3 INTRODUCTION
MEK 20C is a portable wire feed unit with four--roller drive, designed for MIG/MAG welding in conjunction with Esab’s A10 wire feed system. The wir e feed unit can accommodate a 200 mm diameter wire reel.
The wire feed unit is mounted on an insulated protective frame equipped with runners.
The wire feed unit is controlled from the PUA1 controller, see additional information under Operation.

5 INSTALLATION
The in stallatio n must be executed by a p rofessional.
WARNING!
This product is intended for industrial use. In a domestic environment this product may cause radio interference. It is the user’s responsibility to take adequate precautions.
5.1 Termination resistance
The termination resistance must be connected to the ends of the CAN bus to prevent communication problems. The controller has a built--in terminator, but the power source and wire feed unit do not.
The terminator should be fitted as follows depending on how the units are connected:
1. Controller connected to wire feed unit.
The termination resistance must be connected to the rear of the power source. (Already connected this way on delivery).
2. Controller connected to power source.

6 OPERATION
General safety regulations for the handling of the equipment can be found on page 28. Read through before you start using the equipment!
WARNING!
Rotating parts can cause injury, take great care.
WARNING!
To prevent the reel sliding off the hub: Lock the reel in place by turning the red knob as shown on the warning label attached next to the hub.
Setting the wire feed pressure
Start by making sure that the wire moves smoothly through the wire guide. Then set the pressure of the wire feeder’s pressure rollers. It is important that the pressure is not too great.
Fig 1 Fig 2
To check that the feed pressure is set correctly, you can feed out the wire against an insolated object, e.g. a piece of wood.
When you hold the pistol approx. 5 mm from the piece of wood (fig. 1) the feed rollers should slip.
If you hold the pistol approx. 50 mm from the piece of wood, the wire should be fed out and bend (fig. 2).
The wire feed speed and voltag e
The wire feed speed and voltage can be adjusted using the PUA1 controller in set and measure modes. If you want to use the potentiometers on the front of the wire feed unit then the toggle switch inside the wire feed unit must be in the upper position and the PUA1 controller should be set for remote operation.

Remote control
To use a remote control, the toggle switch inside the wire feed unit must be switched to remote, and the PUA1 controller must also be set to remote, as above. If you want to change the wire feed and voltage parameters using the controller, you must switch from “remote“ to measure mode or set mode.

7 MAINTENANCE
Note:
All warranty undertakings given by the supplier cease to apply if the customer attempts to rectify any faults on the machine during the warranty period.
7.1 Inspection and cleaning
Regularly maintenance is important for reliable and safe operations.
S Cleaning and replacement of the wire feed mechanism’s wear parts should take
place periodically to ensure trouble free wire feed.
S Note that an excessive pressure setting can result in abnormal wear on the
pressure roller, feed roller and wire liner
The brake hub
The hub is adjusted when delivered, if readjustment is required, follow the instructions below. Adjust the brake hub so that wire is slightly slack when wire feed stops.
S Adjusting the braking torque:
S Turn the red handle to the locked position. S Insert a screwdriver into the springs in the hub.
Turn the springs clockwise to r educe the braking torque Turn the springs anticlockwise to increase the braking torque. NB: Turn both
springs through the same amount.
8 ORDERING OF SPARE PARTS
Spare parts are ordered through your nearest ESAB representative, see back cover. When ordering spare parts, please state machine type and number as well as designation and spare part number as shown in the spare parts list. This will simplify dispatch and ensure you get the right part.
