The!Ex-Cell!Solo!unit!is!designed!to!provide!support!to!a!vehicle!battery!where!
there!is!no!access!to!mains!power. !It!is !co mprised!of!up!to!thre e !s ep a ra te !Pow er!
Packs!that!constantly!monitor!the!vehicle!battery!and!recharge!it!after!the!
demonstration!of!the!vehicle’s!features.!!

Flexible!power!independent!of!mains!
The!unit!uses!the!Power!Packs!sequentially!to!keep!the!vehicle!
battery!fully!charged.!!The!Power!Packs!are!charged!by!a!
separate!charger,!which!can!be!plugged!into!the!mains!away!
from!the!vehicle.!!

Each!Power!Pack!has!an!equivalent!capacity!to!24Ah!(at!12V)!and!tests!have!
shown!that!this!is!enough!to!support!a!typical!luxury!car!in!a!showroom!for!up!to!!
a!week!without!recharging.!Where!support!is!required!for!a!car!with!fewer!
electrical!features!the!unit!can!function!with!1!or!2!Power!Packs.!!

Hot!swappable!Power!Packs!
If!any!of!the!Power!Packs!is!depleted!it!can!be!removed!and!the!

Initial!Set!Up!and!Connecting!the!Solo!
Before!connection!
Insert!the!first!battery!p a c k!in to !a n y !o f!th e !th re e !Pow er!Pack!slots.!The!Solo!will!
start-up!and!the!initial!screen!(Figure!1)!will!be!displayed.!A!further!two!packs!can!
be!inserted!if!required.!!
Before!first!use,!check!that!the!Power!Packs!are!fully!charged!(the!battery!packs!
will!typically!arrive!partially!discharged !as!this!is!the!optimum!charge!for!best!
shelf!life).!Each!pack!can!be!tested,!by!inserting!it!into!the!unit.!The!initial!screen!
will!give!the!name!of!the!pack!and!indicate!the!current!level!of!charge.!If!a!Power!
Pack!is!not!fully!charged!it!sh o u ld !b e !ch arge d!u sing !the!su pp lied !cha rger.!!!
It!is!strongly!recommended!that!the!ve h icle !b a tte ry !is!f u lly!c h a rge d !when!the!Solo!

Connecting!the!Solo!
1. Connect!the!cable!directly!to!the!vehicle!battery!with!the!crocodile!clips!
ensuring!that!the!red!crocodile!clip!is!connected!to!the!positive!(+)!terminal!
and!the!black!clip!to!the!(-)!terminal.!

The!Solo!is!designed!to!monitor!the!vehicle!battery!and!switch!itself!on!and!off!as!
required!to!keep!the!battery!charged .!

When!the!Solo!is!charging,!the!current!(A)!will!indicate!anything!up!to!7A.!This!is!
normal!and!the!current!will!vary!dependent!upon!the!battery!voltage!(V).!
As!the!battery!charges!the!voltage!will!increase,!when!the!voltage!reaches!
between!13.5V!and!13.6V!at!the!vehicle!battery,!the!current!will!fall.!
Solo!is!fitted!with!voltage!drop!compensation!for!the!output!cable,!the!output!
voltage!at!the!Solo!connector!may!be!higher!than!that!indicated!on!the!display!
whilst!charging!at!full!current.!
When!the!charge!current!falls!below!2A!the!Solo!will!switch!off!the!charge!output!
and!go!into!the!low!power!!‘idle’!mode.!

When!the!battery!voltage!falls!below!12V!(for!example!after!a!demonstration)!the!
charger!is!switched!back!on!replacing!the!used!energy!in!the!vehicle!battery.!
Cycling!the!charger!on!and!off!maximises!the!efficiency!of!the!Solo!and!therefore!
maximises!Power!Pack!life.!

ü The!unit!replaces!charge!at!a!constant!rate!of!13.6V!maintaining!the!
battery!with!virtually!zero!gassing!(production!of!oxygen!and!hydrogen)!
which!can!create!a!significant!fire!and!explosive!risk!when!!compared!

ü The!use!screen!provides!a!clear!visual!indication!if!the!unit!is!connected!

Mains!charging!-!The!Solo!should!only!be!charged!using!the!charger!provided.!The!

Liquid!-!The!Solo!should!not!be!exposed!to!liquid!of!any!kind.!In!addition,!no!
