When choosing the location for your new tting, give consideration to the ease and frequency of lamp changes. The tting should not be installed in a position where it will be dicult to reach.
When choosing the location for your new tting, ensure that the xings will be anchored in a solid surface e.g. concrete, brick or a joist—do not x directly onto panelling, cladding, plasterboard etc.
Do not attach to surfaces which are damp, freshly painted or otherwise electrically conductive (e.g. metallic surfaces).
When making connections ensure that the terminals are tightened securely and that no strands of wire protrude. Check that the terminals are tightened onto the bared conductors and not onto any insulation.
This product must be connected to earth termination.
You are advised at every stage of your installation to double-check any electrical connections you have made. After you have completed your installation there are electrical tests that should be carried out, these tests are specied in the current IEE wiring and building regulations.
NOTE: Very frequent switching can shorten the life of the lamp. If lighting controls are used with this product (e.g PIR or mircowave sensor) then to minimise this, it is recommended to adjust the time to the maximum setting.
EVENTUALLY, YOU MAY WANT TO REPLACE THIS PRODUCT:

THIS INSTRUCTION LEAFLET SHOULD BE READ IN CONJUNC TION WITH THE USER INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE FITTING INTO WHICH YOU ARE INSTALLING THE GEAR TRAY
This emergency control gear must be installed by a competent person.
This emergency control gear has been designed for installation into the Eterna range of circular bulkhead light ttings (code CF28CR/MS/ WH) which has been designed specically to allow conversion for emergency use.
This emergency control gear may be incorporated into any other tting that has been designed for emergency use, providing that the tting is suciently large to allow circulation of air inside and correct dissipation of any build up of heat. For protection against possible electric shock, it must be xed so that it is not possible to touch any live par t (including the terminals) when opening the tting to change the lamp. Use of this gear inside any tting other than that for which it was specically designed (see model reference above) may invalidate any warranty given at the time of purchase.
As the buyer, installer and/or user of this product it is your own responsibility to ensure that this ballast is t for the purpose for which you have intended it. Eterna Lighting cannot accept any liability for loss, damage or premature failure resulting from inappropriate use.
This product is designed and constructed according to the principles of the appropriate British Standards and is intended for normal service. Use of this ballast in any other environment where higher than normal ambient temperatures are likely may result in a foreshortened working life – for example lighting public or shared spaces or in nursing / care home facilities. If the product is controlled with a PIR this can also shor ten the lifetime of the ballast and the lamp.
Disconnec t the tting from the electrical supply before ash or high voltage testing.
This product is designed for permanent installation in a light tting which should be connected to a dedicated constant live supply for battery charging and switched live supply for operation of the lamp. This circuit should be protected with a 5 or 6 Amp MCB or fuse.
When making connections, ensure that the terminals clamp the stripped conductors securely and that no strands of wire protrude. Check that the terminals are tightened onto the bared conductors and not onto any insulation.
This product must be connected to Earth.
You are advised at every stage of your installation to double-check any electrical connections you have made.
NOTE: Very frequent switching can shorten the life of the lamp. If lighting controls are used with this product (e.g PIR or mircowave sensor) then to minimise this, it is recommended to adjust the time to the maximum setting.
The lamps (bulbs/tubes) & batteries supplied with this tting are consumable parts and therefore may be outside of any warranty oered.
INSTALLATION:
Insert loose battery wire into the ballast. (See Fig. 3 opposite).
Fit the gear tray to your light tting according to the instructions supplied with the light tting.

Switch supply
Connections to the ballast/inverter control unit are made as shown in Fig. 3 opposite.
Fit a lamp and reassemble the tting according to the instructions supplied with the tting.
Terminate wires as above and restore the power and switch on. Green LED will indicate healthy charging circuit.
BATTERY REPLACEMENT:
If after routine operation check, the lamp does not remain lit for the three hour period, a new batter y pack may be required.
Switch o the electricity at the mains.
Allow batteries to fully discharge then reconnect to supply and allow to charge for 24 hours.
Test again for 3 hours, if light does not remain lit change the battery pack as follows:
Remove the diuser and trim (Eterna CF28 range).
Loosen the three screws indicated on the gear tray, slide and lif t o.
Unplug the battery lead from the ballast (push t connectors).
Undo the two screws that secure the battery pack in place and remove battery pack from the gear tray.
Write current date on the new battery pack.
Fit new battery pack securing in place using the screws removed from the old pack (or suitable alternatives).
Reconnec t battery pack.
Replace gear tray, slide and secure in position by tightening the three screws.
Replace diuser and the trim (Eterna CF28 range).
Restore power and allow to charge for at least 24 hours.
Perform full operation check and update test record.

OPERATION CHECKS:
Periodic testing should be carried out to ensure emergency lighting is operating correctly. Interruption of the supply, causing the tting to be energised from the battery, should be carried out by the operation of a local keyswitch or other isolation device. During this period all ttings should be examined visually to ensure that they are functioning correctly. At the end of the test period the supply shall be restored and all indicator lamps or devices checked to ensure that the normal supply has been restored.
DA ILY:
Visual inspection of the batter y charge LED.
EACH MONTH:
Isolate the power supply for a period sucient to ensure that each lamp is illuminated. Endorse the test record form supplied.
ONCE EACH YEAR:
Isolate the power supply and check that the light is still illuminated after 3 hours. Endorse the test record form.
Because of the possibility of a failure of the normal lighting supply occurring shortly after a period of testing of the emergency lighting system or during the subsequent recharge period, all full duration tests shall wherever possible be undertaken preceding time of low risk to allow for battery recharge.
NOTE: please keep this instruction booklet and the test record in a safe place. A re ocer or other authorised person may want to see your record of inspection and testing.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
The ballast and control gear must be operated only within the enclosure supplied. The gear must not be operated outside of the enclosure.
The battery charging circuit and DC ballast are separated from the mains by at least basic (single layer) insulation.
When energised by a constant mains supply, the battery will be constantly charged whether or not the lamp is illuminated. On failure of the constant mains supply, the tting will switch automatically using transistorised switching from battery charging to battery discharge powering the lamp whether or not the lamp was illuminated before the power failure. Both the mains and battery supplies incorporate fuse protection: see tting for location and rating.
