Benefits
Highest feed force for less downtime. High productivity from reliable feeding. No wire surface scrubbing by powered pressure rolls.
Feed Roll Design
ESAB feed rolls for solid Mig wires use a unique wedge-designed ground "V" to ensure reliable wire feeding. This special Vee is designed to wedge the wire into the feed roll, providing a high contact AREA on either side of the wire. The specific angle selected depends on wire size, varying between 17 and 30 deg.

Pressure Roll Function
Pressure Roll Function
The pressure in the ESAB feed system is designed to produce the "wedging" force. Because if the varying distances from the pressure/feed roll centers and the wire surfaces...by design...THEY MUST MOVE AT A SLIGHTL Y DIFFERENT RPM. For this reason, they cannot be geared together. With the high contact area wedge design, a driven pressure roll would scrub on the wire surface causing wear and debris.
Since the pressure roll's purpose is to provide downward force to create high contact areas in the feed roll, it does not require being driven.
Benefits of the Wedge
High contact area wedge design means higher feed forces - especially for .035 and .045 diameter solid wires. Our EH-10 feeders use a 2" diameter feed roll - the largest in the industry. Combine a 2" diameter with a wedge "V" designed feed roll and you have the highest feed force obtainable. HIGHER FEED FORCES MEAN LESS DOWNTIME, LESS MAINTENANCE OF FEEDING SYSTEMS. HIGHER PRODUCTIVITY will often result when using the wedge feed roll system.
You can expect total systems designs from ESAB - we design, manufacture and market superior water and air cooled torches, feeders and feed roll designs to fit your needs, and Hi Dep wire to assure troublefree feeding.
