Carriers are deploying next-generation networks that
provide converged IP services over a common Ethernet
Transport network in an eort to maximize revenue. With
this convergence, network operators face complex opera­tional challenges. With as many as hundreds of thousands
of subscribers with varying requirements all supported
over a common platform, the complexity in managing the
network increases significantly.

The Command Line Interface (CLI) method of configura­tion, most commonly used today, involves time-consuming
manual tasks to provision services. This increases the
probability of human error which adversely impacts service
fulfillment and subsequently delays service revenue.
Providing service assurance is also a challenging task
since eective monitoring and troubleshooting of ser­vices requires having detailed, real-time visibility into the
network.

The interplay between bulk trac and time-sensitive appli­cations—such as streaming videos and voice calls—coexist­ing in the network also increases the complexity of trac
and transport engineering. Proper utilization of network
resources and capacity is crucial in order to maximize
network eciency.

Extreme Networks Ridgeline is network and service man­agement software with powerful features that enable car­riers to monetize their networks by shifting from reactive
circuit monitoring to proactive service management. The
key features and solutions provided by the Service Advisor
Feature Pack unify service fulfillment, service assurance,
and service engineering so carriers can eectively man­age next-generation residential, business, wholesale and
mobile Ethernet services.

service management software that simplifies provisioning, configura­tion, troubleshooting and status monitoring of IP-based networks.
The Service Advisor Feature Pack integrates key features and solu­tions that enables carriers to monetize their networks by shifting
from reactive circuit monitoring to proactive service management.

Operational Simplicty

Network operators need a way to view not only the devices in their network, but also the inter-device connections.
Ridgeline provides a flexible and intuitive user interface that makes anvigation and performing netowrk operations
easy.

Configuration management archives and reloads device con­figuration and performs configuration dierentials or baselin­ing for auditing purposes. Firmware management obtains
BootROM, software versions and availability information, and
performs multi-step upgrades—at once or scheduled—for
single or multiple devices.

The Ridgeline Alarm Manager provides fault detection and
alarm handling for the network devices monitored. The Alarm
Manager provides a set of predefined, enabled alarms that
immediately report conditions such as authentication or login
failures, device problems, reachability problems, or device
reboots.

The Alarm Manager also lets network operators define their
own alarms and conditions, such as repeated occurrences or
exceeding threshold values. Operators can enable and disable
individual alarms as well as specify the actions to be taken
when an alarm occurs.

Network operators need a way to view not only the devices in
their network, but also the inter-device connections. Ridgeline
provides a flexible and intuitive user interface that makes navi­gation and performing network operations easy. Its dockable
window interface lets the user view critical status as well as
configuration of dierent devices simultaneously. The topology
view in Ridgeline displays every element of the network and
the connections between them in Layer 2 and Layer 3 with an
alarm context.

Ridgeline provides a Java-based client/server model that allows
multi-user access. The client is automatically updated when
there is a new version available on the server. For deployments
with multiple Ridgeline servers, the user can designate one of
the servers to be the primary, which will collect status from
other servers and present them in a consolidated view.
