User-friendly interface — An intuitive menu-driven LCD interface, direct access
buttons, and precise rotary controls enable detailed adjustment of image settings.
Wideband 8x8 matrix switching — Provides exceptional performance in the most
demanding, very high resolution computer-video and audio routing systems.
Eight fully-configurable inputs — Accept RGBHV, HDTV, component video, S-video,
and composite video signals.

Four output slots support optional expansion boards for signal processing or
additional wideband outputs
ADSP™ - Advanced Digital Sync Processing — An exclusive, all-digital process
that regenerates the sync signal waveform and restores sync level to 5.0 V p-p, TTL, specifications. This ensures a stable sync signal for improved signal compatibility with any LCD, DLP, plasma, or other digital display device.
DSVP™ - Digital Sync Validation Processing — Verifies active sources by polling
all inputs for valid sync signals. DSVP then transmits the horizontal and vertical sync information to the user through the IP Link or serial ports.
Triple-Action Switching™ for RGB Delay — Blanks the screen when switching to a
new source. The new sync signals precede the RGB signals, so there is no glitch shown during the transition. The time delay between the RGB and sync signals is adjustable up to five seconds through front panel, IP Link, or serial control.
Audio breakaway — Provides the capability to break an audio signal away from its
corresponding video signal, allowing the audio and video signals from one source to be switched to different destinations.
Audio input gain and attenuation — Allows users to set the level of gain or
attenuation for each audio input channel, eliminating noticeable volume differences when switching between sources.
Audio output volume adjustment and muting — Can be set dynamically for each
channel through the front panel or serial control, eliminating the need for an audio preamplifier in many system designs.
20 global presets — Frequently used I/O configurations may be saved and recalled
either from the front panel controller, IP Link, or serial control. This time-saving feature allows I/O configurations to be set up and stored in memory for future use.
QS-FPC™ - QuickSwitch Front Panel Controller with tri-color backlit buttons
— Provides a discrete button for each input and output, allowing for simple, intuitive operation. Buttons can be custom labeled for easy identification. The buttons illuminate red, green, or amber, depending on function, for ease of use in low-light environments.
Front panel security lockout — Prevents unauthorized use in non-secure environments.
In lockout mode, a special button combination is required to operate the switcher from the front panel controller.

IP Link® Ethernet monitoring and control — Engineered to meet the needs
of professional A/V environments, IP Link enables the ISM 824 to be proactively monitored and controlled over a LAN, WAN, or the Internet, using standard TCP/IP protocols. IP Link provides for remote selection of input and output ties, adjustment and control of audio input and output levels, and advanced system diagnostics.
RS-232 and RS-422 serial control port — Using RS-232 serial commands, the
ISM 824 can be controlled and configured via the Extron Windows®-based control program, or integrated into third-party control systems. Extron products use the SIS™ - Simple Instruction Set command protocol, a set of basic ASCII code commands that allow for quick and easy programming.
Front panel configuration port — A front panel serial port allows easy
accessibility for configuring the ISM 824 without having to access the rear panel.
Windows® control software — Provides a graphical, drag-and-drop interface
for I/O configuration and other customization functions via RS-232 and RS-422 remote control. This software also offers an emulation mode for configuration of an offsite matrix switcher; the I/O configuration may be saved for future downloading to the matrix switcher.

Internal international power supply — The 100-240VAC, 50/60 Hz, universal
power supply provides worldwide power compatibility.
deScriPt ion
The ISM 824 MultiS witcher is a unique modular matri x switcher that allows for simultaneous video and RGB scaling plus wideband switching in a single, compact enclosure. It combines the powerful signal routing capabilities of an eight input, eight output, wideband matrix switcher with the versatility of four customizable outputs. The Extron ISM 824 can be equipped with any of the available scaling or scan conversion output boards for initial project requirements, and then upgraded at any time in the future with additional boards as system needs evolve and expand. It is ideal for applications such as boardrooms, auditoriums, and classrooms that require high-performance signal routing with flexible, on-board signal processing.
As a matrix switcher, the ISM 824 is similar in performance and features to Extron's popular CrossPoint 450 Plus Series. The ISM 824 offers eight inputs that are fully configurable from RGBHV and HDTV to composite video, and two fully configurable wideband outputs. The ISM 824 provides exceptional performance in the most demanding, very high resolution computer-video and audio routing systems with features such as ADSP™ - Advanced Digital Sync Processing, DVSP™ - Digital Sync Validation Processing, audio output volume control, and IP Link® Ethernet control and monitoring.
Expandable and Upgradeable
In addition to the two standard wideband outputs, the ISM 824 features a flexible, plug-in backplane design with four output slots that support optional expansion boards for signal processing, such as scaling and scan conversion, as well as additional wideband outputs. With this unique, powerful expansion capability, the ISM 824 can be equipped initially with any of the output boards for a specific project, and then upgraded in the future with additional boards as system needs evolve and expand. Updates to the ISM 824 can easily be accomplished in the field without the need for factory servicing or changes to the internal hardware.

Output Expansion Board Options
Seven output expansion boards are available for the ISM 824, with the same advanced video processing technologies employed in Extron scalers, signal processors, and scan converters. The Universal RGB & Video Scaler Output Board features high performance RGB and video scaling, with upconversion and downconversion of high resolution RGB signals, as well as standard definition video signals. The Universal RGB & Video Scaler Board is available in three versions:
Analog - outputs RGBHV or component video in 59 selectable rates at up to UXGA
(1600x1200) resolution, as well as HDTV 1080p/60.
DVI - outputs 53 selectable rates up to 1600x1200 and HDTV 1080p/60.
HD-SDI - outputs one of five standard serial digital rates, including 720p 50/60,
1080i 50/60, and 1080p/60 24.
For applications that require video-only scaling with RGB pass-through, the Video Scaler Output Board scales standard definition composite video and S-video signals to a common, high resolution output rate. It offers 56 selectable output rates from 640x480 to 1400x1050, including HDTV 1080p/60.

For compatibility w ith low resolution video monitors as well as VCRs, DVD recorders, or videoconferencing, the Scan Converter Output Board delivers an optimized, scan-converted video output. Finally, Single and Dual Output Wideband Boards are available for additional matrix switcher outputs.
Integrated Matrix Switching and Signal Processing
The ISM 824 provides optimum integration flexibility while reducing system complexity and cost. With both matrix switching and signal processing capabilities in one 3U enclosure, system configuration and set-up can be accomplished from a single location, saving installation cost and time. At the same time, control system design and programming is simplified. Additionally, the ISM 824 is ideal for locations where equipment rack space is at a premium.
Versatile Control Possibilities from a Single Location
All features and functions of the ISM 824, including those of any installed output boards, are fully accessible from the front panel, as well as through the RS-232 and IP Link ports. The ISM 824 thus offers versatile control functionality for managing all source distribution and signal processing within an A/V system.
