Instructions

Two sturdy industrial welding transformers designed for AC electrode welding. Most AC electrodes are applicable. The high permitted load of these transformers make them ideal also for gravity welding.

The rear panel of the transformer is provided with a rating plate including serial number and connection data.

The transformer is equipped with crank controlled adjustment of welding current

The 400 A and 630 A are available with phase compensation which results in reduced primary current, often permitting the use of smaller fuse and reduced cable diameters. Capacitors may, according to local power factors exceeding a specific rating.

Installation

The following voltage types are available

220V 50 Hz, 380V 50 Hz, 415V 50 Hz, 500V 50 Hz, 220V 60 Hz, 380V 60 Hz and 440V 60 Hz.

The rating plate on the rear panel clearly shows the voltages and frequencies of your particular transformer.

The following variants with reversible voltage are available: - 220/380/415/500V 50 Hz

- 220/380/440V, 60 Hz

It is a single-phase welding transformer, to be connected across two input phases. The mains cable is connected to the circuit-breaker. The primary terminal is reconnectable for different input voltages. The connection drawings on page 10 and on the inside of the transformer's side panel (front view) show the different voltage connection procedures.

  • 1. Remove the crank, the casing and the side panel.
  • 2. Insert the mains cable into the lead-in and connect the cable to the circuit-breaker inside the front panel.
  • 3. Tighten the cable clip at the lead-in.
  • 4. Make sure that terminal K30 is wired for correct voltage (see connection diagram page 16).
  • 5. Recommended cable areas and fuse ratings are listed on this page.
  • 6. Connect the transformer across two input phases and ground connection according to regulations.

Operation

  • 1. Connect the welding and return cable to the sockets at the bottom of the front panel.
  • Turn the circuit switch to "I" thereby connecting the transformer to the mains – the white telltale lamp lights up.
  • 3. Make sure that the air inlets are not blocked.
  • Adjust desired welding current setting with the crank on too of the transformer.

Electrodes

We offer a wide selection of AC electrodes.

Your local representative will always be happy to help solve your welding problems and provide you with pertinent information for ex. the proper electrodes.

Technical description

The main component is the transformer, which has a movable leakage core. By varying the magnetic field by means of this leakage core, adjustment of welding current is stepless. The leakage core in the crankcontrolled transformer is manipulated by means of a crank on top of it.

The transformers are self-cooled, i.e. they are not equipped with a fan, which would suck in polluted air into the machine or increase the noise level in the workshop.

Solid rubber wheels and a sturdy handle make the transformers easy to move. Two lifting eyes on top of the transformer facilitate transport by lifttruck or crane.

The impact resistant casing of the welding transformers is made of heavy duty steel plate.

The transformers comply with standards and specifications according to ISO R700, VDE 0541, NF A85-011 and SEN 8301 spec.

Maintenance and service

The transformers require a minimum of maintenance. Under normal conditions, it is sufficient to blow the transformers clean with dry compressed air with reduced pressure once a year. If used in dusty and dirty areas, they must be cleaned more often.

Remove the top and side panels.

  • 1. Blow the inside of the transformer clean with dry compressed air.
  • 2. Wipe the leakage core guides clean.
  • 3. Wash the core screw in kerosene.
  • 4. Clean the bushes around the core screw in the yoke.
  • 5. Lubricate the guides, core screw and bushes with a heat resistant lubricant, preferably Molykote FB 180.

Note! Move the transformer only by means of the eyelets when cover and side panels have been removed.

Ordering spare parts

Spare parts for the transformer can be ordered from your local representative. These representatives are listed on the back of this manual. To ensure delivery of correct parts for your welding transformer, it is important that your order specifies the type, 50 or 60 Hz and serial number as well as designation and order numer of the spare part required according to the spare parts list. This will speed up the handling of your order as well as assure correct delivery.
