UNIVERSAL COIL-ON-PLUG IGNITION
FLEX PROBE KIT
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
The Universal COP Ignition Flex Probe Kit (part number F-00K-104-944) contains a probe which is
designed to be used with most domestic and import coil-on-plug (COP) vehicle ignition systems with
accessible coils. The probe provides easy access for secondary ignition pattern comparisons on coil-on-plug
ignition systems using the MTS 5200 Engine Analyzer.
The kit consists of the following components:

VEHICLE COVERAGE AND ACCURACY
• The flex probe included in this kit provides universal access to most coil-on-plug ignition systems with
accessible coils, even when other ignition leads do not. Although most coil-on-plug systems are
supported by this probe, some ignition systems do not emit a strong enough signal to obtain an adequate
reading for comparison and diagnostics using this probe.
• The Universal Coil-On-Plug Ignition Flex Probe serves as a quick analysis tool for use in the analyzer’s
Secondary Quick Check mode. Ignition voltage measurements made using this probe are primarily used

tester may not represent actual voltage levels in the circuit.
WARNING!
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
• Do not attempt to touch moving or rotating parts with this probe when
the engine is running. Always make sure when using these probes that
it does not come into contact with moving parts.
• Do not route tester cables near moving parts.
• Ignition systems produce high voltages which can cause serious injury
or death when direct contact is made with defective and disassembled
ignition components. To avoid shock from electrical systems while
vehicle is in operation, always inspect ignition components under test
before connecting test equipment.
CONNECTION AND OPERATION
Universal COP Ignition Flex Probe
Use this probe when performing diagnostics on most secondary ignition coil-on-plug systems.
1. Turn on the engine analyzer and select Secondary Quick Check from the tester’s main menu.
2. Connect the circular black connector of the Flex Probe to the SEC IGN input of the analyzer.
3. With the vehicle running, place the tip of the flexible probe as close to the ignition coil as you can to
obtain a signal.
4. When a signal appears on the tester’s screen, adjust the Volts/Div setting for optimum signal viewing.
5. Repeat steps 1-3 to view each cylinder for comparison.
Please note that when comparing measurements of individual cylinders, the probe must always be held at the
same distance and position to the coil for each cylinder being analyzed.
