AVTrac® Above Floor Installation Solution
Overview
The Extron® AVTrac Raceway is designed to be installed on a concrete base
and covered with carpet to finish. It is not designed to be installed under vinyl
composite tiles (VCT) or linoleum flooring. The instructions below present a
solution for installing AVTrac over most types of non-carpeted flooring.
NOTE: Consult a building/facility specialist to assess structural and other
concerns before installation.
Finishing
The following steps provide a solution for finishing the AVTrac installation with a
high density, heavy duty, rubber mat or commercial-grade carpet (¼ inch thick).
This is a non-standard finish and Extron does not provide any of the items used.
NOTE: Extron recommends a 36 inch wide mat or two 18 inch wide strips.
These mats can be obtained from companies such as McMaster-Carr
(www.mcmaster.com or telephone: 330-995-5500). For example, see
item 6974T82 in the McMaster-Carr product catalog.
By this point, the AVTrac, side and end ramps, and connectivity box must all
be securely fastened to the floor. For complete information about installing
the AVTrac system, consult the AVTrac User Guide, which is available online at
www.extron.com.
To finish the installation:
1. Choose between these two options:
a. Three sections — Using a straight edge as a guide, cut
the rubber or carpet lengthwise to get two strips for
covering the side ramps (strips 2 and 3 in the figure at
right). The strips should be cut to the same length as the
side ramps (see the AVTrac User Guide).
To cover the round end ramps, cut another rectangular
strip of rubber or carpet (strip 1 in the figure at right)
that is the same width as the strips for the side ramps.

b. One piece — Cut a single piece of rubber or carpet
(equivalent to strips 1, 2, and 3 combined in the figure at
right) by removing a section that is the same size as the
AVTrac aluminum base track.
2. If a sloped finish is required at the edges, cut three pieces of

floor transition strip to cover the edges of the side and end
mats (shown in dark gray in the figure at right).

3. If transition strips are being used, attach them to the outside
edge of the rubber mat or carpet strip with contact
cement, carpet tape, or the manufacturer's recommended
adhesive (see the figure below).

4. Finish by applying heavy duty carpet (power) tape to the ramp and the adjacent floor for securing the rubber or carpet
mat. This provides strong adhesion but can be removed easily.
NOTE: Alternatively, you may use liquid adhesive (glue or cement) to secure the rubber or carpet to the floor. This is
messy but can provide a more permanent and stable installation.
