I. INTRODUCTION
This enclosure kit is an optional accessory which can be used to cover 12-inch spools of welding wire where operating conditions require cleanliness of wire from dust, grease, etc. and shock protection from accidental contact with the wire spool. The kit is designed for use on all wire feeding equipment that utilizes "high strength" spindle assembly, P/N 948259. In order to use this kit with equipment equipped with other spindle designs, you must order a new spindle (P/N 948259) as an accessory to this kit.
II. INST ALLATION
A. The Spool Enclosure Kit P/N 600240 consists of
the following parts:
1- P/N 948244 Adjusting Screw 1- P/N 48N91 Base Plate 1- P/N 948245 Spindle Spacer 4- P/N 61341 11 5 Cap Screw 5/16-in. —
18 x 1-1/2-in. Lg. 4- P/N 63300121 Hex Nut 5/16-in.—18 4- P/N 643021 10 Lock Washer 5/16-in. 1-P/N 995935 Dust Cover Assy .
B. To assemble the kit to the wire feeding equip-
ment, refer to Installation Illustration and do the following:
1. Detach the spindle assembly removing the four (4) screws that secure it to wire feeder frame (these screws may be discarded).
2. Carefully disassemble the spindle assembly by removing the existing brake adjusting screw located in the center of the spindle
hub. Several parts, e.g., spring, brake pad or washer will become loose and may drop out--please note their location(s) for reassembly in step 3.
3. Reassemble the spindle assembly using the new adjusting screw, provided in the kit, in place of the old screw removed in step 2. Make sure that all "loose" components for braking requirements are correctly replaced when securing the adjusting screw.
4. Remount the modified spindle assembly, the spindle spacer and the base plate to the wire feeder frame using the new hardware (4 each - 5/16-in. screws, lockwasher and nuts) supplied.
5. Install wire spool as described in your equipment manual.
6. Install the plastic dust cover . The cross-pin on the adjusting screw fits through the keyway of the dust cover knob. Depress the spring-loaded knob, turn 90 degrees, and then release knob so that cross-pin rests in the shallow recess of knob to lock dust cover in place. The large slot in the plastic shroud of the dust cover should be positioned to allow a minimum of interference when drawing wire off the spool.
7. To adjust the spindle brake, simply turn the dust cover knob to loosen or tighten the breaking action applied to the wire spool spindle.
