MTPX Plus Series
MTP Twisted Pair Matrix Switchers with IP Link for RGBHV, Video, Audio, and RS-232
coMMo n FeATure s
• Six models in sizes from 8x16 to 32x32
•
Dynamic skew compensation — Adjustments are stored in memory for each input
and output, maintaining RGB color alignment at all times
•
Local RS-232 insertion ports — Eight or sixteen RS-232 input ports eliminate the
need for control system wiring to remote displays
•
Video level and peaking compensation on each input — Actively compensates for
input signal attenuation for various cable lengths, resulting in a brighter and sharper image
•
Switchable video pre-peaking on 50% of the outputs — Provides additional
compensation for optimal performance on the longest cable runs

The Extron MTPX Plus Series Twisted Pair Matrix Switchers represent the next generation of
twisted pair integration. Local video and audio inputs and outputs enable direct connection of
equipment that is located within the same rack as the MTPX Plus Matrix, greatly simplifying
system complexity by eliminating additional MTP transmitters and receivers. The MTPX Plus
Series also provides dynamic skew equalization on all inputs and outputs. This industr y
first innovation ensures that UTP cable skew is eliminated, no matter which combination of
input/output cable lengths are selected. Yet another innovative feature, local RS-232 insertion
ports, allows a control system located near the MTPX Plus to connect to and control remote
displays over the same UTP output cable that carries the A/V signal.
When paired with Extron MTP U Series Universal Receivers, MTPX Series Twisted Pair Matrix
Switchers allow composite video, S-video component, and VGA, along with audio or RS-232
control signals, to be sent over a single CAT 5 cable and output on the appropriate connector at
the display. Using one cable for all signal types simplifies system wiring and uses only a single
matrix switcher output and MTP U Series receiver per display.
Additional features include switchable pre-peaking on a number of the outputs to drive signals
long distances, audio input gain and attenuation to balance audio levels, output volume
control for the local outputs, and IP Link Ethernet connectivity. The powerful feature set in
the MTPX Plus Series Twisted Pair Matrix Switchers enables integrators to greatly reduce
installation time and costs associated with rack space, cabling, and installation, when compared
to traditional twisted pair matrix switching.
Local Video and Audio Inputs and Outputs
In addition to the UTP inputs and outputs, MTPX Plus Series matrix switchers include local
inputs and outputs for video and audio. Local video and audio inputs and outputs enable direct
connection of equipment that is located within the same rack as the MTPX Matrix Switcher.
This greatly simplifies system complexity by eliminating the need for additional MTP Series
transmitters and receivers. The result is significant cost savings on rack space, equipment,
cabling, and power requirements.

MTPX Plus Series
descr iPTion ( con tinu ed)
Dynamic Skew Compensation
The MTPX Plus Series features integrated skew delay equalization on all inputs and outputs.
This ground-breaking methodology enables the necessary skew compensation to be configured
during installation for each input/output combination, which is then applied automatically during
operation. Since the skew compensation is in the matrix switcher, no skew compensation is
required in the receivers.
Level and Peaking Compensation
MTPX Plus Series twisted pair matrix switchers feature individual level and peaking adjustments
on each input. As with skew compensation, level and peaking adjustments are made for each
input during installation and stored in memory. When an input is selected, the level and peaking
compensation is automatically recalled from memory and applied instantly, resulting in an
optimized image quality for every cable length.
Video Output Pre-Peaking
In the MTPX Plus Series, 50% of the UTP outputs feature switchable pre-peaking for optimizing
the video signal when needed. For example, the MTPX Plus 816 features eight UTP outputs
with pre-peaking capability, while on the MTPX Plus 3232, sixteen of the UTP outputs feature
the pre-peaking capability. The pre-peaking circuit provides additional compensation, which
optimizes the output video signal for longer cable runs.

Local RS-232 Insertion Ports
MTPX Plus Series twisted pair matrix switchers feature local RS-232 insertion ports, which allow
direct insertion of bidirectional serial control signals into any UTP output. These insertion ports
eliminate the need for additional control infrastructure for remote displays. Also, adding RS-232
signals to the UTP output extends serial control beyond the recommended 100-foot distance.
IP Link Ethernet connectivity
MTPX Plus Series matrix switchers are also equipped with Extron IP Link, a high performance
intelligent network integration solution specifically engineered to meet the needs of professional
A/V environments. IP Link is built around an integrated high performance Web server that
features g lobal compatibility with industry standa rd Ethernet communication protocols,
multi-user support, and GlobalViewer™, a free Web-based asset management and remote
control Web application.
