Jumbo Frames
The switch provides efficient large sequential data transfer s by supporting jumbo frames up
to 9000 bytes. Compared to stan dard Ether net fra mes that ru n up to 1500 by tes, using j umbo
frames significantly reduces the per-packet over head required to process pr otocol
encapsulation fields, reduce processing time , and increase transfer performanc e.
By default, jumbo frames are enabled on the switch. To u se jumbo frames, both the source
and destination end nodes (such as a computer or ser ver) must support jumbo frames. In
addition, when the connecti on o per ates at full-dupl ex, all swit che s in the network b etween t he
two end nodes must be able to accept th e extended frame size. For half-duplex c onnections,
all devices in the collision domain must support jumbo frames.
To disable jumbo fra mes, uncheck Enable Jumbo Frames.
Power Saving Mode
By default, the switch is configured for full power saving mode. This mode automatically
adjusts the power provided to ports. The foll owing power saving mode selections are
available:
Choices are:
ŸFull = activate maximum power saving mode. This is the default setting.
ŸLink-up = save power when the switch port link is up (operational).
ŸLink-down = save power when the switch port link is dow n (non-operational).
ŸDisable = deactivate power saving mode.

balancing and redundancy of links in a switched inter-network.
In reality, the link does not have an inherent total bandwidth equal to the sum of its
component physical links. Traffic in a trunk is distributed across an individual link within the
trunk in a deterministic method using a hash algorithm. The hash algorithm applies load
balancing to the ports in the trunk automatically. A port failure within the trunk group redirects
network traffi c to the r emaining ports. Load b ala ncing i s maint ain ed whe never a link in a tru nk

Port connection is not
working.
Half- or full-duplex setting on
the switch and the connected
device ar e not the same.
One or more devices ar e n ot
connected properly or cabling
does not meet Ethernet
guidelines.
Some coll isions are nor ma l
when the connection is
operati ng in half-dupl ex
mode.
Check the power cord connections for the switch at the switch and the
connected device.
Be sure a ll cables used are c orrect and comply with Etherne t
specifications.
Check t he crimp on the connectors and be sure the plug is inse rte d
properly and locked int o th e port at both the switc h and the connecting
device.
Be sure a ll cables used are c orrect and comply with Etherne t
specifications.
Check for a defective adapter card, cable, or port by testing them in an
alternat e environmen t where all products are functioning.
Configure the switch and the attached de vice to auto-neg otiate.
Verify that the cabling is correct.
Be sure all connectors are securely positioned in t he require d p orts.
Equipment may have been disconnected accidentally.
Recheck the settings of the device attached to the switch port.
Be sure the switch and the attached device are usin g the same duplex
setting.
Be sure the switch and the attached device are set to auto-negotiate.
Check and, if necessary, c hange the setting s on t he Configurat ion >
Storm Control page (s ee page 51).
Link/ACT LED is flashing
continuously on all
connecte d ports and the
network is disa bl ed.
A network lo op (redu nda nt
path) has been created.

Additi onal Troubleshooting Suggestions
If the suggestions in Table 5-1 do not resolve your problem, refer to the troubleshooting
suggestions in this secti on.
Network Adapter Cards
Be sure the network adapter cards installed in the PC used to config ure the switch are in
working condition and the latest software dri ver has been in stalled.
Configuration
If problems occur after altering the switch’s network configuration, restore the original
connections and determine the pro blem by i mplementing the new c hang es one step at a time.
Be sure cable distances, repeater limits, and other phy sical aspects of the installation do not
exceed the Ethernet limitations.
Switch Integrity
If required, verify the integrity of the switch by resetting it. To reset the switch, use the reset
button on the front panel (see “Reset Button” on page 12) or use the Maintenance > WarmRestart page on the switch’s Web managem ent interfa ce (see “Warm Restart Page” on page
60). If the problem continues, contact EtherWAN Sy ste ms technical support.
Auto-Negotiation
The 10/100 Mbps ports negoti ate the correct duplex mode and speed if the switch is
configured for auto-neg otia tion (t his is the swit ch’s def aul t setting) and t he device at the other
end of the link supports auto-negotiation. If the device does not support auto-negotiation, the
switch determines only the spe ed correctly and the duplex mode default s to half-duplex.
