3 INTRODUCTION
A10--MEK 44C is a four--wheel drive wire feed unit with double motors intended for MIG/MAG welding where the wire is projected in accordance with Esab’s A10 system. The unit has space for a wire reel with a diameter of up to 440 mm.
For a wire feed unit to be complete it must be equipped either with a turnable, counterbalance device or a carriage. A turnable or counterbalance device allow the wire feed unit to be mounted on a pivot on the power source. A carriage allows the wire feed unit to be moved easily over the floor or work table.
A wire feed unit and turnable or carriage can also be fitted with a support device and suspended over the work place.
All the settings are controlled by the PUA1 setting box.

5 INSTALLATION
The in stallatio n must be executed by a p rofessional.
WARNING!
This product is intended for industrial use. In a domestic environment this product may cause radio interference. It is the user’s responsibility to take adequate precautions.
5.1 Termination resistance
The termination resistance must be connected to the ends of the CAN bus to prevent communication problems. The controller has a built--in terminator, but the power source and wire feed unit do not.
The terminator should be fitted as follows depending on how the units are connected:
1. Controller connected to wire feed unit.
The termination resistance must be connected to the rear of the power source. (Already connected this way on delivery).

2. Controller connected to power source. The termination resistance
must be connected to the front of the wire feed unit.
6 OPERATION
General safety regulations for the handling of the equipment can be found on page 28. Read through before you start using the equipment!
WARNING!
Rotating parts can cause injury, take great care.
WARNING!
To prevent the reel sliding off the hub: Lock the reel in place by turning the red knob as shown on the warning label attached next to the hub.
Setting the wire feed pressure
Start by making sure that the wire moves smoothly through the wire guide. Then set the pressure of the wire feeder’s pressure rollers. It is important that the pressure is not too great.
Fig 1 Fig 2
To check that the feed pressure is set correctly, you can feed out the wire against an insolated object, e.g. a piece of wood.
When you hold the pistol approx. 5 mm from the piece of wood (fig. 1) the feed rollers should slip.
If you hold the pistol approx. 50 mm from the piece of wood, the wire should be fed out and bend (fig. 2).

7 MAINTENANCE
Note:
All warranty undertakings given by the supplier cease to apply if the customer attempts to rectify any faults on the machine during the warranty period.
7.1 Inspection and cleaning
Regularly maintenance is important for reliable and safe operations.
S Cleaning and replacement of the wire feed mechanism’s wear parts should take
place periodically to ensure trouble free wire feed. Note that an excessive pressure setting can result in abnormal wear on the pressure roller, feed roller and wire liner.
S Torch
Regularly blow the wire liner and clean the gas shroud.

The brake hub
The hub is adjusted when delivered, if readjustment is required, follow the instructions below. Adjust the brake hub so that wire is slightly slack when wire feed stops.
S Adjusting the braking torque:
S Turn the red handle to the locked position. S Insert a screwdriver into the springs in the hub.
Turn the springs clockwise to r educe the braking torque Turn the springs anticlockwise to increase the braking torque. NB: Turn both
springs through the same amount.
8 ORDERING SPARE PARTS
MEK 44C is designed and tested in accordance with the international an European standards IEC/EN 60974--1 and EN 50199. It is the obligation of the service unit which has carried out the service or repair work to make sure that the product still conforms to the said standard.
Spare parts are ordered through your nearest ESAB representative, see back cover. When ordering spare parts, please state machine type and number as well as designation and spare part number as shown in the spare parts list. This will simplify dispatch and ensure you get the right part.
9 ACCESSOIRES
See Spare part list.
Turntab l e
At the base of the turntable is a tube which can be fitted over a vertical pivot. The turntable is delivered with an insulated pivot which can be fitted in a hole on top of the power source, allowing the wire feed unit to be swung around as far as the gas bottle.
Suspension device
The suspension device is intended to allow the wire feed unit to be hung above the work place.
WARNING -- TIPPING RISK!
Fasten the equipment -- particularly if the ground is uneven or sloping.
