SAVE THIS MANUAL

instructions for MONOGRAM Series Dual Desk Charger.
2. Before using the battery charger , read all instructions and cautionary markings on (1) the battery charger, (2) the battery, and (3) the product using the battery.

CAUTION
- To reduce the risk of injury , charge only Ericsson battery packs. Charging any other battery pack or batteries may cause the battery to burs t and cause per so na l in jury or damage .
4. Do not expose charger to rain or snow.
5. Do not use auxiliary equipment not recommended or sold by the manufacturer. To do so may result in a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
6 To reduce risk of damage to electric plug and cord, pull by the plug
rather than the cord when disconnecting the charger.
7. Make sure the cord is located so that it will not be stepped on, tripped over, or otherwise subjected to damage or stress.
8. An ext ension co rd should not be u sed unle ss absolut ely nece ssary. Use of an improper extension cord could result in a risk of fire and electric shock. If an extension cord must be used, make sure:
a. That pins on the plug of the extension cord are the same number,
size, and shape as those on the charger’s plug;

b. That the extension cord is properly wired and in good condition;
and
c. That the wire s ize is large enou gh for the AC ampe re ratin g of
the charg er a s spe cif ie d in Table 1.

10. Do not operate charger if it has received a sharp blow, been dropped, or otherwise damaged in any way; return it to a qualified service shop.
11. Do not disassemble the charger; return it to a qualified service shop whcn service or repair is required. Incorrect reassembly may result in a risk of electrical shock or fire.

13. GROUNDI NG AND A C POWER CORD CO NNECTIO N -To reduce the risk of ele ctri cal shoc k us e onl y a p rop erly g rou nded ou tlet . The charger is equipped with an electric cord having an equipment­grounding cond uct or an d a grou ndin g plug . Be sure that the out let is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordin a n ces.

- Never alter the A C cord or plug. If it will not fit in the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. Improper connection can resu lt i n risk of an el ect ric sho c k.

A tempor ary adapter, which looks like the adapter illustrated in sketches B and C, may be used to con nec t th is pl ug t o a two -po le r e cep ta c le as sh own i n sket c h B if a pr operly g rounde d outl et is n ot a vai lable . The tempor ary adapte r should be u sed only until a properly gr ounded outlet can be install ed by a qualified electrician.

DANGER
- Before using an adapter as illustrated, be cer tain the center s crew of the outlet pl ate is grounded . The green-colo r rigid ear or lug extending from the adapter must be connected to a properly grounded outlet--make certain it is grounded. If necessary, replace the outlet cover plate screw with a longer screw that will secure adapter ear or lug to outlet plate and make ground connection to grounded outlet.
17. Care should be taken when placing the charger in service to insure proper top and bottom ventilation. A minimum of 1/4" is required between the bottom of the charger and the surface on which it sits.

Due to th e temperatu re charact eristic s of nickel-cadmium bat teries, the batteri es will not accept a full charge at te mperature e xtremes. F or maximum cap acity, recharge the bat tery pack at a room temper ature of 65° to 85° Fahrenheit, whenever possible.

DESCRIPTION
The Dual Desk Charger is designed to charge Ericsson Monogram Series
®
LTR The rear slot is used for fast charging of a portable radio with battery or
independent charging of a battery. This slot charges the batter y in 1 to 2 hours.
LTR is a tradename of E.F. Johnson
Portable radio battery packs.

The front s lot is used for slow cha rging of a por table radio wit h battery or independent charging of a batter y. This slot charges the battery in 14 to 20 hours.

INSTALLATION
Locate the Du al Desk Charger on a desk or other flat surf ace near a 120 /230 VAC 50/60 Hz source. Connect the power cable to a co nvenient 120/ 230 VA C ou tlet.
NOTES
Refer to Dual Desk Charg er Main tenance Manual if it is neces sar y to replace printed wiring boards, components, or assemblies.

INDICATORS
1. Rear Cha r ge Sl ot : For fast c h argin g o f a Mo no gram Se ries radio w it h battery or independent charging of batteries. Polarity of battery in charger must be correct, or no charging will occur.
2. Front Charge Slot: For slow charging of Monogram Series radio with battery or independent charging of batteries. Polarity of battery in charger must be correct, or no charging will occur.
3. F AST LED: Flashes when radio or battery is inserted into Rear Charge Slot.
4. SLO W LED: (in Front Charge Slot) il lumin ates when radio or ba ttery is inserted. SLOW LED: (in Rear Charge Slot) will illuminate when fast charge is complete, or fully charged battery is inserted.
5. Power LED: Indicates AC power is supplied to charger.

CHARGER OPERATION
Rear Charg e Slot : Inser t battery or radio with ba ttery into th e Rear Ch arge Slot, observ ing correc t polarit y. The FA ST LED wi ll begin to flas h and fast charge be gins a ccord ing t o the amou nt of charge in t he b atte ry. ( ln the case of a fully discharged battery, the initial charge is executed during the first minute. Th e FAST and S LOW LED’s will not be illumin ated. After the initia l charge, the battery mode will change to fast charge.)
ln the fast charge mode, the BKB 191 204/1 or BKB 191 204/2 batter y will take approximately 1 hour to fully charge.
If the initial charge on the battery is over 95%, then the fast charge mode will turn to a "trickle-charge" mode. ln the "trickle-charge" mode, the battery will be maintai ned at full char ge, provid ed the radio is t urned off. The SLOW LED is turned on continuously, and may tur n off momentarily every 34 seconds by the "trickle-charging" current. If the battery is charged to 100% of its capacity, the FAST LED will turn off and the SLOW LED wiIl turn on.
F ront Cha rge Slot: Insert battery or rad io with ba ttery into F ron t Charge Slot, observing correct polarity . The SL OW LED will be illuminated, and a cha rging current of a ppr o xim atel y 50 mA is pr o vided to th e bat tery. In the slo w cha rge mode, th e BKB 191 2 04/1 or BKB 191 204/ 2 bat tery will t ak e a pproximately 14 hours to fully charge.
NO T E
On occasion when charging a new battery or a batter y which has been out of use for a few months, the charger will prematurely switch to the tric kl e char ge before the batt ery has been ful ly charg ed. If this happens, allow the battery to continue trickle-charging overnight. Then remove and reinser t the battery and observe that the battery goes thro ug h a no rmal r a pi d cha r ge before puttin g it int o service .

MONOGRAM SERIES W ARRANTY
A. Ericsson Inc. (hereinafter "Seller") warrants to the original purchaser for use (hereinafter "Buyer") that
Equipment manufactured by Seller shall be free from defects in material, workmanship and title, and shall conform to its published specifications. With respect to any Equipment not manufactured by Seller (except for integral pa rts o f S elle r’s Equi p m en t to w hich the wa rranties se t forth a bove sh all apply). S elle r gi ves no warranty, and only the warranty, if any, given by the manufacturer shall apply. Batteries are excluded from this warranty but are warranted under a separate Nickel-Cadmium Battery Warranty.
B. Seller’s obligations set forth in Paragraph C below shall apply only to failures to meet the above warranties
(except as to title) oc curring within the following periods of time from date of sale to the Buyer and are conditioned on Buyer’s giving written notice to Seller within thirty (30) days of such occurrence:
1. for fuses, incandescent lamps, vacuum tubes and non-rechargeable batteries, operable on arrival
only.
2. for parts and accessories (except as noted in B.1) sold by Seller’s Service Parts Operation, ninety
(90) days.
3. for all other Equipment of Seller’s manufacture, one (1) year.
C. If any Eq uipmen t fails to meet t he foregoing warranties, Seller shall c orrect th e failure at its optio n (i) by
repairi ng an y de f ect iv e o r dama ged p art or parts the re of , or ( ii) b y maki ng av a il ab le at Se ller ’s facto ry any necessary repaired or replacement parts. Any repaired or replacement part furnished thereunder shall be warranted for the remainder of the warranty period of the Equipment in which it is installed. Where such failure cannot be corrected by Seller’s reasonable efforts, the parties will negotiate an equitable adjustment in price. Labor to perform warranty service will be provided at no change only for the Equipment covered under Paragraph B.3, and on ly dur ing the firs t three (3 ) month s following the da te of sale to the B uyer. Thereafter, labor will be charged at prevailing rates. To be eligible for no-charge labor, ser vice must be perform ed by an Auth or iz e d Service Ce nt er o r ot he r Ser v ic es approved for the s e pu rpos es either at its place of business during normal busi ness hours, for mobil e or personal equi pment, or at the B uyer’s locati on, fo r fix ed loca tion equ ipment. S ervice on fi xed locati on equip ment more than thi rty (30) miles fr om the Service Center or other approved Service’s place of business will include a charge for transportation. Equipment located off-shore is not eligible for no-charge labor.
D. Seller’s obligatio ns und er Paragraph C shall not ap ply to any Equipm ent, o r par t ther eof, which (i) has
been modified or otherwise altered other than pursuant to Seller’s written instructions or written approval or, (ii) is normally consumed in operation or, (iii) has a nor mal life inherently s horte r than the warranty periods specified in Paragraph B, or (iv) is not properly stored, installed, used, maintained or repaired, or, (v) has been subjected to any other kind of misuse or detrimental exposure, or has been involved in an accident.
E. Th e preceding paragraphs s et forth the exclusive reme dies for claim s (except as to title) base d upon
defects in or nonconformity of the Equipment, whether the claim is in contract, warranty, tort (including negligence), strict liability or otherwise, and however instituted. Upon the e xpiration of the warranty period, all such liability shall terminate. The f oregoing warranties are exclusive and in lieu of all other warranties, whethe r o r al , writ ten, expres se d, i mpl i e d o r s ta tutory . NO IMPLIED OR S TATUTORY WARR A NTIE S O F MERCHANT ABILITY OR FITNESS FOR P ARTICULAR PURPOSE SHALL APPL Y . IN NO EVENT SHALL THE SELLER BE LIABLE FOR ANY INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, INDIRECT OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES.This warranty applies only within the United States.
