Operation
MEASURING TEMPERATURE
1. Press the red power switch to the ON position.
2. Select the “MEASURE” mode on the side panel slide switch
3. Select the thermocouple type of your measuring probe via the faceplate “TYPE” button. An LED will light above the T/C type selected in the display. Each time the “TYPE” button is pressed the indicator will advance one type.
4. Select
°
C or °F via the “C/F” button.
5. Insert the thermocouple probe into the sub-miniature female connector on the side panel. Be sure to check that it is inserted with the proper polarity and make sure the proper type is selected in the display.
6. Read the temperature on the LED display.
CALIBRATING THERMOCOUPLE DEVICES
1. Press the red power switch to the “ON” position.
2. Select the “CALIBRATE” mode on the side panel slide switch.
3. Select the thermocouple type of the device to be calibrated via the faceplate “TYPE” button. An LED will light above the T/C type selected in the display. Each time the “TYPE” button is pressed the indicator will advance one type.
4. Select
°
C or °F via the “C/F” button.
5. Insert the calibration cable into the sub-miniature female connector on the side panel. Be sure to check that it is inserted with the proper polarity and make sure the proper type is selected in the display.
Note: For greater accuracy, especially if there is a difference between the internal temperature of the calibrator and the device under calibration, we recommend that you use a thermocouple cable rather than the copper cable that is supplied with the calibrator. The thermocouple cable must match the thermocouple type of the device under calibration.
6. Connect the other end of the cable to the device to be calibrated.
7. Allow the proper warm up time for the Calibrator and the Device to be calibrated. At least 30 minutes is typically recommended.
8. Adjust to the desired output temperature using the up/down “COARSE” adjustment buttons on the faceplate and the “FINE” adjustment knob on the side panel. The output temperature will be displayed on the LED display. The “COARSE” adjustment has 16 increments and will display “high” or “low” when out of range.
DIRECT mV CALIBRATION and MEASUREMENT
For directly calibrating or measuring thermocouple devices in mV rather than in temperature, press the “TYPE” button until the F or C in the LED display disappears (only the “
O
” remains). The LED display will now indicate in mV rather than temperature units.

BATTERY
WARNING: DO NOT CONNECT THE AC ADAPTOR TO THE METER IF A 9V
ALKALINE BATTERY IS INSTALLED.
For continuous use the AC/DC Adaptor/Recharger.
For portable operation use the 8.4V NiCad battery. Replace batteries using the following procedure:
Close the case and insert a coin or flat screwdriver into the slot at the top of the meter. Snap the cover in the direction of the arrow and then open the cover of the meter. Remove the battery cover and connect the snap terminals to the battery terminals. Close the battery cover firmly.
Charge the battery for 24 to 48 hours before its first use. An overnight charge will enable continuous use for approximately 45 minutes. A full charge will provide one hour of
continuous use. Turning the meter OFF when not in use will prolong battery life. A 9V alkaline battery may be used in place of the rechargeable (8.4V) NiCad battery that
comes with the unit. A flashing “F” or “C” on the LED display indicates a low battery condition.
