Caution
Etymotic Research Inc.
• Do not expose the headset to extreme temperatures.
• Avoid dropping or strongimpact.
• Always leave an eartip on the headset for shock protection.
• Do not pull on the cord to remove it from the jack or the ear.
• Clean or replace the eartip prior to use by others.
• Replace eartips regularly.
• Earwax buildup can reducethe headset output. Whenthefilter
becomesclogged it shouldbe replaced. See “Changing the filter.”
Eartip Care
Over time eartips may lose their elasticity. Fo
and retention,replace 3-flange eartips every 3-6 months.
Replace foam and glider eartips regularly.
To clean 3-flange eartips:
1. Remove eartip from the earphone.
2. Clean with waterand mild soap.
3. Dry the eartip before placing it back on the earphone.

Noise Isolation
The earphone provides the highest noise isolation of any mobile
phone headset. Noise reduction is 37 dB,averaged over the
octave frequencies from 125 to 8000 Hz,allowing only the audio
from the caller to enter the ear. As an earplug, it has a calculated
noise reduction rating (NRR) of 24 dB. The microphone provides
4 to 11 dB greater noise rejection than other microphones at the
same location,andupto25dBmorenoiserejectionthanbooms
that are not close to the mouth.
In rare instances an eartip may come off in the ear canal when
removing the earphone. If this should occur and the eartip cannot
be easily removed,it is recommended that you promptly contact
an audiologist or other medical professional.Aprofessionalcan
use blunt tweezers to removethe eartip.
Consult an audiologist or physician if you have excessiveear wax,
difficulty inserting the eartips, or discomfort after prolonged use.
Etymotic Research has spent over twenty-five years refining
in-ear technology for precision monitoring and critical listening.
The first in-ear earphones were inventedbyEtymoticin1984for
clinical audiometry and auditory research, and later convertedto
the first high-fidelity,noise-isolating earphones, the ER-4s
in 1991.

Warranty
Best performance is achieved by
• obtaining a good seal in the ear canal
• positioning the microphone close to the mouth
Earphone
Select an eartip that allows the earphone to seal the ear canal so
that it stays in position and the boom does not rotate downward
during use. Positionthe earphone securelyintheear. Moisten
the eartip if necessary to ease insertion.
Microphone
The microphone is highly directional. It will pick up your voice
within a narrow ra
from outside that range. To stay in this range, bend the boom so
that the microphone is within 1/2 inch of your mouth. Excessive
jaw movement can cause the eartip to work out of the ear if it is
not well sealed. Occasionally check the
fit of the eartip to ensure that the boom
remains in place and the microphone
does not move away from yourmouth;
otherwise the microphone will reject
your voice and you will be difficult to hear.
nge and reject background noise that comes
Triple-flange Eartip Insertion
• For bestresults,moisten the eartip
before insertion.
• Insert the eartip by pulling the ear outward
and upward. The eartip should seal deeply
and comfortably in the ear canal.
• Adjust the gooseneck so that the microphone
is within 1/2" of your mouth.
• Once properlyinserted the microphone (boom) should notmove.
Foam Eartip or GliderInsertion
• Use a foam or glider eartip if a good seal cannot be obtained
arti
with one of the 3-flange e
ps.
• Compress the foam at the end of the earphone by rolling
it between your thumb and forefinger before inserting it.
Hold the earphone in place for about 5 seconds while the
foam expands to create a tight seal.
• Toinsertaglidereartip, simply push in to obtain a seal.
Removal
Remove theeartipslowlywith a twisting motion to break the seal.

Foam and Glider Eartips
Replace as needed.
The ETY-COM headset has a special filter that smoothes the
frequency response and prevents earwax from entering the
earphone. The filter, identified by green acoustic mesh in a small
plastic barrel, islocatedat the end of the headset and is visible
when the eartip is removed. If the filter becomes clogged it
should be replaced. A dirtyfilterwillreduceor block the headset
