the complete front panel removed (not just
the front panel door) in order to show the power supply
locations only. For your installation, you only need to
remove the front panel door.
Use the shortest supplied cable possible.

The AC input cable for each primary power supply is
prefabricated with a second connector for the redundant
power supply. The secondary power supply connector is
wrapped in heat-shrink and tie wrapped out of the way.
6. Cut the tie wraps that secure the redundant power supply
connector on the AC input cable out of the way and remove
the heat shrink that protects the connector.
