Water is a natural solvent, and as it passes through soil and

limestone it picks up minerals.These minerals make water “hard”,

that use water. Common culprits for causing hard water are

calcium and magnesium.

The Ion Exchange Process

Water softeners can remove dissolved calcium and magnesium through a process known as “ion exchange”. High concentration sodium chloride solution is drawn from the brine tank and passed through the resin bed.The positively charged sodium ions in the solution displace the calcium and magnesium ions, releasing them back into the solution.These hardness ions are then flushed down the drain.
