WARRANTY
1. Manufacturer warrants to the original purchaser that the SafePresence Motion Detector will be free from
defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase.
2. During this period, the manufacturer will perform repairs or effect replacement at manufacturer’s option at
no charge.
3. Manufacturer’s limited warranty covers only those defects that arise as a result of normal use of the hardware and
does not apply because of:
Damage or faults caused by use contrary to instructions, warnings or cautions.
The serial number has been altered, defaced or removed.
Defects or damage caused by or resulting from unauthorized service or parts.
Damage caused by misuse, abuse, accident, neglect or mishandling.
Defects or damage that occurs due to fi re, earthquake, fl ood or other water immersion, faulty or leaking
batteries, batteries not required by SafePresence, lightning, other natural disasters, environmental pollution
and irregular voltage sources.
THE FOREGOING WARRANTIES ARE EXCLUSIVE AND IN SUBSTITUTION FOR, AND BUYER HEREBY WAIVES, RELEASES AND
RENOUNCES, ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, OBLIGATIONS AND LIABILITIES OF SAFEPRESENCE AND ALL OTHER RIGHTS,

INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the SafePresence Motion Detector. The SafePresence Motion Detector operates at 433 Mhz.
It sounds a local alarm on the sensor or transmits an alert to a pager carried by caregivers. The unit is often installed to
monitor a bed or doorway. Caregivers choose the placement and application that is best for the person in their care.
Screws (included) or Velcro® (sold separately) can be used to mount the monitor which is powered by a 9 Volt battery.
The receiver is also battery powered and has LOW or HIGH volume settings.
The SafePresence Motion Detector is only an aid for caregivers and is not designed to replace proper nursing care
including, but not limited to 1) visual monitoring 2) direct patient supervision 3) proper training for all caregivers using
the system 4) testing the system daily and before each use, and 5) immediate caregiver response to the alerts. The
Caregiver Communicator and accessories may not be suitable for all individuals.
Keep these instructions in a safe place. Keep a record of all training sessions and the following information for future
reference. This information will be needed for repairs or returns.

MAINTENANCE
Test your SafePresence Motion Detector and all components daily and before each use. Inspect the unit for
damage regularly. Replace any damaged or worn components immediately. Contact your distributor if the
Motion Detector needs repair. Do not disassemble or alter the product.
CLEANING
1. Clean the SafePresence Motion Detector with a damp (not wet) rag using non-caustic cleaning agents.
2. Never immerse the system or pager in any liquids.
STORAGE
1. Store the SafePresence Motion Detector in a safe place and in an area free from high humidity and temperature.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Contact your distributor if the Motion Detector needs repair. Do not disassemble or alter the product.

When using the SafePresence Motion Sensor, instructions, particularly warnings and cautions should always
be followed. Failure to read and follow these instructions, warnings and cautions may result in damage to the
product, fi re, electric shock, or personal injury or death.
Test the Motion Detector daily and before each use.

GENERAL
1. Train each caregiver that uses the Motion Detector system. Keep a record of all training.
2. Keep the Motion Detector system dry and away from water or other liquids at all times. The Motion Detector system
is not water resistant and operation may be affected by liquids and high humidity.
3. Contact your distributor if the SafePresence Motion Detector needs repair. Do not disassemble or alter the product.
4. Mount sensor in locations where there is minimal risk of tampering.
BATTERY SAFETY
1. Only use 9V alkaline batteries in sensor and pager.
2. Check low battery alerts on sensor and pager continuously. When LED lights start fl ashing, discontinue use and
replace batteries immediately.
3. Remove batteries when not using the device for an extended period of time.
4. Keep batteries dry.
5. Children should not handle batteries unless supervised by an adult.
6. If batteries leak, discontinue use. Remove batteries. Clean and wipe off battery case and contact your distributor.
7. Test the sensor and pager when batteries are replaced.
DEVICE DISPOSAL
1. Dispose of batteries properly and in accordance with applicable local laws. Do not burn batteries. They may explode.
2. Recycle electrical products. Check with your local authority for recycling information. Do not dispose electrical
products with household waste.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
SERVICE
1. Only qualifi ed personnel can perform repairs on the SafePresence Motion Detector. Attempting to repair the unit
yourself or by someone other than an authorized representative may damage the unit and will void the
manufacturer’s warranty. Discontinue use and contact your distributor if any of the following situations occur:
Liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen onto the sensor or pager
The sensor or pager has been exposed to rain or water
The sensor or pager are very hot to the touch
The Motion Sensor does not operate normally by following the instructions in this instruction manual
The SafePresence Motion Detection or accessories exhibit a change in performance
INTERFERENCE / RANGE
The Motion Sensor system and accessories operate on 433 Mhz (approximately). The optimum range between the
sensor and pager 50 feet (15m) but range is affected by the operating environment in healthcare facilities as well as
the home setting. Test the sensor and pager daily and before each use.
TEST THE SENSOR AND PAGER DAILY AND BEFORE EACH USE.
TEST THE SENSOR AND PAGER EACH TIME BATTERIES ARE REPLACED. Proper use of this system
requires ongoing testing.
TEST THE SENSOR AND CHIME DAILY AND WHENEVER THERE IS A CHANGE IN THE OPERATING
ENVIRONMENT (ie. the addition of phones, washers, dryers, microwaves, computers, refrigerators,
computers, and other electrical equipment).
1. Place the SafePresence Motion Detector away from electrical appliances such as:

Computers Phone Systems
Ham Radios
2. Keep components free from smoke, dust, direct sunlight, heat sources such as heaters and cooking apparatus,
high temperatures, damp basements, and vibration.
3. Communications between the sensor and pager may be impaired by metal or steel objects.
4. Inspect sensor and pager regularly for signs of damage. Contact your distributor for repair.

USING THE SAFEPRESENCE MOTION DETECTOR
INSTALLING BATTERIES
The sensor and pager each require one 9V battery (not included).
Remove sensor from bracket by gently separating the bracket arms. When replacing, a fi rm click indicates the
sensor is fi rmly in place.
Battery Installation for Either Unit:
1. Locate the battery compartment.
2. Press the arrow on the battery compartment cover.
3. Slide cover open.
4. Insert the battery, snapping it securely into the contacts.
5. Replace the battery cover.
Battery Removal from Either Unit:
1. Locate battery compartment.
2. Press down the arrow on battery compartment cover.
3. Slide cover open.
4. Remove the battery.
5. Dispose battery properly.
AC POWER
Only use SafePresence adapters (sold separately) with the Motion Detector. If other adapters are used, the
system may be damaged. Discontinue use.
An adapter jack is on the SafePresence Pager. The adapter is sold separately. Contact your distributor for more
information.

TESTING
Sensor Set Up
The alarm/chime may not be activated by waving a hand in front of the unit. Test by simulating use.
To Test:
1. Turn sensor on by selecting “CHIME” or
“REMOTE” on the sensor.
2. Turn chime on.
3. Simulate intended use of the system
(ie. walk through the door, get up from bed).
4. Alarm/chime will sound.
Test Range:
1. Turn sensor on.
2. Turn chime on.
3. Wait 10 – 60 seconds.
4. Walk or move in and around sensor area.
5. The chime/alarm will not sound if you walk
beyond detection range.
6. Adjust location or angle of sensor.
SETTING THE CODE
Using multiple sensor and/or pagers can create interference in the detection system and affect system
operation. Alarms may not be heard. Test a multiple sensor and/or pager set up before use.
The SafePresence sensors and pagers each
have a code switch that is located inside the
battery compartment. The pins of code switch
are pre-set at the same direction at the factory
and matches one sensor to one pager.
By changing the code, caregivers are able to
use multiple sensor and/or multiple pagers. For
example, one pager may be used to receive
alarms from one or more sensors.
To use more than one sensor or pager, contact
your distributor.
PREPARATION
PACKAGE CONTENTS
When you receive your SafePresence Motion Detector blister pack inspect the contents.
Your blister pack should include:
1. Sensor.
2. Pager.
3. Screws for mounting.
4. Set of Instructions.
The sensor and pager each require a 9 volt alkaline battery for operation. Batteries are not included.
Check the contents immediately. If any items are missing from the box, please contact your distributor.
Read these instructions and put them in a safe place for future use, along with a record of all training.

SYSTEM SETUP
When Choosing a Mounting Location:
1. The sensor can be adjusted in the bracket as needed.
2. If used to monitor a bed, motion can only be detected on the side of the bed the sensor is mounted on.
3. Sensor beam is perpendicular to the fl oor when sensor is mounted vertically.
4. Sensor beam is parallel to the fl oor when mounted horizontally.
5. Detection beam extends up to 16 feet from sensor. Test to determine fi eld before use.
6. Keep the monitored area secure by using privacy curtains or other items to reduce false alarms.
The SP sensor requires (1) one 9 Volt alkaline battery (not included). Install battery before use.
