Before you are going to use your new Excel G-Evolution, you and your attendant must fully read and understand this user manual. Also, if you have this user manual, you agree to the conditions mentiond in this user manual.

At the moment we introduce you a quality product of Van Os Medical. We want to thank you for the condence in

our Excel ® products. The Excel G-Evolution is a real quality product. The policy of Van Os Medical is focussed on to continuously improving the quality and reliability of our products. Therefore, we resere ourself the right to, without further notice, make any changed to this user manual

It is important you read this user manual very carefully, before you are going to use your wheelchair. This user manual contains important information about the safe use and maintenance of your wheelchair. We recommend you to keep this user manual, because it is also your proof of warranty.

The safety instructions in this user manual are general guidlines which must be seen as overall guidlines. It is possible you develop your own ways for many common movements. However, we advise you to consult a

professional for assistance in developing safe use and eective techniques, regarding to your daily activities and

your physical capabilities.

Your new wheelchair requires frequent maintenance, much of which you can do yourself. We advise you to take

your wheelchair at least once a year to a professional for a check. You will nd a maintenance schedule later in this

user manual.

1. Identication

Your wheelchair is equipped with a unique serial number. You will nd this number on the frame of your wheelchair. Below, you see an example of the framelabel, where you can nd the identication number. Furthermore, you will nd the explanation of the various data stored on the framelabel listed below.

1. Production date

The date which on your wheelchair was manufractured.

2. Serial number

Every wheelchair has its own unique serial number. You need this number when you have any technical questions or you want to order any parts of the wheelchair.

3. Maximum weight

The maximun weight allowed on the wheelchair.

4. Type number

This number indicates which model of wheelchair you have. You need this number when you have any technical questions or you want to order any parts of the wheelchair.

5. Model name

The model name of your wheelchair starts with the brand name Excel. The brand name Excel, followed by the de additional model description forms the model name of the wheelchair. You need the model name when you have any technical questions or you want to order any parts of the wheelchair, in this case the Excel G-Evolution.

Your wheelchair is equipped with a number of components and parts. You should know these before continue

reading this user manual. The design and specications may change without further notice.

2.2 General explanation of your wheelchair

Your new Excel G-Evolution wheelchair is a lightweight wheelchair. The wheelchair is equipped with ergonomic handles, so your attendant can push the wheelchair easily. Besides, the push handles are height adjustable. Also, the armrests of the wheelchair can be folded away backwards. The legrests of the Excel G-Evolution can be swung away to the side and are also removable. To fold the wheelchair, the footplates are foldable upwards. In addition, the footplates are adjustable in height. This can only be done with the an allen key. Finally, the wheelchair is equipped with 7“ front wheels and 24” rear wheels. The 24“ rear wheels are removable using the quick-release

system. This means you can simply take o the rear wheels in order to transport the wheelchair easier.

3. Safety regulations

Van Os Medical B.V. specically disclaims responsibility for any body injuries or property damage, which may occur

during any use when the recommendations and warnings discribed in this user manual are not followed. The Excel G-Evolution is, if the wheelchair is used correctly, a very safe and stable product. However, it is possible if you use wheelchair not correctly, dangerous situations may occur.

3.1 General safety regulations

Protect your wheelchair by checking it regularly. When a part of your Excel G-Evolution doesn’t function correctly, a dangerous situation could occur. Therefore, you must keep your wheelchair in perfect condition, to ensure safety in use. Periodical inspection, a correct adjustment and in time replacement of broken or worn parts will result in use

for years without any problems. A qualied Excel dealer, who will only use Excel replacement parts, will take care of

your wheelchair and make sure you can use your wheelchair for years without problems.

3.2. Warnings for safe use

To prevent any damage to your property, the wheelchair or the user of the wheelchair, you must observe the following warnings. Van Os Medical B.V. is not responsible for any damage, provided that the warnings be respected. After reading the warnings, you agree with the regulations, mentioned in this user manual.

• When you get your wheelchair, always check if all components of the wheelchair are present and if there are any damages. If components are missing or there are any damages, you must immediatly contact your supplier;

• Do not use your wheelchair on streets or roads, only on the pavements;

• Do not use your wheelchair in sand, rough area, wet and glade surfaces or surfaces with little grip;

• Do not lean concerning the back of the wheelchair. This can result in rolling over the wheelchair;

• Do not try to ascend ramps without installed anti tippers, never ascend a hill without anti tippers;

• Never go on or o an increase without help of your attendant;

• Before leaning or reaching forward, sit back into the wheelchair to prevent falling out of the wheelchair;

• Before getting on or o the wheelchair, sit back into the wheelhair and face the castors forward;

• Do not stand on the footrest, because this will cause the wheelchair to tip and injure the user;

• Place the wheelchair on a stable, at surface before you get on or o the wheelchair;

• For suitable protection of potential obstruction the lowest point of the footrests serves minimum 7 cm free of

the ground;

• A wheelie (the tilting angle of the wheelchair until it is in balance) is extremely dangerous to the user and will cause serious damage to the wheelchair;

• Attach the brakes when you use the wheelchair in a lift or on a wheelchair lift and when you want to get o;

• The transport of your wheelchair is in all vehicles, including vehicles which are adapted developed especially

and/or for the transport of your wheelchair, is at your own risk. We accept absolutely no liability for this;

• We recommend you, if you want nevertheless to transport your wheelchair, to contact a recognised manufacturer of taxi xations to take with the carrier, your supplier and/or systems to choose an appropriate

system for your wheelchair and situation;

• During the transport of the wheelchair, the wheelchair may not be used as a seat in a vehicle;

• Never use your wheelchair when something is broken;

• Never stand on your wheelchair;

• Never connect anything to the wheels, this may cause damage to the chair and also eect the balance of the

chair and may injure the user;

• Do not push the wheelchair If you attach the brakes of the wheelchair. This may cause damage at the wheelchair and may occur a dangerous situation;

• The maximum user weight capacity has been indicated on your framelabel. Do not exceed this maximum user weight;

• The wheelchair is suitable for one person at the time. Also, do not take anybody on your lap while using the wheelchair;

• A sudden change of direction may cause the wheelchair to fall over. You should avoid this by keeping the same direction when you use the wheelchair;

• Never independently increase a slope that is steeper than 10°. You should go on an increase or slope that is steeper than 10° with your attendant;

• Unauthorized modication and or use of no Van Os Medical parts will void the warranty of this chair and may

lead to injury to the user and damage to the chair.

Warning

The implementation of changes to the Excel G-Basic wheelchair, which are structural changes, is at all times at the expense of the guarantee.

4. User instructions

It is very important you teach yourself the right and safe user instructions. Therefore, you need to know all the components of the wheelchair, described in this user manual. Always check an expert for support by developing the right and safe methods regarding to your physical possibilities to use your wheelchair.

4.1 Balance

Daily operations such as getting on and o the wheelchair, reaching and bending in wheelchair will cause change

the weight distribution and the centre of gravity of you and your wheelchair. You will need to perform these movements and techniques as shown below.

4.1.1 Getting in and out of the wheelchair

Getting in and out of the wheelchair is a common operation. The diculties of entering and exiting depend on your

physical capabilities. In this user manual, we describe the actions that must be followed when you want to get in or out the wheelchair without help. When you can’t do it no longer independently, we recommend that you comply

with an occupational therapist to discuss your options and determine how you can get the best on and o the

wheelchair.

Get in the wheelchair

Before you get in your wheelchair, you must make sure the wheelchair is on a at surface. Also, the wheelchair must be put on the brakes and the legrests need to ip sidewards. Make sure you are as close as possible to the

wheelchair en put the castors in forward direction. Now you can, leaning on the armrests, make the transfer to the wheelchair.

Get out of the wheelchair

When you want to get out of the wheelchair, you must follow the same instructions for getting in to the wheelchair. Make sure you are as close as possible to the wheelchair en put the castors in forward direction. Also, the

wheelchair must be put on the brakes and the legrests need to ip sidewards. Now you can, leaning on the armrests, make the transfer out o the wheelchair.

4.2 Bending and/or reaching

It may occur you are in your wheelchair and you need te get someting. This can be next to you, but also in front of or behind you. To avoid tilting your wheelchair or your wheelchair falls backwards, below we describe how you can bend and / or reach out the best in your wheelchair.

4.2.1 Bending and/or reaching forwards

If you want to get something that is in front of your wheelchair, please follow the steps below.

• Make sure that you are as close as possible to the object;

• Make sure the front wheels are turned forward. If not, go forwards and then backwards to turn the wheels

fully to the front;

• Make sure the wheelchair is put on the brakes on both sides;

• You can now move towards the target with caution to keep the wheelchair from falling.

4.2.2 Bending and/or reaching to the side

If you want to get something that is next to you or your wheelchair, please follow the steps below.

• Make sure you are as close to the object with your wheelchair. Use the rear wheels of the wheelchair as a target;

• Make sure the front wheels are turned forward. If not, go forwards and then backwards to turn the wheels fully to the front;

• Make sure the wheelchair is put on the brakes on both sides;

• You can now move to the side without the risk of losing the balance. Make sure you move along the

wheelchair as close as possible while lifting.

4.2.3 Bending and/or reaching backwards

If you want to get something that is behind you or your wheelchair, please follow the steps below.

• Make sure you are as close to the object with your wheelchair. Make use of your rear wheels of the wheelchair. For example, place it against a closet;

• Do not put the wheelchair on the brakes. If you lose your balance you better drive backwards then ip

backwards;

• You can now bend backwards without having to risk losing the balance. But do not bend too far backwards. Then the wheelchair will tilt as well.

4.3 Going on and of increases

It may happen that you have to go on or o an increase with your wheelchair. In addition, we describe in this user manual rst how to do this independently and then how you can do this with an attendant.

4.3.1 Going on an increase

If you want to go on an increase you have to do it in a forward motion. Make sure your weight is, as far as it is possible, brought forward by bending over. By now making a so-called “wheely” , the casters are lifted at the front. This way you can get over an increase in your wheelchair.

Warning

You should only go on an increase after you discussed with a specialist, such as an occupational therapist, how to do this best.

You can also go on an increase with your supervisor. This can be done in two ways.

1. Your attendant should place the wheelchair in forward motion for going on the increase. By pressing the on

the handles, the casters at the front wheel will go o the ground. Simultaneously, your attendant should put his foot on the so-called stepper. There will now create a leverage eect and so the wheelchair can be driven

on the increase.

2. Your attendant should put the wheelchair in the backward movement for going on the increase. By sitting as far as possible in the wheelchair and slightly tilt the wheelchair backwards, your attendant can pull the chair on the increase. Your attendant should not lower the wheelchair until the casters are on the increase.
