SUMMARY:
Sometimes it is necessary to readjust the counterbalance spring tension for the boom arm if a different feeder or additional equipment is added to the boom arm.
OPERATIONAL IMPACT:
Improved boom balance for easier movement and positioning.
ACTION:
CAUTION !!!!!!!
The boom arm is under extreme spring tension. Care MUST be exercised during maintenance
and adjustments. Follow directions very closely.
1. Tie down the boom arm so that it cannot rise unexpectedly.
2. Mount the new feeder assembly (including Mig gun) onto boom arm.
3. Loosen the friction plate pivot and drag screws and allow the boom arm to “slowly” rise to its maximum height. This will minimize the load on the tension spring.
4. Unbolt the lower portion of the spring cover assembly exposing the bottom portion of the tension spring.
5. Release the 1-1/8” jam nut holding the spring plate and release spring tension to compensate for lighter boom arm loads or increase spring tension for heavier boom arm loads checking the arm periodically for the desired balance. Fine tune balance using the pivot and drag screws.
6. Securely tighten jam nut and replace tension spring cover.
