Installation Instructions
CDW10U5 for 3-wire mains systems
CDW10U52L for 4-wire mains systems (with externally switched Maintained Live)
The CD BOX is an intelligent connection box providing
connections for up to ten luminaires, five MLS2000CDR
dedicated detectors and five switch inputs. The unit is
designed to simplify installation whilst providing an intelligent
managed lighting system. All the connections are pluggable.
(Hardwired options are also available.)
Parts list
1 CD BOX
1 4-pole Mains Power Connector (black c/w hood)
1 4-way Switch Input Connector c/w link
4 Open 20mm dia Grommets
1 Paper label for contractor to note box/circuit references
1 MLS Bus Plug Set (MLSPG)
A list of optional extras can be found on the back page.
NOTE
When installing patch leads between CD Boxes or
between CD Boxes and Detectors, care must be taken to
protect the plug connection from damage or
contamination by dirt or grease etc.
Electrical Connection
The connections to this equipment should be made by a
suitably qualified person and in accordance with the current
wiring regulations. For the following connections it will be
necessary to remove the screw-fixed access panel. (The
access panel must be replaced upon completion of any
installation work.)
10 industry standard 6-pin luminaire
output sockets
Rear view - cover removed
Output sockets for FailSafe Bus
and additional box interface leads
MLS Bus and FailSafe Bus Mains supply
Plug/socket connection to reduce installation time
5 detector and 5 switch input sockets
along the front of the unit
Fixing
The box should be sited on a suitable, smooth, flat surface
using the two end fixing flanges. Consideration should be
given to the box’s location as access will be required to install
the plugs.
The box must not be distorted when fixing. (If the box is to be
mounted on an uneven surface, it may be necessary to use
packing pieces or self- adhesive stand-off feet.)
When the CD Box is to be rod-fixed, the fixing should be
substantial enough to withstand the action of plugging and unplugging connectors.

Pluggable Wiring
Ensure that suitably rated cable is used to fit and fix the hood
to the base of the plug.
Hardwired
Insert the four-pin mains plug into the socket on the CD Box.
To connect the cable into the terminal block it will be
necessary to fit a cable restraint. This can be attached to the
20mm dia cable entry holes. Most forms of cable
restraint/containment are suitable when used with a 20mm
dia adaptor.
A red LED indicates when power is present.
MLS Bus Connection
Note: The MLS Bus is polarity-conscious.
The cable used should be two-core 1.5mm unscreened
2
twisted pair, mains-rated LSF insulated.
The MLS Bus connection can be made in one of two ways:
1) Using ready-assembled extension leads (as listed on the
back page).
2) Using the MLSPG plug set. Fit cable as the above
specification, then assemble on site to the required
lengths.
Emergency Testing
The CD Box is able to operate three types of emergency test:
1.Conventional - Where the test is conducted by switching
the maintained live supply externally (CDW10U52L only).
2.Test switching through the MLS bus - The power supply
(RB2000) is supplied fitted with an emergency test key-switch
which communicates through the bus by opening a normally
closed relay in the CD Box, thus breaking the maintained live
supply to simulate a mains failure.
Both these options require manual recording of the test
results.
3.With an automatic test system such as the Ex-Or
FailSafe - The CD Box has provision for linking an
addressable emergency test bus. Although designed for use
with the Ex-Or FailSafe system, the CD Box may be used with
any emergency testing bus.
