Connect the IEEE 1394 CD-RW to computer
Windows 98SE/Me/2000 and Macintosh:
1. Connect the of IEEE 1394 cable to the IEEE 1394 interface connector of the CD-RW drive.

Plug the AC adapter into the DC IN Jack of CD-RW, and attach the AC
adapter to the AC power outlet.
Plug the port connector of IEEE 1394 cable into the IEEE 1394 port of
computer, the Portable CD-RW is ready for use immediately.

NOTE: The IEEE1394 interface only works under Win98 Second Edition or above version.
1. Boot-up your computer into Window s 98S E, m ake su re the ‘IEEE 1394 Host Controller’ device driver has installed and available in Win98SE. Please ri ght -click ‘My Computer’, click ‘Properties’ ‘Device Manager’ to open the ‘Device Manager’ windo w, refer to the below picture to check whether the ‘IEEE 1394 Host Controller’ is installed.
2. Microsoft has provided the ‘1394 Storage Supplement’ on ‘Windows Update web site’, this patch file can let IEEE1394 devices be removed safely, please go to ‘Windows Update’ to download this patch file, otherwise, the IEEE 1394 device won’t work stable.
3. To download the patch file, please click Start ‘Windows Update’ to link to the web site.
4. On the web site, click ‘Product Updates’ to open the download list, under the ‘Recommended Updates’ area, check ‘Windows 98 Second Edition 1394 Storage Supplement’, then click ‘Download’ button to download the patch and install it.
5. After the update is complete, restart computer.
6. Connect the AC adapter plugs into the DC IN Jack at the rear panel of the CD-RW, attach the AC adapter to the AC power outlet. Plug the port connector of the IEEE 1394 cable into the IEEE 1394 port of computer.

7. Windows 98SE will install its built-in device driver automatically. After the installation, this Portable CD-RW will appear in ‘My Computer’.
8. If this Portable CD-RW doesn’t appear in ‘My Computer’ or doesn’t work properly, please go into ‘Device Manager’ to check whether the devices are installed as below (the name under the CD-ROM drive list in the picture below may be different from your CD-RW drive).

1. Boot-up your computer into Windows Me, make sure the ‘IEEE 1394 Host Controller’ device driver has installed and available in Windows Me. Pleas e right-click ‘My Computer’, click ‘Properties’ ‘Device Manager’ to open the ‘Device Manager’ windo w, refer to the below picture to check whether the ‘IEEE 1394 Host Controller’ is installed.
2. Connect the AC adapter plugs into the DC IN Jack at the rear panel of the CD-RW, attach the AC adapter to the AC power outlet. Plug the port connector of the IEEE 1394 cable into the IEEE 1394 port of computer.
3. Windows Me will install its built-in device driver automatically. After the installation, this Portable CD-RW will appear in ‘My Computer’.

4. If this Portable CD-RW doesn’t appear in ‘My Computer’ or doesn’t work properly, please go into ‘Device Manager’ to check whether the devices are installed as below (the name under the CD-ROM drive list in the picture below may be different from your CD-RW drive).

1. Boot-up your computer into Windows 2000, make sure the ‘IEEE 1394 Host Controller’ device driver has installed and available in Windows
2000. Please right-click ‘My Computer’, click ‘Properties’ ‘Hardware’ ‘Device Manager’ to open the ‘Device Manager’ window, refer to the below picture to check whether the ‘IEEE 1394 Host Controller’ is installed.

2. Connect the AC adapter plugs into the DC IN Jack at the rear panel of the CD-RW, attach the AC adapter to the AC power outlet. Plug the port connector of the IEEE 1394 cable into the IEEE 1394 port of computer.

1. Before install the Portable CD-RW, please check the version of your FireWire driver in system, the version higher than 2.5 is recommended. Follow the below procedures to check the version.
A. Double-click ‘Macintosh HD’ on desktop. B. Double-click ‘System Folder’ in the opened window. C. Double-click ‘Extensions’ folder.

D. Click on ‘FireWire Support’ in the list. E. Click ‘File’ ‘Get Info’ ‘General Information’ to open the
information window.
F. Check the ‘Version’, if the number is lower than 2.5 (it could be
version 2.2 .2), we suggest you upgra de it to version 2.5 or hi gher. Please go to the homepage of Apple Computer Inc. –
http://www.apple.com
‘Download’, and download the ‘FireWire Update’ to upg rade your FireWire driver.
2. After check the FireWire driver and upgrade it, connect the AC adapter plugs into the DC IN Jack at the rear panel of th e CD-RW, attach the AC adapter to the AC power outlet. Plug the port connector of the IEEE 1394 cable into the IEEE 1394 port of computer.
3. Now you can use the Portable CD-RW as a CD-ROM drive, it can read disc but still can’t write data to disc.
4. You must install the CD Recording Software that came with the drive before you can perform the write and rewrite functions on the CD-RW drive

Connect the IEEE 1394 CD-RW to computer
Windows 98SE/Me/2000 and Macintosh:
1. Connect the 36-pins connector to the interface connector of the CD-RW.
2. Plug the AC adapter into the DC IN Jack of CD-RW, and attach the AC adapter to the AC power outlet.
3. Plug the port connector of IEEE 1394 cable into the IEEE 1394 port of computer, the Portable CD-RW is ready for use immediately.

Disconnect the IEEE 1394 CD-RW from computer
Windows 98SE:
Note: If you didn’t download and install the ‘1394 Storage
Supplement’ from ‘Windows Update’ web site, plug out the 1394 cable directly during Windows 98SE running may causes the Windows 98SE halted. If you experienced this situation, the best solution is install the above patch file, please follow the procedure in ‘Software Installation for Windows 98SE’ to complete the update.
1. Double-click on the icon Hardware’ dialog box appears.
2. Highlight the ‘1394/USB CD-ROM’ in the dialog box, click on Stop, then click on OK on next screen.
3. Wait for few seconds, the system prompts ‘The 1394/USB CD-ROM can now be safely removed f rom the syst em’, click on OK, and then plug out the IEEE 1394 cable from the IEEE 1394 port of computer.

1. Double-click on the icon Hardware’ dialog box appears.

2. Highlight the ‘IEEE 1394 / Firewire IDE device IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device’ in the dialog box, click on Stop, then click on OK on next screen.
3. Wait for few seconds, the system prompts ‘The IEEE 1394 / Firewire IDE device IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device can now be safely removed from the system’, click on OK, and then plug out the IEEE 1394 cable from the IEEE 1394 port of computer.

Macintosh:
1. If there is a disc in the Portable CD-RW, you must take out the disc first: click on the icon of disc, press CD-RW, take the disc out and then reload the disc tray, the icon will disappear.
2. Plug out the IEEE 1394 cable from the IEEE 1394 port of computer.

When you are using the Portable CD-RW to record your own CDs, you can use both CD-R disc and CD-RW discs. The CD-R/CD-RW discs must comply with the Orange Book Part II standard.
Media Compatibility
CD-R disc is readable by CD-ROM, CD-R and CD-RW drives. CD-RW disc is only readable by MultiRead CD-ROM and CD-RW drives, some CD-R drives may read CD-RW disc too. The readability of data discs on various systems will also be affected by the filenames/file system selected, and the operating system(s) under which the disc is written and read.

Disc Handling
For best result of recording and also the care of the CD Discs, read the following notes cautiously before using the Portable CD-RW.
Keep your CD-R/CD-RW discs clean by wiping the disc w ith a soft, d ry
cloth radially, i.e. from the center straight out to the edge.
Dry the disc thoroughly before inser ting it in the drive. Never write on either side of a disc with a ballpoint pen or pencil. To
label CD-R/CD-RW discs, use only markers or label specifically designed for CD-R/CD-RW media.
Avoid exposing discs to direct sunlight, and avoid storing them in areas
subject to hi gh temperature or high humidity.
Store discs in cases to avoid dust, dirt, scratches, and bending.
