INSTRUCTIONS for
IGBT MODULE
FIELD REPLACEMENT KIT

1. PURPOSE
To insure the proper and consistent installation of IGBT modules when it is necessary to replace an IGBT module.
2. SCOPE
This document is applicable to the replacement for all IGBT modules that use thermal pads or heat sink compound between the module and the heat sink.

E. Remove the mounting screws that attach the
IGBT module to the heat sink. Note the proper orientation of the module for later re­placement.
F. Clean the mounting area of the heat sink. It
must be free from residual thermal pad ma­terial or heat sink compound and must be free from scratches and surface distortions.

4. REMOVAL OF IGBT MODULE
A. Insure that input power is removed from the
power source by two actions such as a dis­connect switch and the removal of fuses.
B. Remove covers to gain access to the IGBT
modules.
C. Remove the emitter and collector leads from
the IGBT and mark them for later replace­ment.
D. Remove the gate screws or driver board as-
sembly. ESD reduction procedures should be followed during this step.

A. Apply an even coating of heat sink compound
to the replacement IGBT module and heat sink. Place the properly oriented IGBT onto the heat sink. Mount the IGBT with its mount­ing hardware. Torque the mounting screws down evenly to the specifications in Table 1.
B. Install the gate screws or IGBT driver board.
Use ESD reduction techniques for this step.
C. Install the emitter and collector leads.
D. Insure that all connections have been prop-
erly tightened.
E. Replace all covers.
